They were just asked to step down from their positions on our Church Council. Pastor George turned in his resignation with a departure date of June 23rd, and Pastor George and the council had discussed the possibility of moving his departure date up to an earlier date—(in fact, it was George’s suggestion at the May council meeting) to help with the financial well-being of this church. The council voted at the June council meeting to make this effective immediately, and Pastor George agreed. The council feels this is in the best interest of St. Paul’s; this will allow George to focus his effort on his new endeavor and allow St. Paul’s to move forward with our process of healing and the re-unification of our members. A number of other committee members and Sunday school teachers have resigned their positions as well. We have already had people step up to fill various committee seats and teaching positions, but we still have a few vacancies to fill. Vacation Bible School will take place July 14-18 with Wilma Zeh coordinating. We welcome anyone from the congregation who feels that they would be willing to help serve in some capacity, and we ask that those individuals please contact a Church Council member. The Church Council would also like to let the congregation know that during this transition period, if there is a need for Pastoral Care (nursing home, funeral, etc.) that Rev. Don Deeker has volunteered to help out in this area. Many thanks to Rev. Deeker. The Council has secured Supply Pastors through August and is continuing with the Interim Pastor search as previously sent out in an informational letter. In fact, the committee has interviewed 3 possible Interim Pastors; however, no decision has been made to date. The search committee is being formed, and further updates will be relayed to the congregation as they become available. Rev. Alan Fluent, UCC Mid-South Missouri Conference Minister, led the worship service on June 29th followed by a question and answer session after the service. The Council would like to thank those who attended.

Church Council News Update

(Most of the following statement was read to the congregation before worship service on June 8, 2014, with a few

additional bits of information that came about since that time. The Council felt that for those who were not in

attendance that day, it should be included in this newsletter as well.)

During the last week of May, it was brought to our attention that 3 members of our council were also serving on the

Leadership Team for the new start up church that Pastor George is forming. In light of this new information, some

members felt that this was a conflict of interest and that these council members could not have the best interest of St.

Paul’s UCC church at heart. As a result, Pastor George was asked to move up his resignation date, effective

immediately and the council members in conflict of interest were asked to resign their council positions as well. Pastor

George was paid through his original departure date of June 23rd.

The council wants to make it clear that neither Pastor George, any council member, nor any members of the

congregation were asked to leave St. Paul’s. They were just asked to step down from their positions on our Church

Council. Pastor George turned in his resignation with a departure date of June 23rd, and Pastor George and the council

had discussed the possibility of moving his departure date up to an earlier date—(in fact, it was George’s suggestion at

the May council meeting) to help with the financial well-being of this church. The council voted at the June council

meeting to make this effective immediately, and Pastor George agreed. The council feels this is in the best interest of

St. Paul’s; this will allow George to focus his effort on his new endeavor and allow St. Paul’s to move forward with our

process of healing and the re-unification of our members.

Since then, two other council members have resigned, and the council has appointed 5 people to fill the unexpired

terms of those council members who stepped down—David Lange as President, Wade Swartz as Vice President, and

Teri Ogle, Kay Buhr, and Nick Rohe as members at large.

A number of other committee members and Sunday school teachers have resigned their positions as well. We have

already had people step up to fill various committee seats and teaching positions, but we still have a few vacancies to

fill. Vacation Bible School will take place July 14-18 with Wilma Zeh coordinating. We welcome anyone from the

congregation who feels that they would be willing to help serve in some capacity, and we ask that those individuals

please contact a Church Council member.

The Church Council would also like to let the congregation know that during this transition period, if there is a need for

Pastoral Care – (nursing home, funeral, etc.) that Rev. Don Deeker has volunteered to help out in this area. Many

thanks to Rev. Deeker.

The Council has secured Supply Pastors through August and is continuing with the Interim Pastor search as previously

sent out in an informational letter. In fact, the committee has interviewed 3 possible Interim Pastors; however, no

decision has been made to date. The search committee is being formed, and further updates will be relayed to the

congregation as they become available.

Rev. Alan Fluent, UCC Mid-South Missouri Conference Minister, led the worship service on June 29th followed by a

question and answer session after the service. The Council would like to thank those who attended.

In moving forward, St. Paul’s Church Council would like to thank Pastor George Dohm for his service and wish him

well in his new endeavors. We would also like to thank Aaron Griesheimer, Larry Brewe, Brad Kazmaier, Jason

Collier, and Steve O’Black for serving on the Council as well as many other committee members and helpers for their

service to St. Paul’s. The doors of St. Paul’s are always open and all of God’s children are welcome to come and

worship here.

We thank those who have stepped forward to fill Church Council, committee, and/or teaching positions. During this

transition period, the Council asks for your patience and to keep the Church Council and St. Paul’s church in your

prayers as we move forward. As a congregation, this is your church and the Council is always open to suggestions. St.

Paul’s has been here for 150 years and has a good cornerstone and foundation to continue to build and grow on.

God Bless,

St. Paul’s UCC Church Council

Extra Step for July: Emmaus Home--Marthasville Throughout its 119 year history, many former and current members have spent their careers working to serve the folks that call Emmaus “home”. We have also partnered (financially and with volunteering) to provide residential services and supports to persons with developmental disabilities. Residents usually come to Emmaus to live when they no longer have family or for many reasons the family can no longer care for them. Today, Emmaus serves over 240 adults on two campuses. Most residents receive 24 hour support with their various needs. With your help, Emmaus will continue to be able to provide loving and compassionate care. Visit them on the web: www.emmaushomes.org

Youth News

Wednesdays-Youth will continue to meet on Wednesdays throughout the summer. Don’t forget, we

have moved locations—we are now meeting at the Young Life building (203 Jefferson Street) located

on the corner of 2nd and Jefferson Street. We will continue to discuss the book of Timothy and The

Gospel Journey Maui.

Be sure to check the Teen Adventures Facebook page and church calendar for extra summer events.

(Swim parties on Friday, Youth Sunday and other special events).

Sights and Sounds Theatre featuring Jonah- 20 youth and leaders attended. What an amazing show.

Jonah was asked by God to go to the town of Ninevah and preach against it because of its wickedness.

Jonah ran away because he felt it was hopeless. While running away, others were affected by his

disobedience to the Lord. Jonah turned away from his disobedience and surrendered to the Lord. As a

result, the town of Ninevah was spared. They saw their sin and repented. God spared their lives. Jonah

was shocked as he felt they were too far gone and had not practiced the Lords ways. The Lord showed

Jonah through the miracle of a tree leaf that the town of Ninevah meant as much to him as he did.

Youth discussed who their Ninevites were and how would they respond if the Lord asked them to share

His truths with a person who had turned away from God and worshipped other idols. All agreed they

could relate to all the characters in the story of Jonah, including the Ninevites. The youth and leaders

enjoyed lunch at Lambert’s Café. This was a first time for all the youth. Thank you for your prayers.

We had a safe trip with much fellowship.

Youth Camp/Mission Trip- Please continue to pray for the youth attending YL Camp in Michigan July

13-21st. Pray for safe travel and pray for God to open their hearts to develop a stronger relationship

with Him. Pray they will continue to share their faith with others who are lost and in need of a personal

relationship with Jesus Christ.
