FROM OUR PASTOR, FATHER VAN LIESHOUT

    Praised be Jesus Christ!

At the start of the new liturgical year this First Sunday of Advent—and still in the shadow of the Thanksgiving holiday—I want to be sure to express my sincere gratitude for all of YOU!

In some ways I feel like a proud father when I think back on the tremendous prayerful and financial support that so many of our parishioners showed during the difficult months of the past year that have allowed us to maintain financial stability (and even growth) in the midst of what could have been very difficult times for our parish.

But as I think you know, I am most proud when I see tangible signs of authentic commitment to our Catholic faith and growth in the spiritual life. There is almost nothing that brings me more joy than when I hear of some parishioner studying the faith more seriously, or deepening one’s prayer life, or returning to the sacraments, or spending time before the Blessed Sacrament, or striving to live out the corporeal and spiritual works of mercy out of love of Christ. And I’ve witnessed all of that even as we still labor under so many struggles and health concerns “within” and ever new and increasing dangers to the faith from “without.”

Especially in this next week, I want to take the time to renew my own commitment to serve this parish as best as I am able and to see how I can do better in the next year. Please pray for me that I can be a better priest, more authentically conformed to the heart of Christ. And of course know of my daily prayers for you all, your families, and your own intentions.

In the hearts of Jesus and Mary,

    Father Peter Van Lieshout

Novena Prayer for the Immaculate Conception (to be prayed daily from November 30th until December 8th)

O Most Blessed Mother, heart of love, heart of mercy, ever listening, caring, consoling, hear our prayer. As your chil-dren, we implore your intercession with Jesus your Son. Receive with understanding and compassion the petitions we place before you today, especially the spiritual protection and growth of St. Peter’s Parish.

We are comforted in knowing your heart is ever open to those who ask for your prayer. We trust to your gentle care and intercession, those whom we love and who are sick or lonely or hurting. Help all of us, Holy Mother, to bear our burdens in this life until we may share eternal life and peace with God forever. Amen.
