Prayer to St. Michael

Saint Michael the Archangel,

defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares

of the devil. May God rebuke him,

we humbly pray; and do You,

O Prince of the Heavenly Host,

by the Power of God, cast into Hell, Satan and

all evil spirits, who roam throughout the

world seeking the ruin of souls.

Amen

Pray to St. Michael for protection against the power of evil, and to bring us closer to God.

Last month I was invited to

attend a seminar on

“Realities of Arab Ameri-

cans”. It was an enlighten-

ing afternoon with guest speakers who

introduced us to the rich cultures that

many Arab nations share. I felt it was

important for me to attend as outreach

director for the St Pio Baby Closet, and

to seek a better understanding of people

that we serve. In just the past six months

165 of the 229 families who have come

to visit our Baby Close have been of

Chaldean, Arabic, Assyrian or Coptic

heritage.

We also learned of the plight of the

asylee and refugees who have come to

America to begin a new life. The vetting

process to come to the U. S. is long and

arduous; it can take several interviews

and years to complete. So many refu-

gees once here are left struggling with

challenges of cultural barriers, post trau-

matic stress disorder, securing housing,

finding jobs, seeking schools for their

children, transportation and all while not

understanding the English language and

battling with racism and discrimination.

I felt very blessed to have been able to

attend this seminar and gain a new

knowledge of the people who are seek-

ing to call the United States, “home”.

Please keep the families that seek help

at St Pio’s in your daily prayers.

Compassion

is a deep awareness of and

sympathy for another’s

suffering.

News From the Christian Service Office

RCIA News

I hope all of you have had a

wonderful, faith-filled sum-

mer. We are very excited to continue our

work of preparing adults to be received

into the Catholic Church.

Our team consists of Sr. Barbara Zim-

mer IHM, Vera Lottholtz and Brigitte

Linzenmann who have been involved

with the program at St. Pio for the last 3

years. Each of them brings their special

talents, love, experiences and dedication

to the process of the RCIA. My name is

Ellen Olivier and I am the director of the

RCIA program. This is my 16th year of

preparing RCIA participants to become

members of the Catholic Church. All of

us on the team feel that each new group

we interact with becomes a family as we

learn about each other, share our faith

experiences and grow in our love and

relationships with Jesus.

We currently have 2 new participants

who are very excited to begin their new

lives in the community of St. Pio of

Pietrelcina. They have been through the

interview process and are anxious to con-

tinue their journey. We are always happy

to accept new participants into the pro-

gram, so if you have been thinking about

becoming a member of the Catholic

Church, please don't hesitate to call me

with any questions you may have.

The program will formally begin on

September 10, but we will be meeting

this month to get to know each other,

where we will meet and what to expect

during the process. Each month I will be

writing articles to update the parish on

our participants and what we are sharing

in our sessions.

Please pray for our participants and

team members as we continue our

journey.

Yours in Christ,

Ellen Olivier
