Life Insurance As a Gift? The initial reaction for many people when you mention life insurance as a gift is a quick step back and a question-ing stare. “How morbid,” they think. While it may seem that way when you first mention it, life insurance is really a thoughtful gift that can be a financial life preserver in tough times.
The problem with life insurance is the general perception. Many think of death instead of the great benefits it provides, and the security that it offers – even while you’re alive.. Life insurance should be thought of as a precau-tionary protective measure for a family unit. The purchase of this product can mean saving your home, sending your children to college, and preserving your spouse’s quality of life in the event of your death.
One of the times you may want to purchase life insurance for someone is when a family has a new baby. It’s a great, low-cost way to set money aside for the future (i.e. college tuition, housing, business start-up, etc.). Of greater importance, it ensures these children will have insurance as adults, in case an illness later in life makes him or her uninsurable.
Newlyweds are also ideal recipients for life insurance. As they join their lives and financial responsibilities, young couples need to make sure that their early investments are fully protected. If something were to happen to one of them, the other may be faced with serious financial hardship. A life insurance policy is an ideal way to ensure their future and protect their assets.
As nontraditional as it may be, life insurance is a wise and caring gift to purchase for many people.

In the Internet world we seem to need passwords for everything. Today, passwords are not enough, we need to also consider applying two-factor authentication in our security thinking as well. Should our passwords be compromised by a cyber attack on a bank or other high value target, two-factor authentication will help protect our account even should they gain access to our password.
Password managers help us to create hard passwords to crack without having to remember them. Additionally, there are secure notes that can be included in the password vault that will help you remember the answers to challenge questions. Many sites require authentication using challenge questions should you need to call their customer service line.
Password managers are designed to launch access to a site and automatically fill in the username and password. I have had issues on some sites where the automatic function does not work, but I just copy and paste the password from the vault after manually typing the username if needed.
The beauty of having a password vault is that you can use extremely secure passwords and not have to remember them. The only password you need to remember is the password for your password manager. That password needs to be a hard password to crack and I highly recommend you use two-factor authentication on the password manager. Two-factor authentication can be through a text on your phone, email, or even a grid (all explained on the password manager site).
One last thing a password manager can provide is emergency access to your passwords in the event of your death. Many of us use the Internet to do our banking, investments, credit card payments, and the list goes on. Providing access to your beneficiary or other trusted family member can make things much easier for those finalizing our estate. Information on emergency access for LastPass is at https://support.logmeininc.com/lastpass/help/set-up-and-manage-emergency-access-lp030013. Emergency access is similar in RoboForm. Emergency access should be a consideration when choosing your password manager.
There are many password managers to choose from. An article that might be helpful to you learning more about the different option each offers is at https://fossbytes.com/best-free-password-manager-software/.
Many have free versions with additional options should you wish to purchase the paid version. I have been using LastPass for years. Before that I used RoboForm. At the time, RoboForm was changing from a free version to paid and I chose to look elsewhere. I have found that the free version has satisfied my needs. I also use it on my phone so I can have access to any of my sites at any time I need it.
You can also periodically print out your passwords from the password manager and store them in a secure place like a safe or safe deposit box at your bank.
Remember, keep your passwords strong, secure and use two-factor authentication whenever you can.
