Brothers,

First, let me thank you for all your prayers and well wishes during my recent absence. It speaks highly of the fraternity and support that emanates from our council in times of need.

I have some laser surgery currently scheduled for January 8th and expect to be somewhat absent for 6-8 weeks. I am sure that with the support we have come to depend on from our council and under the leadership of our DGK Tony Pennisi, my absence will not even be noticed.

A big thank you to Fred Falgiano and all the volunteers at the Special Olympics bowling tournament in mid-November. We had 19 knights, wives and family representing 6 councils and 80 volunteer hours. Let’s all get involved and support Special Olympics.

The night before the BWS, Saturday 12/16 we will be having our Council Christmas Social potluck. Again, we are hoping for a good turnout. More info will be coming in the next several weeks.

In addition to BWS our youth program will be hosting the Council Free Throw Contest on January 6 in the Arizona room. Plan to bring your children and grandchildren. The district Free

Dues Season Approaches

We will begin a new annual dues billing cycle in December. You can be a great help by paying your dues promptly and saving us the expense and effort to send additional notices. If you are having financial difficulties, please let us know.

You may want to consider setting up automatic dues payments. Most banks and credit unions today offer online or electronic bill payment systems. Usually these can be set up to automatically issue a payment on a regular schedule, including annually. Ask your financial institution for help. This service costs you nothing to use, not even postage.

If you choose to do this, have the payment made payable to “K of C Co. 10762” and have it sent to:

Knights of ColumbusSt. Pius X Co. 10762PO Box 17621Tucson, AZ 85731-7621

You can also pay by credit card. Just follow the link on our web site. A small fee is added to cover the cost of the service.

Breakfast with Champions on October 26th was a great event! 30 Knights and family were seated at 3 tables from St Pius including an additional 2 other tables of Knights from 4 other councils attended along with 4 state officers and an honor guard of 5 knights. The Honor Guard escorted in the Air Force as they presented the colors and the Olympic torch. Approximately 50 representatives from the Knights were present.

A Founding Notion: Protecting the Breadwinner’s Income

While jobs may be safer in 2015, accidents, injuries, and illnesses that can impact your ability to work still happen. Most, in fact, do not happen on the jobsite or place of employment. Did you know that a 2011 study revealed that more than 95 percent of the long-term disability claims on file were not work related?

The Knights have always sought to protect members’ families from the “loss” of a breadwinner. I’m sure you know all about Father McGivney’s vision for our insurance program. But you may not know that Father McGivney also wanted to find a way to help members who couldn’t work because of an illness. After all, the “loss” of the breadwin-ner does not have to mean that person’s death; it can also mean the loss of the breadwinner’s income. Consider that loss for a moment. How would your family fare if a source of income suddenly stopped? Could a dual-income family manage on one income stream? What about young families with a working father and a mother who cares for the children? What if his income halted due to an accident or illness?

I’ve heard some people say they have coverage at work, but too many aren’t sure what this coverage entails, how much income it would provide or for how long. Having this protection counts for something, certainly, but it isn’t “yours”; it’s provided by the company for which you work at their discretion. It could be eliminated tomorrow.

That’s where a personally-owned disability income insurance product, like Income Armor, comes into play. It can offer valuable income replacement in the event of an injury or illness.. If you have a job, you must know about this coverage.

KofC Phone AppDid you know there is a Knights of Columbus app for iPhone and Android? It can be a very useful tool when you encounter someone interested in learning more about the K of C. We get asked what are the Knights? What do they do? This app is kind of like the old recruiting flip chart.

Just search for “Knights of Columbus: Join Us” and install in your phone or tablet. Then browse through the content.
