In partnership with Bishop Johnston and the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph Catholic Schools Office, St. Pius X High School Board of Directors today announced its appointment of Joseph Ross, Class of ’89, as the school’s new President. Ross currently serves as President of Custom Truck One Source, a commercial truck and equipment firm headquartered in Kansas City, where he has worked for 26 years. Ross is a known figure in the St. Pius X Community, having recently served as Co-Chair of the Warrior Pride Capital Campaign and on the Building and Grounds Committee.

As President, Ross will be responsible for overseeing the school’s implementation of mission, financial operations, enrollment growth strategies, community relations, and long-range planning, as well as assisting Principal Joe Monachino,

Jr., with his focus on the education and enrichment of all St. Pius X students. He succeeds Fr. Michael Roach, who served as the school’s President and is the current pastor of St. James Catholic School in Liberty, MO.

Ross has a BA in History and Philosophy from Benedictine College, where he recently served on the Transforming Culture in America board. He is a devoted advocate for Catholic education with an extensive volunteer history benefitting local parishes and schools. He and his wife Angela are the dedicated parents of seven children, three of whom have graduated from St. Pius X, with the younger four planning to attend.

“I am looking forward to working alongside Joe Monachino and the St. Pius X teachers, staff, parents and students,” said Ross of his appointment. “I am so thrilled to serve this community and to witness the many blessings that will manifest from our shared passion for Catholic education. I feel called to pass forward the talents and vision I received during my time as a student of this great school, and am committed to making a difference in our city, country and world by continuing the school’s mission of ‘Restoring All Things in Christ’”.

“I am excited for the entire St. Pius X community to welcome Joe Ross as our President,” said Joe Monachino, Jr., Principal of the high school. “We have worked together in our most recent capital improvement projects, and it will be a blessing for our school to have him in the building every day. Joe’s dedication to his family and to our Faith makes him a perfect fit to continue the mission of Catholic Education here at St. Pius X and the Northland.”

I would like to welcome you to St. Pius X High School and another great year of sports and activities. You will find that our people are warm, welcoming and enthusiastic about what is going on here on campus and in the community. We have a wonderful, dedicated staff, which looks forward to putting the absolute best product on the field, court, or stage for your enjoyment.

While we all put a great amount of time and effort into trying to win, we know that winning isn’t the only reason we play. We play to help our students learn the important life lessons that participation in sports and activities provide.

During your time here at St. Pius X be sure to let us know what we can do to make your visit a pleasant one. Remember to cheer responsibly for your favorite team.

Thank you and “Go Warriors”.

Dear St. Pius X Supporters and Visitors,

On behalf of the faculty and staff at St. Pius X High School, let me welcome you to our school and one of our athletic events. This Sports and Activities Program is a wonderful effort on the part of our Warrior Pride Booster Club to give recognition to our student athletes, activity members, their coaches and sponsors. Also, in this program are business ads from our Booster Club members. Please patronize these businesses whenever possible.

Since its beginning in 1956, St. Pius X High School has been proud of its athletic teams and activity programs and we have been fortunate to win many state and local trophies. However, the focus in our athletic department cannot be on just the victories, the banners, and the trophies; it must also be on the instruction of young men and women in the essentials of their sport and in good sportsmanship — all within the context of a Catholic school education.

Good luck to all athletes who are participating and may the Lord watch over each of you.

Thank you for supporting the St. Pius X Warriors!

Joseph Monachino, Jr.Principal

The Lady Warriors are returning from a 17-10 season. The girls took second in the MEC Conference and were Class 3 District 15 Champions. The Lady Warriors fell short in the quarter final game against an undefeated Trenton team who later finished 3rd in Class 3. The St. Pius X Lady Warriors return three starters -- senior Kate Parrish, junior Natalie Rippy, and sophomore Uchenna Anikwe from the 2018-2019 team. Natalie Rippy was named 1st team All-District as well as All-Conference Honorable Mention last season.

The team also has five returning varsity players including seniors Grace Brockman and Lauren Widman; junior Olivia White; and sophomores Adanna Anikwe and Ashley Hall. We have a few newcomers that will add significant depth to our team: juniors Anna Cernich and Alyssa Hall, and freshmen Molly Cernich.

The SPX Wrestling team is looking forward to an exciting season this year. Building off of last years performance with four state qualifiers the team has a young group with lots of talent. Returning senior state qualifiers Eddie Omecene and Nick Voss will lead a younger group onto the mat to do battle this year. With more student athletes coming out this year the team will have less holes in the line-up and be in contention to win more duels. Coming off a 2nd place finish last year at the West Platte Invitational and a 6th place finish at districts with only 5 scoring wrestlers the team is ready to make some noise dropping down to class one. Come out and support the wrestlers at their next home dates February 4th and 6th.

Sarton SingerS and mixed choruS

The SPX Sarton Singers and Mixed Chorus had a wonderful first semester, culminating in the annual Festival of Lessons and Carols where they were joined by many of the area middle school choir students for their final piece, “All on a Silent Night”. The Sarton Singers also braved the snow and sang at both St. James and St. Therese parishes on Sunday, December 15. The new year brings exciting things for the choirs! They have been invited to sing for the Bishop at the World Day of Prayer Mass at the Cathedral. They are also busily preparing for District Contest at the end of March.

The Robotics Warrior Team has had a very exciting season this year. After placing in our first meet, we were able to qualify for the state championship! We will be heading there for the first time in SPX Robotics history! As a team we strive to set an example of gracious professionalism. There are six new members on the team and one amazing senior, Cesar Valderrama, who brings his leadership skills and experience to our newer members. As a Catholic team, we decided that it would be a great idea for us to sponsor a charity. We reached our goal in December and sent a family in a developing country a Water Buffalo to help build sustainable income for the family. The Robotics Team hopes to continue their success this year into next and are so thankful for the awesome community they get to be a part of.

SPX Robotics team took 3rd place and will be advancing to the state championship in March!

Our team this year has done an excellent job. We’ve had at least one varsity team go undefeated at every tournament we’ve competed in. Our novice teams typically finish one and one which is still great considering many of them have not done debate before. We also have a larger team than last year. We’ve placed third overall, fifth overall, and second overall; we’ve been to a lot of tournaments. Our goal for this year is for the students to grow in their public speaking skills and to become more confident debaters. We have many students who have never done debate before so seeing the novice students grow is rewarding. They get better each tournament and I expect them to continue to improve.

They are involved with giving tours to prospective families, organizing and implementing outreach events at the Northland Catholic Schools, and planning events with grade school students at St. Pius X.
