FROM THE PASTOR… Dear Parishioners, For the last week or two, we have been including, in this bulletin, information about the Summer Mission Appeal, which will take place at all parish Masses next weekend. Since there is no special envelope in the parish-support envelope pack for this purpose, please come ready to demonstrate your global solidarity with the Catho-lic Missions in El Salvador in next weekend’s second collection. Our guest speaker at Masses will be Kevin Fox. He first learned of COAR (Community of Oscar Arnulfo Romero, the murdered Archbishop recently beatified by Pope Francis) growing up in Cleveland and while a seminarian for the Diocese of Cleveland. He has travelled to El Salvador and worked in the Diocese’s mission team as part of his formation. He has seen the poverty of El Salvador and the toll it takes on its most vulnerable members, especially children. He has also seen the power and capability of the Church to serve the poor. And he has seen COAR’s work synthesizing the Church’s work to serve, heal and empower vulnerable children. Please welcome Kevin to St. Raphael’s next weekend and help this very deserv-ing cause. As always, many thanks. -Father Jerry Jecewiz

SUMMER MISSION APPEAL - July 18th/19th (second collection) Mission Appeal from COAR, a School and Orphanage in El Salvador COAR, which stands for the Community Oscar Arnulfo Romero, will be making an upcoming mission appeal and asking for your donations, prayers, and interest. COAR is located in Zaragoza, El Salvador. It was founded in 1980 by a Cleveland Diocese Mis-sion Team priest Fr. Ken Myers during El Salvador’s brutal civil war. Fr. Ken and fellow Cleve-land Mission Team members Sr. Dorothy Kazel, OSU, and Jean Donovan (murdered December 2, 1980) began gathering orphans from refugee camps and bringing them back to the Mis-sion’s parish of Zaragoza.
COAR is now known as the “Children’s Village” in El Salvador with 800 day students, 100 in foster care, a medical and dental clinic, pharmacy, trade shops (such as baking and tailoring). It is administered directly by the Archbishop of San Salvador through his Vicariate of Human Development. COAR’s motto is Women and Men for God and Culture: the curriculum educates the entire person. With over 100 employees COAR strengthens the regional economy. One of the first orphans of COAR served as mayor of Zaragoza from 1998 - 2002. COAR buzzes with optimism and vitality.
However, El Salvador remains an impoverished country as are COAR’s students. To protect the most vulnerable simply requires food, shelter, and housemothers. To educate the children to modernize their economy requires updated computers and new classrooms. To get the best teachers and treat them fairly requires wages near the Salvadoran national average. Please help us respond to the needs of the most impoverished among us and help them build a bet-ter future.
REMEMBER: UNTIL AFTER LABOR DAY, THE RECTORY OFFICE CLOSES AT 2:00 PM ON FRIDAYS.

¡Esperamos verlos pronto!
