Baptisms First Sunday of the month after the Noon Mass. Registration and Catechesis are prerequisites. Please contact the Parish Office.

Marriages Contact the Parish Office upon engagement; at least six months is needed for preparation of this joyous sacrament!

Reconciliation and First Eucharist Preparation for children who have attained the age of reason (usually during 2nd grade) is arranged either through the Religious Education Program or St. Rita Elementary School.

Confirmation A two-year program for freshman/sophomore age teens. Please apply through the Youth Ministry Program.

Communion for the Sick and Homebound St. Rita Eucharistic Ministers provide Communion home visits. Contact the Parish Office.

Anointing of the Sick and Funeral Liturgies Please notify us for the Anointing of the Sick, the sacrament intended for the seriously ill or dying which brings Our Lord’s special presence and companionship in serious time of need. If someone should die without anointing, remember that the desire to receive is sufficient.

If your loved one has passed, we will assist in making arrangements with your chosen funeral director; refer you to our Bereavement Ministry and Music Ministry; and offer you helpful guidelines that will aid in the selection of readings for a Mass or Memorial Service. We know this can be a tough time and we want you to know that your parish is here for you. Please understand we only have one resident priest; sometimes arrangements for another priest may be needed.

PASTOR’S CORNER 3

Dear Parishioners and Visitors:

In today’s gospel Jesus refers to himself as a shepherd. The shepherd leads the sheep to verdant pastures, protects them from harm and guides them to waters of life. This is a wonderful image for those who lead the Church and thus, today is appropriately designated as World Day of Prayer for Vocations. All the “shepherds” of the Church, the pope, cardinals, bishops and priests, are to lead the people to restful places, protect them from harm and guide them to the waters of new life. They are to act as “gates” leading the faithful to heaven. Unfortunately, there are not enough priests to do all the work that is needed. On this World Day of Prayer for Vocations let us pray to the Lord to send more workers into the vineyard. Pray for all seminarians. Pray that many men and women will follow the voice of Jesus, the Good Shepherd and that those who serve so faithfully in the Church will continue to know our support. As we continue during the “stay-at home” time don't forget about praying for more vocations to the priesthood, religious life and service in the Church. As we continue along the pathway toward intentional discipleship, let us move toward giving our lives more completely over to Jesus. Please, talk about vocations in your domestic church and with your friends. We need to address the issue and talk about it. We need to invite others to consider a Church vocation. We need to realize the Lord is calling, who is listening? Blessings.

—Fr. Tom

The Good Shepherd

REFLECTION QUESTION

Each week I will include a reflection question based on a chapter from the Matthew Kelly book: “Rediscover the Saints.” Please use this question for reflection and discussion with family, friends and parishioners. St. Mary Mackillop, Australia’s first saint, had the courage to speak the truth and to stand up for the truth. Recall a time when you endured a hardship for speaking the truth. Was the truth spoken in love or critically? What's the difference and how can we be bold and humble at the same time?

4 LITURGY, WORSHIP, AND COMMUNITY

Act of Spiritual Communion

It has long been a Catholic u n d e r s t a n d i n g t h a t w h e n circumstances prevent one from receiving Holy Communion, it is possible to make an Act of Spiritual Communion, which is a source of grace. Spiritual Communion is an ardent desire to receive Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament and lovingly embrace him at a time or in circumstances when one cannot rece ive Him in sacramenta l Communion. The most common reason for making an Act of Spiritual Communion is when a person cannot attend Mass. Acts of Spiritual Communion increase our desire to receive sacramental Communion and help us avoid the sins that would make us unable to receive Holy Communion worthily.

Prayer for Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe you are really here in the blessed sacrament. I love you more than anything in the world, and I hunger to receive you.

But since I cannot receive communion at this moment, feed my soul at least spiritually.

I unite myself to you now as I do when I actually receive you. Amen.

—St. Alphonsus Liguori

Keep these intentions in your heart as you make your spiritual communion

while Mass restrictions are in place.
