Oxford Ecumenical Food Shelf for July

HELP IS NEEDED!

St. Roch Parish is responsible for sending 12-15 adults to the Food Shelf to distribute food on each of the four Thurs-days of July. This is a big commitment especially in July. Please do not sign up unless you really plan to be there on that Thursday. The Food Shelf is located in the Community Center. Please arrive before 5:15 pm. Thanks so much for your help and for your continued support of the needs of the Food Shelf. Sign up sheets are available at the entrances to the church.

During July the Food Shelf will be offering clients packets of cards—get well, birthday, etc., notepads and stickers for children. All these often come unsolicited through the mail. If you can help with this, please place your items in the Food Box at the front of the church. No religious cards, please. Thank you for your donations.

The Church of Saint Roch, Oxford, MA THE TWELVTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME June 25, 2017

My dear Parishioners, Greetings from the campus of Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio. Certainly this is one of the most authentically Catholic institutions of higher learning in the United States. With all that was going on before I left for my annual retreat I was not able to write my weekly letter for the bulletin. So, as I have often said that my parish is very much a part of this yearly experience I now give you some of my reflections as I hear the conference presentations. The theme of our retreat is a verse from St. Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians. “Rekindle the gift of God that is within you… a spirit of power and love.” (1 Cor 10:16-17) The speakers, Bishop Christian Reisbeck and Fr. Dave Pivonka have been eloquently reminding us what Jesus said; “You can’t do anything without me” and that it is the Holy Spirit that brings us to a personal encounter with Jesus. The anchor of our faith is a lived encounter with the Lord based on the deep desire of God that we know and experience His love. This the Holy Spirit wants to pour into our hearts on a scale of Niagara Falls. This will transform people’s lives. This is the real challenge before us at this time. There has been a tsunami of secularism that has engulfed our society. This can be seen in the significant changes in marriage and an open season on the unborn. The answer is a tsunami of the Holy Spirit as on the first Pentecost; a need for signs and wonders in our day. All our ministries, EVERYTHING we do needs to be about this prime task of the Church, evangelization which is coming to know, love and welcome Jesus into the whole of our lives. The call to universal holiness. Now this is not the first time that I have heard talks of this nature. It can be easy to give into discouragement. The one thing that gives me much hope this time around is what I believe the Holy Spirit is doing in St. Roch’s at this time. I honestly believe that our Light of the World retreats are exactly the way the Spirit works. They are already bearing much fruit. I am returning with a real enthusiasm for preparing for our next retreat in October.

Let us continue to love one another,

Fr. Roy

How about making a Cursillo weekend?

Cursillo or "short course in Christianity" is an uplifting and educational experience. Cursillo was brought from Spain to the United States in 1962. The weekend is con-ducted by a team of laypeople and clergy who deliver organized talks and discussions. What the presenters add to the talks is the witness of their own lives, their strug-gles and triumphs in Christ. The weekend is full of laughter, prayer, great music, wonderful meals and so much more. The next women’s Cursillo weekend is being held October 12-15, 2017. Both Retreats will be held at the Immaculate Conception Spiritual Renewal Center in Putnam, CT. For additional information and/or an application, please contact: Joan Laracy 774-239-2474 or Carolyn Galgano 508-847-7005.

Thanks TO OUR ADVERTISERS

Many parishioners do not know that our advertisers sponsor the cost of printing our bulletin each week. It is through the advertisers’ generous support of the faith community that the bulletin is made possible.

The best way to thank these generous people is to re-fer to your bulletin when you need goods or services. We owe them a real debt of gratitude. Tell them that you saw their ad in the parish bulletin, thus encouraging their con-tinued support. There is a definite relationship built when our advertisers feel that their support is meaningful and worthwhile. Please help us encourage them to continue to provide a quality Parish Bulletin for you.
