GOSPEL SUMMARY

In today’s Gospel, Jesus’ followers reach a point on the journey where it is time to make a decision. Do they believe in Jesus and in what He has said? Should they continue to follow Him? Or is it time to walk away and to return to their former way of living? Many are unable to accept Jesus’ words and choose to no longer accompany Him. When Jesus asks the Twelve if they also want to leave, Peter answers, “Master, to whom shall we go?”

dates are Feb. 20 to Mar. 1, 2019. If you have not seen the information on this trip, there are some flyers in the back of the church or you can call the office. Can you spare some quarters for Laundry Love ??? St. Stephen’s is part of an ecumenical effort called: Laundry Love. It gives economic relief to families who can then spend their money on other necessities like food, gas, and medicine. Parishes provide $150 in quarters, laun-dry supplies, snacks for the kids, and 4 volunteers. We greet qualified participants, load machines with quarters and give out laundry supplies and cookies for the kids. Volunteers do NOT load or fold clothes. St. Stephen is the host parish on Tuesday, August 28th from 4:30-7:00pm at the Cadiz Coin Laun-dry. Would appreciate your support of quarters or paper money! Contact Ann Curtsinger at (270) 206-8167 for more information or to Volunteer.

NOTE: If your special day is not acknowledged; please call the office with your information, so we can update our files.

FAST: Offer a sacrifice for the intention.

LEARN: .Roe is bad Constitutional law.

Even legal experts who support abortion believe Roe is not well-reasoned and is a case of extreme judicial overreach.

The late Yale Law Professor John Hart Ely said, Roe v Wade is "a very bad decision…because it is not constitutional law and gives almost no sense of an obligation to try to be."1

Attorney Edward Lazarus, former law clerk to Roe's author, Justice Blackmun, put it this way: "As a matter of constitutional interpretation and judicial method, Roe borders on the indefen-sible… [It is] one of the most intellectually sus-pect constitutional decisions of the modern era."2

Harvard Law Professor Lawrence Tribe criticized Roe saying, "behind its own verbal smokescreen, the substantive judgment on which it rests is nowhere to be found."3

Justice Sandra Day O'Connor said, "The Court's abortion decisions have already worked a major distortion in the Court's Constitutional jurisprudence…no legal rule or doctrine is safe from ad hoc nullification by this Court."4 And then-Circuit Judge (now Justice) Ruth Ba-der Ginsburg said Roe "ventured too far in the change it ordered and presented an incomplete justification for its action."5 When experts on both sides of the abortion debate agree that Roe is bad law, reversing it makes good legal sense and would return abortion policy back to the people to be decided through the democratic process.
