GOSPEL SUMMARY

In this gospel, Peter named Jesus as the Messiah. Later Jesus named Peter as the foundation of the earthly Church and gave him the keys of power. Peter was to be like the steward of a palace making decisions for the Church commu-nity. God promised to stand behind Peter's decisions

REFLECTION FOR FAMILIES Sometimes it seems like an awesome responsibility, but our children look to us as the rock on which they build many things: their trust in other people, their hope, and certainly their faith in God's promises. The way our children see us respond to others, what they hear us say, and what they see us do, will shape who Jesus is in their lives. Taking a moment to pray for guidance and wisdom before we act or react to a situation may be just enough to let Jesus in.

VOCATION AWARNESS August 27, 2017

Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time “You are Peter,

and upon this rock I will build My church” Jesus called the twelve apostles and from among them, chose Peter to be the rock on which He would build His church. Since then, the Catholic Church has had a tradition of unbroken apostolic succes-sion. Today, those called to the priesthood are ordained by Bishops who are successors to those first Apostles, and together they follow Christ in ser-vice to the Church as they offer sacramental and pastoral care to God’s people. If you feel that God might be calling you to the vocation of priesthood, contact the vocations office for resources and sup-port at 270-683-1545 and via the internet at:

www.owensborovocations.com [email protected]

Movie Day—”Invictus”(starring Morgan Freeman

& Matt Damon) is showing Sunday, September 17 in the Parish Hall from 2—4 pm. Theme: Nelson

Mandela, in his first term as the South African President, initiates a unique venture to unite the apartheid-torn land and enlists the national rugby team on a mis-sion to win the 1995 Rugby World Cup. Action is great and the un-

derlying messages are timeless. Popcorn and drinks provided. Appropriate for all age groups. Please sign up in Narthex for setup purposes.
