21371 St. Theresa Lane, Ashburn, Virginia 20147 St. Theresa Catholic Church Dear Parishioners, This Friday marks the 43rd anniversary of the Supreme Court decision, Roe V. Wade, that legalized abortion in the United States. What a sad reality to consider the millions of lives that have been senselessly lost to violence in the womb of a child’s own mother since this decision was passed. We can often feel hopeless and helpless in the face of such an atrocity – and yet we are called to be a people of hope. The Gospel offers us hope and our Faith affords us the hope to trust in God’s providence and know that his truth will ultimately prevail: the eternal truth that all human life is sacred, from the very moment of conception. We are called to witness to this truth – yes, in prayer and in peaceful pro- test, like this Friday’s March for Life, but moreover we are called to witness in the way that we treat the lives that we see before us each day – the lives with whom we interact, sometimes on a daily basis. We can witness to life by putting God’s mercy into practice each day. For those who have experi- enced the sadness of an abortion in your own life – God loves you and of- fers you his mercy in the Sacrament of Penance. If you have never con- fessed your sin to a priest – make a good Confession and experience the infinite mercy of God in this Jubilee Year of Mercy. Let us celebrate the life that is ours in Christ Jesus! May God bless you all – and may we all be witnesses to his life and his love in the world! 2016 Bishop’s Lenten Appeal Begins!

This month many of us will receive a mailing from Bishop Loverde regard-ing the 2016 Bishop’s Lenten Appeal (BLA). The theme for the 2016 BLA is “Go forth as heralds of God’s mercy.” After reflecting upon the many bless-ings that God has given you, please prayerfully consider making a pledge of support to this important appeal that funds many programs and minis-tries that serve the people in our dio-cese. Every pledge is an expression of God’s love and mercy! Faith Direct

The twelve days of Christmas culmi-nated with the celebration of the won-derful feast of Epiphany. I am thank-ful for all the generous gifts that you provide to our parish, but I realize that you cannot be with us ever Sun-

day of the year. Please consider using our secure electronic giving program Faith Direct. Faith Direct will auto-matically process any offertory or sec-ond collections donations of your choosing.

You can sign up online at www.faithdirect.net using our church code: VA14, or by mailing a paper enrollment form available in the par-ish office. Support our Parish or Diocese through a Tax-Free IRA Gift!

Congress has signed a new law that made the IRA charitable rollover ret-roactive to Jan. 1, 2015, and will re-main in effect for 2016 and beyond. Why is this important?.....This provi-sion allows individuals age 70½ or

older to make tax-free gifts from an IRA account directly to a parish, school, or the Diocese. To complete an IRA Charitable Rollover for 2015 and/or 2016, please contact your IRA provider for exact instructions. Such transactions usually take a few weeks, but the provider should be able to fast-track such a transaction since this law just went into effect. For questions or to request a sample letter of instruction for your IRA pro-vider, please contact Matthew Dwyer at 703.841.3819 or [email protected], or go to http://www.legacy.vg/arlingtondiocese/articles/95.html quest for meaning and peace.

Festival of Trees

It is hard to believe that Christmas has come and gone and the New Year has begun since our annual Parish Festival of Trees in December. Just one month ago, we had our wonderful fund raising Festival, raising over $13,000 in revenue from the raffle of beautiful, themed Trees and Wreaths donated from our Parishioners and Parish organizations. This was our highest monetary donation to Divine Mercy Outreach to date and none of this would be possible without the total commitment of our Festival Committee and wonderful Parish vol-unteers who work so hard every year in support of helping those in need

within our community. Putting time and skills into helping God’s sheep is a wonderful annual Advent project; rewarding to both those in need and those needing to help. For the Decem-ber 2016 Festival, many reservations for themed, pre-lit Trees and Wreaths have already been received. It’s never too early! Contact Dee Lavanty, [email protected], with your Tree and/or Wreath theme reservation for the Festival of Trees, December 2016. God bless you all! Homily Real-Time Translation (CART) Updates
