    ANTIOXIDANTS PERMITTED FOR

    USE IN FOODSTUFFS

    1. SCOPE AND FIELD OF APPLICATION

    This standard is concerned with antioxidants and antioxidant synergists

    permitted for use in food products.

    2. COMPLEMENTARY REFERENCES

    2.1 GSO 9/1994 “Labelling of Prepackaged Foods”.

    2.2 GSO 795/1997 “Methods of Test for Antioxidants Permitted for Use in Food

    Products”.

    3. DEFINITION

    3.1 Antioxidant: Substance used for the protection of food products against

    deterioration caused by oxidation.

    3.2 Synergists: Substances used to act or react with another food ingredient to

    produce a total effect different or greater than the sum of the effects produced

    by the individual antioxidants.

    4. CHARACTERISTICS

    4.1 No antioxidants and antioxidant synergists other than those mentioned in the

    Table shall be used in food products.

    4.2 Limits of antioxidants and synergists permitted for used in food products shall

    not exceed the maximum limits given in the provided table No. 1.

    4.3 Limits of contaminants which may be present in antioxidants and synergists

    permitted for used in food products shall not exceed the maximum limits given

    in the provided table No. 1
