Christmas….St.BernardofClairvaux,a12thcenturyCistercianmonk,imaginedthatChristwascontinuallybeingborninallofusaswejourneytowardmaturityincommunionwithJesusthroughtheHolySpirittotheFather.OurChristiandestiny,inhisview,isforeachpersontomatureintoparticularandoriginalhumanface,auniqueimageofGodfromwhicheachperson’sinteriorlife“inChrist”couldshinethroughtolighttheworld.ThomasMertonpickedupthisthemeThemysteryofChristmasthereforelaysuponusalladebtandobligationtotherestofhumanityandtothewholecreateduniverse.WewhohaveseenthelightofChristareobliged,bythegreatnessofthegracethathasbeengivenus,tomakeknownthepresenceoftheSaviortotheendsoftheearth.Thiswewilldonotonlybypreachingthegladtidingsofhiscoming,butaboveallbyrevealinghiminourlives.Christisborntous
