From the Pastor Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Today we begin the beautiful month of the Blessed Virgin Mary. May with all its flowers and beauty is when nature is most adorned and lovely. Of all of all of God’s creation Mary shines forth as the Queen, the most wonderful creature ever made God, surpassing even the angels with all their splendor and glory. And to think that she is also our mother on the order of grace!! She is sweet and full of tenderness and she wishes above all to help us obtain our eternal salvation. Its is only right and fitting that we honor her and that we lover her and that we thank God for her wonderful maternal meditation that has already done more for us than we can ever hope for or imagine. On this first day of May therefore we will ceremonially crown the image of Mary thus symbolizing our recognition of her as our Queen and Mother. We will do so before the 10:30 a.m. Latin Mass and then after the12:30 p.m. Spanish Mass as well. At around 1:30 p.m. today we will process around the block with the image of the Virgin Mary and sing some songs and then return to church for the May crowning and afterwards a little fiesta. Everyone is welcome to join in with the calibration as you see it fit. On Wednesday evening we will have another crown-ing with the children of the catechism classes . And finally on Friday of this week yet another May crowning with the children of the school right after the 8:30 a.m. school Mass. We hope that you will take the opportunity to participate in at least one of these services. At home you are each encouraged to make the commitment to pray the family rosary before the image of the Blessed Mother that has been nicely adorned for the month of May. The “ alter” where the image of the Blessed Mother is placed should have candles and flowers. It is where the family should gather each day to recite five decades of the Holy Rosary. What good does it do to have May crownings and sing songs to the Vir-gin and then promptly forget about her for the rest of her special month. We need to try to honor her

each day of May and the best way is through the family rosary. May is also a very busy month for those getting married, or for those celebrating Fist Holy Communion, or Confirmation, or who are graduating, or who are having Baptisms and Quinceaños. Many anniversaries occur during this month Mary as well. Including the anniversary of ordination of Father Fasching and me May 31st. I hope to invite the seminarians of the diocese to a special Mass and breakfast that morning as well as some of the young men from our parish who are considering a vocation to the priesthood. If I am unaware of your consideration of this special call-ing please let me know so that I can invite you as well. May 31st is the Feast of the Visitation in the Novus Ordo calendar and in traditional calendar it is Queenship of Mary . Please say prayer for Father Fasching and me on that day if you remember. This coming Friday of May and as usual there will be in addition to the 8:30 a.m. school Mass a Mass at 5:30 p.m. in Latin and a 7:00 p.m. in Spanish. Father Fasching will also conduct a Holy hour for children that same day 4:00 p.m. to which all the children of the parish are invited. The next day Sat-urday, May 7th there will be an 8:30a.m. English Mass for the First Saturday followed by the Padre Pio Prayer Group. The topic of discussion will be “Contemplative Prayer” and will be presented by Shirley Folwarkski. Coffee and donuts will be served too right after the 8:30 a.m. Mass and be-fore the presentation. Please come and enjoy the fellowship and learning experience. There will also be a Latin Mass that day at noon as has been our custom for the past year as well as a First Holy Communion Mass at 2:00 p.m. for the 5th through12th grader from catechism classes. It looks like it is going to be a busy week but that is not all. On Thursday of this week the Latin Mass group will celebrate the solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord with special Mass at 7:00 p.m. It will be

solemn high Mass. In the Novus Ordo the Ascen-sion has been transferred to Sunday in our Diocese and most U.S. dioceses. The Ascension occurred forty days after Easter and that is why this coming Thursday is marked by the celebration of the of this great Feast. All are invited, of course to at-tend. If there are Hispanic parishioners in atten-dance I will be preaching in English and Spanish. Special hand-outs will be available to help every-one follow along with the mass. Next Sunday (May 8th ) at 2:30 p.m. Bishop Slattery will cele-brate his 50th anniversary as a priest with a special Mass at Holy Family Cathedral. All are invited to Attend. There will be a light reception following the Mass. Let us continue to pray for Bishop Slattery and for the man who will soon replace him. We don’t yet know who that will be. God bless you during this week. Let us pray for each other. Sincerely yours, Father Timothy Davison
