SOIL has given a lot of joy to all members of our Eco-System: Founders, Faculty, Staff, Alumni, Students, NGO partners, Consortium members and recruiters.The founders count their blessings for being given an opportunity to develop leaders who truly care for the planet, have the competence to contribute to business excellence and have the “enthusiasm” to make a difference. The faculty love our students and consider “learning” a process in which they serve as facilitators. Our staff trust the people they work for, take real pride in what they do and deeply enjoy the spirit & community in SOIL.Our alumni have deep bonds of love and ownership for SOIL as they strive hard to give off their best. Our students are our real wealth. They bring their “goodness” in every sense and create the positive vibes that make us unique.Our NGO partners enjoy the relationship with SOIL of being a co-creator and shaper of our social innovation agenda.Our consortium members gain deep satisfaction in contributing to the development of a School with a difference. And our recruiters celebrate the products of SOIL by participating in large numbers to fulfill their need for talent that is well rounded.It gives us tremendous joy to present our third batch of young leaders to you.The batch of 2012 has continued the tradition of SOIL students by taking responsibility for the way we live. They have taken to our Social Innovation Program like a fish takes to water. They have also reached out to many other institutions to spread the message of Inspired Leadership through several interventions. They are not just hungry to know but also to do, thus bridging the knowing-doing gap. Not a day passes without our seeing the impact they are making by expressing themselves about issues they deeply care about through social media and blogs.This group has taken the initiative in building the reputation capital for SOIL through collaboration with other institutions, participation in and organization of external forums-using all channels to reach out to other young people and communicating and personifying the power of Inspired Leadership.They have done us proud by managing several activities with great enthusiasm. Here are two simple examples:-the morning circle is owned and led by the students, a ritual followed at SOIL every morning, in which the whole school gets together to share and celebrate -Sourcing of live projects from mentors and other industry leaders to enhance learningThis batch showcases extraordinary talent in multiple ways – we have amateur writers including a student who has written a book on 'Self- realization', some of our students are brilliant artists, budding poets and skillful dancers. It is joyful to see these multiple intelligences in action. I appreciate the focus of this batch on their own holistic development, be it academics or extracurricular activities. This group is truly taking SOIL to the next level – and that's why they have been christened as the 'The Game Changers'.As Dr. Srikant Datar of Harvard Business school mentions in his new book 'Rethinking the MBA'(paraphrased) –To create true leaders a B-school should balance knowing, doing and being. The SOIL curriculum is designed through several workshops held with leaders from our industry consortium. The curriculum not only includes a balanced focus on leadership development, business excellence and skill development but also meets the needs of the industry while focusing on contemporary global corporate themes.

Our focus at SOIL is to ensure we tailor make talent with the right values for leading companies. This begins by using standards of selection that are followed by reputed companies. Each student at SOIL is interviewed and selected by a panel comprising leaders from the Industry Consortium & SOIL.

SOIL organizes Learning Days to welcome each consortium company on campus and involves them in a day at SOIL. Senior management from each company spends time with students in the classroom sharing insights from their experiences and discussing live case studies. This highlights performance breakthroughs in the face of adverse conditions - Leadership lessons for life.

Culturally savvy leaders utilize mentoring as a strategy for generating success in challenging times. At SOIL, every student is assigned a leader from the corporate world as a mentor. This helps the students to get career planning inputs from practitioners and build a regular platform for networking with organizations. Mentors not only help students work towards achieving the students learning and career goals but also act as positive role models and friends.

Our consortium companies invest valuable time to build a talent pipeline that meets the highest quality standards of industry at large, thereby, improving career options for our students. Their inputs have been critical and have greatly enhanced the scope of successful placements.

Academies at SOIL are a forum for supplementing classroom learning through knowledge sharing and exchange of ideas in areas such as HR, Marketing, Consulting and IT among others. Through regular interactions at pre-determined intervals, the participants discuss the industry landscape, explore various career options, learn from the experience of seasoned business leaders and gain insights into the functioning of leading organizations.

The Academies not only enhance student learning through experience sharing and exposure along with guiding students towards making the right career choices but also facilitate research and encourage participants to develop case studies and write papers in the respective areas.

These objectives are achieved through :• Sessions with guest speakers who are experts in their fields• Seminars and Workshops around themes relevant to the given business context• Company Days which provide an opportunity to learn about the unique facets of consortium companies• Company visits by students• Research oriented projects which generate insights into the use of tools, methodologies and application of

concepts among others

The Social Innovation Program (SIP) at SOIL involves a team of students working closely with an organization working towards community development. We have partnered with 25 NCR based organizations this year and our students spend one day every week working with these partners. Every team has chosen a project that they can contribute meaningfully to and these include building business plans for income generation activity, developing case studies as marketing collateral, innovative fund raising initiatives amongst others.

The Student Council addresses key concerns of the student community and also organizes multi faceted events in various disciplines.

It is a student body that aims to build reputation capital through effective communication. They share their everyday experiences and learning at SOIL through various media.

It is the placement cell at SOIL that facilitates interactions between recruiters and students to reach a right match as per company requirements and student aspirations.

The alumni committee is a student-led body that aims to promote continued involvement of students in SOIL through networking, reunions and alumni chapters.

Roots is responsible for all community giving events at SOIL with the ultimate goal of SEVA. Its vision is to convert social consciousness into actionable events that are student driven.

CAREER FORWARD AT A GLANCEAt School of Inspired Leadership (SOIL), placement is a matter of choice where informed parties – recruiting companies and students, engage in conversations for the right fit between student and company. This activity has been envisaged as a defining action that impacts decisions and careers not only in the present but also in the future. At SOIL this engagement between students and recruiting companies has been christened as “CAREER FORWARD”. This is a faculty monitored, student driven initiative that facilitates students to make the right career choices. SOIL invites to campus - companies across sectors and industries that practice values of ethics and integrity at their work place as an integral part of their business functions. Given the origin of SOIL and the journey thus far – an act of co-creation with 32 companies as Industry consortium members at all levels viz. course design, admissions, course delivery and mentoring, the visiting companies choose to make offers at par with the best in the industry.

Caliper Profiling

SOIL uses the Caliper Profile, acknowledged as the most accurate mapping method of the qualities it takes to succeed, in virtually every position and every industry. Validated by over four decades of research and 2 million users, it identifies key drivers, giving an objective perspective on strengths and areas for development.

The measure and analysis of 18 personality traits indicates potential in 6 core competency areas- as per Indian norms and benchmarked against global leaders. The Caliper Profile Report describes unique competencies, projected behavior and percentile ranking of underlying traits.

Each student at SOIL is assessed by Caliper for their strengths and areas of development and is provided with the Caliper Assessment and Development Reports. These enable the SOIL Mentoring Team to know more about the students (educational background, work experience, career aspirations, learning goals and learning needs).

Students build Individual Learning Plan (ILP) based on their Caliper profile that enable them to focus on their unique assets and talents throughout the program. Every student is assigned a mentor who guides them on each of the learning and development goals.

Abhinav is an Electronics & Communication engineer with 3.6 years of experience in the IT services industry as an Assistant Systems Engineer at Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. He has also worked as a web designer in the BFSI sector and as a technical writer for a short stint.

Abhinav is a structured and disciplined individual who can translate his ideas into a well-defined, systematic plan of action. He dedicatedly meets his deadlines and takes on new activities. He has a high abstract reasoning capability that enables him to grasp information and solve problems. He has the ability to isolate the components, determine cause and effect and reassemble the pieces.

Abhinav looks forward to a career in the area of consulting and strategy planning where he can make use of his ability to lead big teams, good analytical skills and excellent leadership skills to sell a vision.

Abhishek is a graduate in Computer Science &Engineering with4 years of work experience. At Infosys Technologies, he was in the role of a Technology Analyst, in the area of a banking product –Finacle. He has cross functional experience in Mutual Funds and structured products domains. His ability to understand the customer requirements, explore alternatives and manage his team effectively was instrumental in process improvements at his workplace. He also won the “Infosys Excellence Award -2009” and “Finacle Gem Award”.

Self-motivated and energetic, Abhishek takes a structured approach in managing inter-related activities, sets priorities and delivers on time. He has the ability to sense the criticality of details and patiently deal with them. Abhishek believes that “There is no alternative to hard work in life”.

With expertise in developing IT solutions aligned with business objectives, Abhishek is interested in a career in pre-sales or IT consulting.

He has been recognized as a high performer at various occasions.

Abhishek demonstrates excellent leadership capability and adds immense positive energy to his work ecosystem. He assertively presents his goals and ideas and negotiates mutually beneficial outcomes. Adarsh is an Electronics & Communication engineer with 3.5 years of IT experience in the Banking domain. He has worked as a Software Engineer at Infosys on technologies such as Java and data warehousing. He has been appreciated by clients and received a certificate of appreciation at the unit level for handling challenging assignments.

Adarsh is an outgoing and extrovert person who easily establishes a good rapport with the people he meets. He believes in hard work and commitment and his sense of responsibility helps him to stay focused on his objectives and tasks with thoroughness and accuracy. Adarsh is able to coordinate his work with an awareness of existing guidelines and procedures.

Adarsh wants to establish a career in a business development role in the IT sector where he can use his analytical and relationship building skills to build customer relationships and bring new business to the organization.

As a part of SIP, Adarsh has been working for community upliftment projects which has helped him to understand and apply the key competencies of management like influencing, decision making, interpersonal skills, problem solving and time management in real life. Ajay did his engineering in Electronics and Telecommunication from BIT, Durg and has close to 3.5 years of IT experience with Infosys Technologies. During his stint with Infosys, he has worked across different technologies and domains which demonstrate his capability to learn more and adapt to new situations. He has expertise in the field of software design, client relationship management, business analysis and training and development.

Ajay is a quick learner and a highly motivated individual. He has shown tremendous ability to work both independently and in teams to meet stringent deadlines. He adapts to new situations and applies his ideas effectively. He is an extrovert and finds it very easy to mingle with new people.

Ajay looks forward to opportunities to leverage his prior work experience and problem solving abilities for the benefit of the organization and is inclined to work in the field of Operations or Program Management.

Amandeep holds a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and has 3 years 8 months of work experience. He worked with Patni Computer Systems limited as an Analyst and held multiple responsibilities like providing ERP solutions, exchange server etc. He worked closely with the onsite team and the Client to reduce the SLA's of concurrent issues to meet business requirements.

Amandeep is a self-believer, motivated and confident individual with a very positive outlook towards life. His assertive nature, risk taking capability and gregariousness makes him a charismatic leader. He is a team player who handles tough situations with a cool head. Loaded with positive energy and zeal to make a difference, Amandeep is also a quick learner and exhibits high idea orientation.

Amandeep wants to leverage his prior experience by working in the area of Business development and Brand Management.

Amandeep was able to leverage his classroom learning on project management to complete a live project on re-designing MySOIL ERP. He implemented the Marketing and Branding concepts successfully to interact with media houses to partner with SOIL for the Inspired Leadership conference. He headed the PR wing at SOIL to promote events such as meeting of Minds and Inspired Leadership conference.

Amber, a B.E. in Computer Science, has about 5 years of work experience. At Accenture Services, he led an 8 member testing team in the capacity of a software test lead. He also led the automation effort at the client location in Princeton, U.S.A and was instrumental in reducing the maintenance cost to half. His ability to excel under stressful conditions not only got him back to back top ratings but also brought him higher responsibilities.

An exuberant crisis manager, Amber demonstrates a never give up attitude in all spheres of life. He leads from the front and motivates his team members to bring the best out in them. He always seeks new challenges and is an action oriented person who believes in implementing ideas at the first go itself.

Amber looks forward to working as a strategic consultant as he finds defining and implementing business strategy a very challenging area in today's highly competitive industry.

Amber has been honing his leadership skills by driving various initiatives such as the SOIL sports association, Career Forward team etc. He also explored his entrepreneurial side at SOIL by winning the business case competition. Amit is an Electronics engineer with 2.8 years of experience. He has worked with international brands including Computer Associates and United Health Group. At CA, Amit was recognized as the 'employee-of-the-month' for his outstanding contribution towards Quality Assurance and leading a team for driving its sales-from-trial-leads initiative. Amit was chosen as a member of ERwin® cross-functional-team and was awarded for sustaining product releases as a Release engineer.

Abhishek has an extraordinary ability to generate new ideas and evaluate them for viability and it helps him to assimilate complex issues. Ananthan Purushothaman is a Bachelor of Technology (Biotechnology) and has as a work experience of 1.5 years with Mafoi Randstad as a Software Tester. He was involved in testing web based Human Resources Management System (HRMS). With the virtue of his ability to handle unpredictable and high pressure situations, he was mostly involved in flagship projects.

Ananthan demonstrates high levels of analytical and logical abilities. He is extremely optimistic, and looks to learn from his mistakes. Always high on energy, he is a good team player. Professor Singh has rich experience in direct taxation and has administered the law, researched on it, formulated policies with regard to its implementation, practiced it as departmental counsel and taught it both to officers of the Indian Revenue Service and to MBA students at the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of management, Mumbai. Recently retired as Ombudsman to the Income-tax department, Mumbai, he has also co-authored special chapters on the Vigilance Manual on vigilance management in public sector banks and public sector undertakings. As Director of Organisation and Management Services in the Central Board of Direct Taxes, he further co-authored about 50 management studies on diverse subjects.

Dr.N.R.Parasuraman has 27 years of experience in diverse areas of finance. He is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Company Secretaries and the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants, apart from being a Law graduate. His PhD was on the subject "Capital Structuring of Indian Companies". He was the Company Secretary of Federal Bank for 5 years.He has been in full-time academics for the last twelve years. His special areas of teaching and research are Strategy, Financial Derivatives and Multinational Finance.

He has published 25 papers and concept articles in various journals. He has authored a book titled 'Fundamentals of Financial Derivatives' published by Wiley India Limited, which figured in the Business World top10 management bestsellers in August, 2008. He is also currently an Adjunct Faculty at the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode.

Neetika Batra is a graduate from SRCC, and a masters in finance from Delhi University. She started her career in the year 1990 in Investment banking with SBI Capital Markets Ltd. She was heading the team of Corporate finance professionals, as Vice President for several years, handling activities like issue management, funds syndication, project advisory services and so on. Then she co-founded her own boutique investment banking company in 2005, which later got merged with another investment bank. Simultaneously, she started getting teaching and consulting assignments. She has been in the academic world for the last about five years and is a visiting faculty to many prestigious B-schools. She is also into designing and conducting various MDPs and corporate training programs. She is currently the co-chair for BLP at SOIL.

Shyam Viswanathan has been the Dean (Executive Education) of the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad. He has also coached CEOs and Leadership Teams across areas of Strategic Planning, Leadership, Personal Effectiveness, Change Management, Team Building, Innovation & Creativity and Marketing & Sales.

He was the Founder CEO of an international services organization and has been on the Board of Directors of corporations both in India and the US. Shyam Viswanathan is an Electrical Engineer and an alumnus of the Faculty of Management Studies of Delhi University. Shyam has recently rejoined Grow Talent as Executive Director- Strategic Initiatives for SOIL.

Prior to joining SOIL as Resident Faculty for Information Management , Shri Kant Gupta worked as a full time Professor of Information Technology for five years with FORE School of Management, New Delhi teaching MBA students. Earlier he was a professor with Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad. He has been a visiting faculty at FMS, New Delhi. He has a B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering from DCE, M S (Industrial Engineering), MBA from USA. He has over 30 years experience working with the corporate world. He was a General Manager with NIIT and has also headed a California based software company prior to moving to academics. His research, teaching and consulting interests lie in the area of IT strategy, Business Transformation through Information Technology, Software Project Management.

Arunav Banerjee is currently the Director-Executive Education at SOIL. He has 15 years of consulting experience & has worked with firms such as Ernst & Young, Arthur Andersen, & PricewaterhouseCoopers. He had earlier launched his own consulting firm Triple A Consulting. His areas of expertise include Organisation Design & Structuring including branding for several organisations across sectors. He has also developed his own job evaluation methodology which has been tested across many companies including Infosys.

Arunav also enjoys coaching & mentoring. He writes a column for the Hindustan Times on career related discussions. He completed his Bachelors degree from IIT Kharagpur and then did his Post Graduation in Behavioural Sciences from IIM, Kolkata. He also has a degree in Law from Bangalore University.

Snehal holds a Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University, USA with specialization in Organization Behavior and Human Resources. She has 12 years of varied experience in Industry, Teaching and Consulting in the US and in India. In addition, her work has been published in renowned journals in the US and has been presented at International conferences.

Snehal's experience includes Leadership Development Engagement with a wide range of companies, backed by a strong foundation in research and teaching. She is also the co-author of a book titled “Research Methods for NGOs in South Asia”.

Ashutosh Mishra is the founder Partner of PROACT Management Consulting. With over 14 years of line and consulting experience, he has been instrumental in several “Transformation” initiatives in a wide spectrum of industries. He has a background in implementation of “Total Quality” Programmes, Six Sigma projects and Business Process Re-engineering initiatives.

He was part of one of the pioneering efforts in the Indian consulting arena pertaining to “Service Quality”. He was instrumental in establishing “Service Quality” as a consulting practice by successfully developing a version of “Service Strategy Deployment” customised to the Indian context. This aims at creating a well defined Service Strategy for a Service Organisation and implementing it to achieve Tangible, Measurable, Time-bound business goals that are owned up and well accepted at all levels in the organisation.

Prior to SOIL, Atindra was associated with Institute for Integrated Learning in Management (IILM), Greater Noida for six years, as an Associate Professor of Marketing. He was also the Dean (Academics) at IILM Graduate School of Management, Greater Noida handling their AICTE approved PGDM programme.

In addition to his academic experience, Atindra has 18 years of experience in the industry and has worked with brands like Amul, Dhara, Vadilal, Ravi Fans, Lovett etc. at the national level. His expertise lies is in areas of Channel Management, Sales Force Management, Retail Management, Consumer Behaviour and Entrepreneurship. He is also an honorary faculty with the National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN) of the Wadhwani Foundation and is on the Mentor Advisory Panel of Bharatiya Yuva Shakti Trust (BYST), an NGO working for micro-enterprise financing and mentoring.

Dr. Lilach Nachum

Dr. Vinita Sahay is a Professor of Marketing at IMT Ghaziabad. She is also a visiting Professor at Aarhus Business School, Aarhus University, Denmark. Prior to IMT, Dr. Sahay held the posts of Head of the Marketing Department, Chief Mentor of the organization and Member of Academic Advisory Council at Amity Business School, Noida. She was also a Faculty Member at ICFAI Business School, Gurgaon where she was HOD Marketing. In her previous assignments at ITS, she had been Chairperson of Post-Graduate Program in Management and Founder Editor of Synergy: ITS Journal of IT and Management. She has secured first class with high ranks throughout her academic career. She did her PGDM with Marketing as a major concentration area. She secured a first class with a Gold Medal in M.A. in Economics and has done her Ph.D. on Customer Value.

Dr. Sahay has about 17 years of experience in Industry and in teaching and training. Her teaching, research and training interests include Marketing of Services, Retailing Management, Customer Value, Customer Satisfaction, CRM and Consumer Behavior. She has conducted many management development programs for senior executives.

Dr. Sahay has published and presented many research papers in International and National journals and conferences. She is currently working on her book on Customer Relationship Management.

Lilach Nachum, Professor of International Business at City University New York, is a world-known expert on globalization issues and multinational companies. Prior to joining City University New York, she held senior positions in the United Nations and at Cambridge University UK. She has also been acting as a consultant to the United Nations, the World Bank, and the European Union, among others, and has been holding visiting positions at universities in Austria, China, Hong-Kong, India, Israel, Italy, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan and the UK. Professor Nachum is the author of two books and numerous articles published in the leading journals in her field. She is a Board member of the four leading journals in international business. Professor Nachum holds a BA and MBA degrees from Tel Aviv University, Israel (both completed with distinction) and a PhD in International Business from Copenhagen Business School.
