FULL DAY SCHEDULE

Each morning, activities will center around our thematic units with lots of fun, hands-on learning through arts and crafts as well as language and culture activities. Afternoons will include field trips and special recreational activities, recess, computer lab and free time to be social with friends. Plenty of outdoor playtime and daily physical activities will keep your camper fit and make each day fun!

The New School’s campus offers excellent facilities for summer fun indoors and out. Our campers’ days are filled with stimulating activities that build physical awareness and self esteem. Recreational activities take place inside our gym or on our spacious outdoor playground facilities and playing fields.

Each summer unit will consist of fun, hands-on morning activities based on the unit theme. Campers will learn by doing through cooking, crafting, drawing, painting, exploring, sharing and playing.

Each summer day at The New School balances structured activities with free time to let campers choose their own activities with friends. After each day’s afternoon activity, campers spend the rest of the day in a relaxed, social environment with recess, computer lab, and free art.

SUMMER ACADEMIES

SONGWRITING AND AUDIO ENGINEERING ACADEMY

WITH MR. AUSTIN

The New School’s songwriting and audio engineering academy will show students the ins and outs of making music, the song writing process, and how to enhance other kinds of art using music. For the songwriting portion of the academy, students will work together and individually via step-by-step guidance in writing songs and recording their music to share with their peers and family. Students will use both acoustic instruments such as percussion, guitars, and voice along with computer software instruments to create truly unique music. In addition to writing songs students will take part in other projects that require them to think creatively by using everyday objects to make sound effects that will sonically create the sounds of haunted houses, robots, nature, and more! Students will also take part in a film scoring project where they will learn to write a piece of music to fit a video clip, photograph, or painting! Finals projects of the students work will be presented at the end of the program. No previous musical experience is required!

JUNE 8-12, 8-10 A.M. GRADES 4-7. Minimum of 3 students, maximum of 12. COST: $150

Students will get their hands dirty early on day one, building a simple project of their own with help from our awesome mentors.

JULY 7 & 8. GRADES 3-7. Priority registration for New School students is available until May 1. Availability is limited. COST: $150

In addition to our Summer Day Camp program, campers may sign up separately for one of our Summer Academies. Parents interested in signing up their camper for these academies can contact Jonny Schremmer at [email protected] or (479) 521-7037 for more information.

Students will design vector images, and then convert them to “tiles” which can be used to establish cross stitch patterns. We will then learn the basics of cross stitching and selecting materials. Students will leave with an understanding of two useful pieces of software, and a customized piece of artwork.
