Dear JCC Members and Friends,The swim club at the JCC is absolutely the place to be this sum-mer! If you haven’t already checked it out don’t miss the summer opportunity to maximize your JCC membership and enjoy the fun with your JCC friends and community. Our lifeguards and snack bar staff are ready and waiting to serve you.
Camp Ruach is in the final stages of preparation for what promises to be a WONDERFUL summer with its highest enrollment ever. High-lights include “Camplified” on July 16th, the camp-produced musical production of Willy Wonka, and, by far, the best, warmest and most fun camp staff anywhere. There are still a few Session II spots open in some groups. Please call Michelle at ext. 237 for more information.
The Blaustein Early Childhood Center is filling up quickly for September! Call Linda Weiss, Early Childhood Director, for a tour, or refer another family to our superior full day childcare and nursery school for ages 6 weeks through Kindergarten.
On behalf of the leadership and staff of the JCC, I wish you a sun-filled, stress-free summer containing lots of good times – making great memories with your family and friends - at the JCC!
Enjoy!

AQUATICS
INFANT/TODDLER COURSES
Aquatots IAges 6 months-18 months
A fun introduction to the water for infants beyond the bathtub! Songs and activities help to develop basic arm and leg movements as well as learning to be comfortable getting their faces and bodies wet. Water safety and fun is also stressed. A swim diaper and rubber pants are required under the child’s swimsuit.
Aquatots IIAges 18 months to 3 years old
For those little swimmers who are already comfortable in the water! Songs and activities help infants and toddlers further gain confidence and practice their budding basic swimming skills. Starfish skills are introduced and children begin to work more with the instructor to get prepared to move to the next level of swimming and rely less on Mommy and Daddy’s help. A swim diaper and rubber pants are required under a child’s swimsuit.
Little StarfishAges 2 and a half - 3 and a half
This course is for those little ones who can’t wait to put their faces in the water and splash around but aren’t quite ready to leave Mommy and Daddy and move onto Starfish. This course will teach all of the Starfish skills with the comfort of their parents or adult friend in the water to help them explore the fun world of the pool. Emphasis will be placed on transitioning toddlers from parents to instructor and gaining confidence with their independence in the water.
Proper Supervision...is more than the lifeguards’ responsibility:
Children ages 4 and younger MUST have an adult within arm’s length of them at all times. Children ages 7-11 are permitted in the pool provided that a parent remains in the pool area. Children ages 12 and up are permitted to be alone in the facility. Thank you for helping us keep our pools safe and secure.
Choosing the Right Swim Class/LevelIf you are unsure of a child’s level, you can bring your swimmer in to be tested or contact the Aquatics Director for questions. An in-person evaluation will ensure that your child will be in the correct class. It only takes a few minutes for an instructor to evaluate a swimmer’s level. Call the Aquatics office for more information or to schedule an appointment to start your swimmer off with the correct class this session.
Observation of LessonsWhile we recognize that parents are as thrilled about the progress of their children as the students are, we respectfully ask that parents remain seated on the 6 foot side of the pool bleachers for the duration of your child’s lesson. Unless specified (such as a parent/child swim class) parents are not permitted in the water with their children as this is a distraction to the group as a whole. Thank you for your cooperation.
Make Up PolicyGroup swim classes at the Bridgewater JCC enjoy a limited four student to one instructor ratio. Because of this ratio classes fill up quickly leaving not much option for a make-up class. In order to be considered for a make up class, a doctor’s note must be given to the Aquatics Office. The Aquatics Department cannot guarantee that a makeup class will be available, however every effort will be made to accommodate the need of the individual and that there is space in the class desired.

AQUATICSPRESCHOOL COURSES StarfishPreschool Level 1There are no prerequisites for this course. The objective of Level 1 is to help children feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely. In Level 1, elementary aquatic skills are taught, which children build on as they progress through the Preschool Aquatics and Learn-to-Swim levels. At this level, children also start developing good attitudes and safe practices around the water.
SeaponiesPreschool Level 2Children entering this course must have a Preschool Aquatics Level 1 certificate or be able to demonstrate all the completion requirements from Level 1. The objectives of Level 2 are to build upon the skills learned in Level 1 and give children success with fundamental skills. Children learn to float on their back without support and to recover to a vertical position. This level marks the beginning of true locomotion skills. Children continue to explore simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on front and back to lay the foundation for future strokes. Level 2 adds to the self-help and basic rescue skills begun in Level 1.

The JCC sponsors a host of fundraising events throughout the year that benefit The JCC Scholarship Fund. We ask you to support the Scholarship Fund by purchasing a Big Raffle ticket, sponsor a tee at the Golf Outing, sponsor a table at our Texas Hold’em and/ or place an ad in our Journal. Some of you unfamiliar with the Scholarship Fund may ask… “What is the JCC Scholarship Fund? How does it help the community? And… why should I contribute?” We would like to take this opportunity to tell you about the JCC Scholarship Fund and how it helps our members and our community.
Part of the JCC’s mission is to provide programs and services regardless of someone’s ability to pay. We have a process whereby individuals or families experiencing financial difficulties can apply to the JCC for financial assistance for preschool, camp or membership. In 2011, the JCC awarded more than $190,000 in scholarship assistance to individuals and families in need so that they can participate in activities, attend the Blaustein Early Childhood Center and JCC Camp Ruach. The JCC Camp and Preschool Scholarship Program makes it possible for youngsters to participate in JCC activities that they could not otherwise afford. Funds also support services to seniors including a hot lunch, exercise, entertainment and socialization. Scholarship as-sistance is provided to all who demonstrate financial need, regardless of race, creed, or color.
We hope this provides you with a better understanding of the important role the JCC Scholarship Fund plays in our community, and how simply purchas-ing a Raffle Ticket can help us fulfill our mission. If you have any questions or would like to make a donation to the JCC Scholarship Fund, please contact Laura Friedman, JCC Associate Executive Director at 908-725-6994 x213; [email protected] or mail a check to the “JCC”.
Thank you in advance for your support of the JCC Scholarship Fund.
