    Once again I am overwhelmed by the generosity of our parishion-ers. Recently the children of Wil & Barbara Rummel, made a dona-tion in memory of their parent’s to Holy Family. The money was used to offset the cost for the landscaping around the church. Also, another parishioner noticed that the “Lavabo” (the bowl that is used to wash the priests hands during Mass) was not adequate, and gave money to purchase a new crystal Lavabo. I give thanks to my God for the continuous generosity shown here at Holy Family. God bless, Fr. Thomas

    In his encyclical, "Ecclesia de Eucharistia" ("A Eucharistic Church"), in April 2003, Pope John Paul II encouraged the practice of

    spiritual communion, “which has been a wonderful part of Catholic life for centuries and recommended by saints who were masters of the spiritu-al life.” Spiritual communion isn’t as much a part of the Catholic vocabu-

    lary and consciousness as it was in the past, though it is just as real an opportunity for eucharistic grace as it ever was. Ironically, the encourage-ment of actual reception of the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass and the routine availability of eucharistic Communion today, a wonderful devel-opment begun in the time of Pope Pius X and emphasized by the Second Vatican Council, may have helped cause this other eucharistic gift to be overshadowed in our time. What is spiritual communion? St. Thomas Aquinas described it as

    “an ardent desire to receive Jesus in the most holy sacrament and lovingly embrace him” at a time or in circumstances when we cannot receive him in sacramental Communion. The Catechism of the Council of Trent de-voted a special section to spiritual communion in its program of renewal in the late 16th century. In the past, instruction manuals gave as the most familiar situation, the need of a mother to stay home from Sunday Mass to care for a sick child, thereby missing the opportunity for Communion. In such cases, the mother could make an act of spiritual commun-

    ion, uniting herself with the Mass in her parish church and receive the spiritual benefit of Communion. The opportunities for receiving spiritual communion are limitless, but particular circumstances make it appealing in our time. Today there are many Catholics who may not be able to re-ceive Communion because of a marriage not recognized by the Church. Often they are in a process of getting their marital status rectified, but

    until that is done, they cannot participate. But they are not prohibited from receiving Communion spiritually and receiving strength from the grace of the sacrament during a waiting period which is often painful. As the availability of priestly ministry de-creases, daily Mass becomes more and more scarce, and some communi-ties may not regularly have even a Communion service on Sunday. In our mobile society, people who otherwise might be at Mass are frequently on the move. Spiritual communion needs no special instruction; it only requires

    the same disposition as the actual reception of the sacrament and a turn-ing to Jesus with the heart. These days as we experience a renewal of

    eucharistic adoration, those who come to spend time in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament are receiving spiritual communion, even though

    they may not have called it by that name.

    Prayer of Spiritual Communion “My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the

    Blessed Sacrament. I love you above all things and I desire you with all my heart.

    Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, I ask you to come spiritually into my heart.

    I embrace you as if you were already in my heart and unite myself to you completely.Please do not let me ever by separated from you.”

    First Reading Ezekeil 33:7-9 Thus says the LORD: You, son of man, I have appointed watchman for the house of Israel; when you hear me say anything, you shall warn them for me. If I tell the wicked, “O wicked one, you shall sure-ly die, ”and you do not speak out to dissuade the wicked from his way, the wicked shall die for his guilt, but I will hold you responsible for his death. But if you warn the wicked, trying to turn him from his way, and he refuses to turn from his way, he shall die for his guilt, but you shall save yourself. Responsorial Psalm Second Reading Romans 13:8-10 Brothers and sisters: Owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.     The CYO Basketball program is highly competitive, open to Catholic boys and girls attending grades 3 through 8 and “registered” as Holy Family members. Due to Covid this season will begin with games on January 10, 2021 to February 14. Playoffs follow and run to the end of February. If you wish to register your child then please email Athletic Director, Bob Wilkinson at [email protected] on or before October 16, 2020 with your full name, child’s full name and your email address and cell phone number. A registration form will be emailed to you. All prospective players will return completed registration forms and required documentation no later than October 30, 2020. For ALL registrations after this date a late fee of $25 will be imposed. This will also apply to all documentation received after No-vember 6! Please note: (Registration is required ONLY FOR NEW PLAYERS. Returning players DO NOT need to register. Fees will be col-lected by your respective coaches and you will be notified about that at a later date.) Registration fee is $135.00 per player with a maximum of $200 per family. As first year players entering the CYO Basketball pro-gram offered by Holy Family Parish, you MUST provide a copy of each child's Baptismal Certificate at the time of enrollment. The copy (no originals, please) will be retained with the CYO records for future periods. If there are too many registrants in any particular age / grade group, separate teams may be formed or tryouts will be required to manage the number of players per team. A team of at least 10 players is required at all levels! Coaches will be selected based upon players registered.
