founder of the company, bought a .70-acre lot

for a spec home, to show-off what kind of archi-tecture and design Tennessee Log and TimberHomes Inc. could put into a custom project.

Burton brought wife Liz, daughter Adrienne,12, and son Dexter Jr., 8, to the resort for t he rsttime in 2004. It became a Christmas tradition forthe Webbs to spend the holidays in Tamarack, their kids learning to ski at the ski school and thefamily spending their days together on the slopes. They were quickly captivated by the lifestyle of

Valley County and the kindness of the residents. The people is what made us want to be here.Theyre the same people we met four years ago.Its a great community, Burton says. We lovethat everyone we met are not out here for t he 300stores like in Aspen (Colorado). Theyre here fortheir health, the recreation.

We said forget the spec home. We want tohave a home here.

And so began their three-year, cross-country labor of love, building theirhome-away-from-home in Tamarack,Idaho. What started out as a businessplan had morphed into a personalproject for the Webbs, gravy on

the burgeoning home building booming forTennessee Log and Timber Homes Inc. in thearea. The Webbs home is the fourth project inTamaracks growing real estate side to have been

built through Tennessee Log and TimberHomes Inc. The 30-year-old businessBurtons father started in the 70s tappedinto Valley Countys home-building mar-ket 10 years ago. Since, over 50 homeshave been built in the area.

The company pre-packages the logs inTennessee, spending six weeks engi-neering the cuts and joints. The logsare shipped to the home destination,

where Tennessee Log and Timber HomesInc. taps into their trusted contractornetwork for assembly and constructionof the home.

But homes are far from a modern-dayLincoln Log set-up. The company sells anentire structural package, giving designexibility to the home owner. When wesimply saw the word log, 93 percent

of the homeowners want nothing to dowith it, Burton says. Thats because of agrowing trend to customize a mountainhome with nature.

For this reason, Tennessee Log andTimber Homes Inc. created a new divi-sion of t he company: Natural ElementsHomes. These houses use a unique andpopular hybrid construction method, combining log, timber, stone and even

various other elements like brick andreclaimed materials in the homes de-sign. Most homes at Tamarack follow thehybrid method.

Its basic, mountain design. Architec-ture that could be shipped everywhere the golf course, the mountains, thelakes, Burton explains.

Lucky for for the Webbs, theyhave all of that right out theirfront door.

The views from the Webbshome, complete with oor-to-ceiling windows throughout,

are hypnotic. They enjoy an unob-structed shot of the lake, the edge ofthe golf course, protected wetlands thatsurround the property and mountainand cross-country trails literally rightout their back door. Its magical. Its atotally different feel, says Liz, pointingto the snow-capped Evergreens.

But the best part, Liz says: Sharing itwith our friends.

Since the home was completed in De-cember, the Webbs have already playedhost to various house guests, dragging

the snow-shy to the Nordic trails roughly15 feet from their kitchen window. Lizadds shell strap them in some boots andskis, guide them by the elbow and watchthem take-off.

Its after such a long day outside thatLiz wanted guests to come to the houseand really feel pampered. Her focus wason the bathrooms, each with a uniquedesign, color scheme and over-the-top features. Large steam showers arein each and the custom tile design isbreathtaking. Liz had shared her con-cepts with their Idaho-based contractorand Colorado-based interior designer, but they went above and beyond.

The rst of three guest rooms featuresa massive steam shower and a Japanesesoaking tub. The second has a teak tub.

But the third, the guest master suite, isa room where Liz took a keen interest. The private-entrance room is large, witha sun-sitting room, a king-sized nickelbed and deep purple walls the color ofthe mountains at sunset. The bathroomhas heated Italian white marble oors, amatching tub and crystal hardware.

If someone came here all the wayfrom Tennessee, I wanted their stay to be

worth it, Liz says. Our goal with thisroom was a winter wonderland. If some-one stayed in that room, they wouldreally feel special.

The master bathroom also givesBurton and Liz their own spa-treatment.Onyx tile sinks match a large Egyptiantub inset into the ground. The kids enjoya double-sink bathroom highlighted with

lime green, a playful settinShrek bathroom.

The custom tile is the wbased tile setter Sil Dina, wTile and Stone. Hes been tile work for 12-13 years a

with an architect on the Etub. We pretty much had in the ground and it was cfrom the ground up, Sil s

work. The way Id summarize it, hesays of the house: Manhattan loft in the

woods.Adding to that urban feel is the art-

work the Webbs decorated with, all Ten-nessee artists. They brought with themsome unique, eclectic design elementssays Cheryl Teed, administrative assis-tant for Lonesome Dove Construction, the local contractors that worked on t hehome. You have a whole lot of dif ferentfeelings in this one great big house, yet itall comes together.

he variety of different designelements is a trademark ofthe Tennessee Logging Homeshybrid look. The Webbs log-timber framed base home

was one of three designs theWebbs circulated through before choos-ing their ve bedroom, ve full and twohalf bathroom model. The walnut oorsare from New Hampshire, the woodbeams from Canada and the door hard-

ware from England. But, if you ask the kids, its the

bathrooms that are the coolest. Thentheres the snow, which they do notget to see in Tennessee. The kids, both

competitive swimmers, are now experi-enced skiers as well after their numerousTamarack winters.

Its not easy to get out here from

Tennessee. Which we kind of like, saysBurton.

Adds daughter Adrienne: Whenyoure on that road and the trees are sur-rounding you, it almost feels like youre

in a page on a book.Heaven forbid the Webbs guests

stay at a hotel during a Valley Countyvisit. Come to their place and Burtonwill greet you warmly with a gentlesmile, Adrienne will be happy to give atour of the decadent bathrooms, Dextercan entertain while jamming on GuitarHero, Liz will impress with her South-ern charm and, if youre lucky, cook upsome apjacks. That is, of course, if theyhavent beaten you to the slopes.
