Our students are involved in activities that support our wider community, and are in turn supported by the community at large. One of the areas that help show our pride in ourselves, our school and our community is how we wear our school uniform. We have high expectations of our students to come to school in full uniform. This includes black leather school shoes, the correct warm weather tops and no track pants except on sport days. Over time, uniform compliance can slip, and this can then negatively impact other areas of school. It is vital that we have support from our families in ensuring their students come to school in uniform, or have a note to explain why the uniform is not correct, and when it will be rectified. Students then bring this note to the office and are given an ‘out of uniform slip’ that they can show their teachers in class. Being out of uniform can also mean not having access to some practical subjects because of safety requirements. This can end up causing teachers to have less time for the class as they have to deal with students out of uniform and provide different work for them. As a school, our response is to give students and families time to get all the appropriate uniform items for the student, and then start dealing with lack of uniform by contacting home and dealing with students that refuse to comply with the uniform requirements as a discipline issue. At our school, our school community through our P&C have stipulated that a uniform is mandatory, and therefore as a school we have a responsibility to enforce that expectation. Our P&C are conducting a survey about school uniform to help them decide about items that may need to be added, changed or kept the same. Please complete the survey below to help inform those decisions. The survey will be open until Friday this week (20th September). Breakfast will be served from 8:30am-8:50am on those days, with Vegemite, Cheese and Vegemite and Cheese Toasted Sandwiches available. This wonderful initiative is proudly Sponsored/Supported by Crookwell IGA, allowing us to provide breakfast free of charge. A huge thank you to the IGA and Ms Romer for making this happen. Last week we had a special emphasis on mental and physical health and wellbeing on RUOK Day. We had a range of sporting and wellbeing activities as well as guest speaker Nathan Hulls, who spoke about what each individual can do to do their very best and overcome adversity. Huge thanks to Mrs Maher, our SRC and Wellbeing Team for making it such a great day. On assembly today, we were visited by Year 6 students for their final taster lessons. Next term, we have an Orientation Day as our next step in the transition process. Our SRC have been nominating a student each week to be Student of the Week. Congratulations to Braith Stephenson who was selected for this week. This week we farewell one of our school administrative assistants who has been with us for the last 12 months in a variety of roles, not the least of which has been having responsibility to put together this newsletter. She has done every role we have asked of her at a very high level and we will be sad to see her go. A huge thank you to Christine Raglus. We wish you happiness and success in your move! These are just some of the topics our Years 7, 8 and 9 Debating Teams had to engage with in this year’s Premier’s Debating Challenge.
Crookwell High School debated teams from Mulwaree and Bowral High School, and received guidance from adjudicator Julian Davies. Mr Davies was also kind enough to run a debating workshop for our Years 7 and 8 teams, many of whom had not debated before. The teams displayed great team work, good humour and critical thinking in all their debates.
Both our Year 7 and 9 team placed second in their zone.
We are really pleased at the growing strength of our debating teams, both in enthusiasm and skill and we look forward to continuing our participation in the Premier’s Debating Competition next year.
WW1 Living History ShowYear 8 and 9 students were educated and entertained by Shane Blackman and his travelling World War I interactive show WW1 Living History.
Students learned about the experiences and equipment used in the trenches by Australian soldiers and were given the opportunity to handle and examine some of the artefacts at close hand.
Students will find the day useful in their study of Australians at War, a compulsory component of the History syllabus in Year 9.
News from Tabletop GamingWe have started a Beyblade Group within the Tabletop Gamers with the idea to start a competition next term. Big thank you to Raymond Hawkless for his leadership in getting this started and teaching new players with the help of Reuben Hunt and Josh Thorn.
After a lot of thought and discussion the Tabletop Gamers banner was unveiled to the world at our MADD Night display. Thank you to all students involved in building parts of the display.
Students have been recycling trash to turn into gaming tables. Students took apart an old toy castle, some packing foam and some old paint and have turned it into a light up rush/ skirmish table to go with some donated models.
Students have been practicing hard for the upcoming invitational Underworlds Competition being held next term.

SCHOOL CRICKET CUP HELPERS Ninteen CHS students spent the day at Todkill park on Tuesday. They were coaches, scorers and umpires for the primary school students of Crookwell. Fun was had by all, topped off with free Woolworths bags full of goodies, like fruit.
• Wheel Chair Basketball Roadshow is coming in Week 10. Please give a gold coin donation next Wednesday!
• Thank you to everyone who celebrated National HPE and RUOK day! Thank you to Amelia and Mikeely for presenting and to all students who became actively involved in Brain Breaks which were run throughout the day and to all who participated in the Teacher vs Student basketball game. Well done teachers on the win!
• Thank you to all cricket helpers. It was a great day and the primary school students thoroughly enjoyed your leadership and expertise in cricket.

RUOK DAY & NATIONAL HPE DAY
Last Thursday students at CHS celebrated the importance of living active, healthy lifestyles and how this can lead to positive mental health. A fun filled Teacher vs Student Basketball game encouraged laughter and participation. Students engaged with motivational speaker Nathan Hulls who highlighted the importance of ‘being the best version of you’ and that we all have our own ups and downs; if we ask others RUOK? consequently, positivity will come around when you need it.
As part of the HPE celebrations, CHS created a video to promote healthy lifestyle. Check it out on our Facebook page and see if you can find yourself in it.
Students have started the making of an Aboriginal Mural for the school. With the help of Monica Bridge, Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer, they have started the first layer.
They will continue with this project over time, layer by layer. Stay tuned for more updates.
