Special Projects in 3V

The students of 3V have been asked to complete a project on anything they want!

They can either choose a subject that is something they love and know a lot about or they can choose something that interests them that they’d like to research. The students then also have to present their project in front of the class.

Sam is the first student to complete his project and he has chosen a topic to

research, ‘Igloos’. Some questions that Sam answered in his project include: What is an igloo? How is an igloo made? How comfortable is an igloo? He also looked at the different types of igloos. We’re looking forward to seeing what topics everyone else has chosen.

Technology Update

Students lately have been working on some interesting activities in technology. Last term the Stage 2 & 3 classes used presentation software to develop a project on the Olympics. They had the choice of using Power Point, Smart Notebook (which is the program that is used on our Interactive Whiteboards) and Prezi which is internet presentation software. Students have also been starting to use Adobe Photoshop to manipulate images. So far we have been using the filters to manipulate images and using a series of photographs to create a panorama.

At this week’s Whole School Assembly some students will be presenting their projects.

Kindergarten, Year 1 & Year 2 children have become very good at logging onto the computers using their name and password. Kindergarten is now excellent at this and is having a great time exploring the learning in their portals. Kindergarten, Year 1 & Year 2 have also been working in email and ensuring their signature texts are beautiful.

When students are at home they are able to log onto their portals. Just type in this address: http://student.det.nsw.edu.au

Students then will need to log on using their logon name and password. Our school website has lots of help and ideas about technology in our school and how you can work with your child in this area. In particular there is a list of Apps that we use to reinforce the classroom learning as well as other computer safety and best practice ideas.

Phil Osborn

Hello everyone. The project I decided to do was about igloos. With the help of my dad, I made this igloo. The igloo has been constructed out of about 120 sugar cubes and we used pre packaged icing to stick the sugar cubes together. I researched how to make a model igloo on You Tube and I found many helpful tips and ideas on how to make my igloo.

Here’s a sample of what Sam had to say in his project.
