THE VALIDATED WELL HEADER (VWH) AND DIRECTIONAL SURVEY PLUS (DS+) PROGRAM

Start exploring now with complete data you can trust

Leave the data aggregation to us, so you can spend your time and energy on real exploration analysis. TGS has validated hundreds of thousands of well headers and directional surveys across key areas of the U.S. That means we have accurate, big-picture data that you can act on now. Plus you can gain powerful advantages as we validate the remaining wells to achieve complete US coverage.

When you partner with TGS you have more effective ways to eliminate risks in your exploration program – risks that can threaten your budget, your schedule, and your environmental record. Additionally, program participants enjoy sizable discounts, perpetual license and database maintenance. We give you the right data, in the right place, at the right time, so you can see a clearer picture, and make better decisions.

Well Planning

A common header provides the link to specific wellbore data for master data management

Geoscientists can move straight into analysis, instead of aggregating data

Increases productivity and shortens the path to first production

Helps to strengthen integrated development planning

Operations/ Production

Well placement and spacing is optimized for increased IRR

- Lower discovery costs and higher success rates

- Better drilling and completion efficiencies

- Minimized drilling costs by getting it right the first time

- Increased probability for hitting the sweet spot and maximizing recovery

 Drilling risks dramatically reduced

- Know the profiles of all surrounding wellbores so you can avoid them

- Gain visibility into long laterals and be ready for regulatory shifts requiring area mapping around well sites

- Prevent the multi-million dollar mistake of damaging existing wellbores, resulting in repair and re-drilling costs, lost time and lost production

Insurance and Environment

The VWH and DS+ program is a powerful risk-management tool, giving you a comprehensive and proactive approach that improves both your insurance and environmental profiles.

Minimize drilling footprint, well incidents and environmental impact

Strengthen insurance status relating to business interruption, workers compensation, well control and pollution liability

Support regulatory and compliance factors, particularly if new requirements established in California are adopted in other states

Mitigate the risks of a major well incident, which can have

significant reputation and financial impacts

Improved Shareholder Returns

Cost savings and better well economics directly benefit shareholders

Strengthen your leadership position and create value in relation

to discovery costs, success rates and exploration IRR

Millions of wells = limitless advantagesTGS plans to complete the entire US database by 2019, which will include over 5.7 million Validated Well Headers and potentially 500,000 Directional Survey Plus profiles. We are well on our way, thanks to the partnership of some visionary exploration companies. Your company should be the next.

As a program participant you will receive a significant discount, with payments spread over multiple years. You will retain your data license in perpetuity. And you will have a maintenance program that is exclusive to participants. Let’s explore the opportunities.

PUBLICLY AVAILABLE DATA

Just one example of TGS Validated Data

Texas RRC GIS Map shows surface vertical hole and two horizontal wellbores highlighted in blue.

Texas RRC system shows five permits, one original vertical drill, one vertical deepening, and three horizontal recompletions.

TGS DATA

The TGS Validation process identified nine wellbores

TGS found the vertical drill, vertical deepening and seven sidetracks. Directional surveys were found on seven wellbores. Surveys were not run on two sidetracks as they were aborted attempts to drill laterals.

The Validation process uses all available documentation to determine drilling events. Program participants receive access to all documents used in the creation of the Validated Well Header via the TGS Longbow application.

The Validated Well Header also provides an ortho-rectified surface well location, accurate bottom hole locations calculated from directional surveys, and verified ground elevations using Digital Elevation Models.

SUPERIOR WELL PATH CONTROL

Program participants receive a Validated Well Header for all well bores identified, combined with the critical spatial positioning of the wellbore defined by Directional Survey Plus (DS+). Defining the well path begins with an accurate validated surface location and a verified reference elevation from the VWH.

Do you know where your wellbore is?

Are your logs tied to the correct wellbore?

Will your well plan provide a safe pathway to the target?

Do you have enough confidence in existing wellbore positions so any possibility of a collision on the pathway to your target is eliminated?

In the US, 15-20% of drilled wellbores are missing from all well data sources. TGS recognizes the importance of all wellbores being recognized and made available to industry, and has created DS+ to address this need.

TGS’ DS+ provides superior well path control with data that is thoroughly researched, re-processed and standardized to create the most accurate spatial representation of the well path from surface to TD.

DS+ data goes beyond the simple capture of measured depth, azimuth and inclination. Well paths just ‘keyed’ in from directional surveys may look impressive, but a high percentage of the time the well is not in the right place.

TGS captures all station/points and extensive ‘run’ data fields necessary for the spatial positioning of the well (that states and other vendors do not). All depth information is checked for accuracy by comparing input values with system calculated values. DS+ data is standardized to the same North reference, same zone (if grid referenced), same datum, and same units of measure to plot correctly. These references routinely come unstandardized from survey contractors.
