Type B Vertical DPC TrayuseProvides vertical DPC element to existing cavitywall.

introductionThe Type B semi-rigid vertical cavitray may beintroduced into the existing exterior skin of a cavitywall following vertical cutting of the masonry toprovide a 4mm slot.The Type B establishes a permanent DPCpresence. Addressing this vertical requirement inaddition to any horizontal requirement (see Type E)is important where a skin changes status by virtueof an extension being added to an existingstructure. Where metal profile links are employedto attach masonry and the existing wall is not cut-out to create T-junction cavity continuity, the Type B approachcan introduce DPC integrity.See separate page entry for Cavilinks.

Type BA Barrier ArchuseProvides a moulded DPC barrier only for arches,thus permitting traditional construction. (Unliketype A/AA which also provide integral guideshuttering.)

introductionThe type BA barrier arch is a DPC, supplied ready-shaped to suit the arch opening. The type BA isincorporated within the cavity wall with its basesection positioned on the traditional centring. Thebarrier arch DPC is normally returned into theinside skin, at the appropriate level. The type BAdoes not offer the formwork function of the typeA/AA cavitrays but does provide a correctlyshaped DPC, with a moulded base section, whilstpermitting traditional construction. The type BA isparticularly appropriate for wide arches becauseit can be supplied in connecting sections.

Because Type C cavitrays are profiled from rigidsolid DPC, they support themselves. They do notrequired building into the inside skin. Self-supporting Type C cavitrays can thus beused with either traditional or timber frameconstruction. Alternatively, if a return into theinside skin is desired, it can be provided uponrequest. Trays can be supplied for anydesignated cavity width and are biased-formedto take-up the actual cavity encountered.

Type C CavitrayuseA range of preformed, ready-shaped DPCcavitrays for use with proprietary metal lintels.Also suitable for use with cast in-situ, prestressedand precast concrete lintels.

introductionType C cavitrays provide a harmonising yetindependent DPC tray for all lintel openings.Manufactured from solid DPC, Type C cavitraysare pre-shaped to suit customer’s specificconstruction needs. Being pre-shaped means theinstaller establishes exactly what is being built intothe cavity wall, whilst eliminating the dangers ofdistortion and misplacement. Wastage is alsoeliminated as Type C lengths can be scheduled tosuit the build programme. All shapes, sizes andprofiles available. Type C cavitrays are compatiblewith our stopends and perp weep/vents. Profilesavailable to suit Catnic, Keystone, I.G., Hill Smith,Birtley, Bat and other popular lintels including allconcrete lintels.

introductionOur facilities now include production of curvedcavitrays for three horizontal applications: Common openings in cavity walls, over windowand door openings. Arresting barriers to protectthe top of cavity insulation that does not rise to aheight to match the overall wall. Curved trays foruse where DPC protection is required at ahorizontal intersection. Trays are manufactured ona bespoke basis and we will be delighted to takeoff and schedule your requirements.

Typical examples of some profiles. Type C cavitrays aresuitable for use with a variety of lintels. The profile of eachType C may finish against the inside skin, or alternatively bebuilt into the inside skin. This second option can necessitateuse of a larger profile to marry with the course height.Always stipulate which version you require.

The new BS 5628-3:2005stipulates “the cavity trayshould step down or slopeacross the cavity not lessthan 150mm towards theexternal leaf and,preferably, terminate in asmall drip on the face ofthe wall”. The use ofpreformed Type C cavitraysprovides an assuredmethod of compliance.

The Type C is self-supporting. There is noneed to build into theinner skin. However, aninner skin return option isavailable on request.(shown dotted).

Cavicloak PreformedDamp CoursesusePreformed moulded cavicloaks for use withincavity walls. Cavicloaks are shaped to exactly fitthe construction detail intended. Cavicloaks areoffered in a wide range of standard sizes. Also tailor-made to suit specific applications.

introductionThe use of preformed cavicloaks eliminates theneed to fabricate on site. The ready-moulded unitsprovide correctly fitting, harmonising componentswhich ensure DPC integrity to features such ascorners, columns, steps and angles. Moulded fromsolid DPC, the preformed cloaks offer flexibilitywithout sagging or distorting. Options include theself-supporting upstand terminating within thecavity or alternatively returning into the inside skin,depending on application.

Type CD CavityDropcloaksuseTo prevent damp penetration via a masonryfeature within an external skin, withoutenvelopment within that skin. Thus structuralintegrity is unaffected and masonry mass ismaintained.

introductionArchitectural masonry features such as dentils,running break stones or stringcourses often restrict,reduce or interrupt the cavity plane. Thus it is always desirable to minimise and protectagainst the affects of any volume wash of wateraround such features. If such masonry featuresoccur towards the top of a cavity wall, any dpc in theexternal skin separates the masonry below from themasonry above. The bonding is broken and themasonry mass is isolated. The external skin isweakened at the very point where it should ideallybe strengthened.Type CD Cavity Dropcloaks can eliminate suchproblems. Dropcloaks are preformed dpc sectionsmoulded in petheleyne biased to take-up a widerange of cavity dimensions. Type CD Dropcloaks donot break or affect the bonding of the external skin.Structural stability is enhanced rather than reduced,weakened or isolated. Cloaking to guard against

damp transmission is achieved dropping from theinner leaf only, but protecting from damp in theouter leaf.

introductionThe Cavilintel is designed for use with cavity walls.Unlike a conventional lintel, the Cavilintelincorporates a roller shutter within its box design.Electrically operated with an internal manualoverride facility, the shutter descends to protect thedoor or window opening under. The Cavilintelpackage includes shutter guides that are built intothe cavity wall reveals. The shutter ends are thusretained within the channels behind the externalmasonry skin. The Cavilintel is additionallyaccompanied with insulation and damp protectioncavitrays at head and sill level, and provides acomplete opening package. Developer may offercustomers additional security of openingsimmediately or benefit of upgrading at a laterdate.

Caviroll Premium DPCuseGeneral purpose DPC suitable for horizontal andvertical damp proofing of cavity walls.

introductionPremium Caviroll DPC is manufactured from solidpolyethylene which conforms with BS6515. Itpromotes excellent tensile strength and retainsflexibility through a temperature range of minus50 degrees up to plus 80 degrees centigrade.Premium Caviroll DPC is a homogeneousmaterial, possessing superior waterimpermeability. Both sides of the DPC have agripgrid surface to promote adhesion and unitywith the mortar. Premium Caviroll DPC is a cleanand easy to handle material. It is tough, flexibleand suitable for use as a general purpose rolldamp-proof course.

Type E CavitrayuseTo introduce a horizontal DPC at roof intersectionlevel in an outside wall which has become an insidewall, by virtue of an extension being built.

introductionThe Type E is a preformed DPC cavitray which isinserted into an existing cavity wall. The Type Erequires only one course of bricks to be disturbed,with just a few bricks removed at any time. The self-contained Type E cavitrays are the lengthof two bricks, and clip together, so long runs areeasily and quickly created. Preformed angles caterfor corners and piers. Each unit has stand-alonedischarge via a weep. Suitable for all popularcavity widths because the cavity upstand of theType E is hinged and adjusts to always suit the ‘as-found’ cavity width.

eliminates gluing, sticking or overlapping.• Shape and depth of projecting lip prevents

Step 2 - One cavitray is insertedtogether with the flashing intendedfor dressing over the skirting of theroof finish (flashing approx 50mminto wall). Lead flashing is notrequired in most remedialapplications.

Step 3 - Two bricks are replaced in thewall into the cavitray. They are jointedand securely slate pinned, leaving thewall above safe and firm. A weepvent is incorporated in themiddle perp. Two more bricks areremoved again forming a three brickspace. The flashing is extended and asecond cavitray inserted. The integral Uclip joins the trays, ensuring that nowater can penetrate. Two more bricksare inserted and a weephole againformed. There are now two adjoiningbut completely self-contained cavitrays.The method is continued until therequired run is completed. (Always bedon mortar. Do not dry bed.)

Type E RemedialuseTo introduce an effective DPC into an existingcavity wall in which the original high level dampproofing element has been omitted, damaged,incorrectly formed or is suspect/faulty.

introductionWhen dampness is experienced at a horizontalintersection, roof junction, ringbeam or over awindow or door opening, the Type E may be usedand introduced as a remedial DPC, to arrest thepenetrating rain water. Type E cavitrays may besupplied in various lengths, widths and depths.Therefore the external skin masonry moduleencountered on site may be matched.Long runs of trays are easily created, whilstmaintaining self-contained and stand-alone status.Installation is from the outside of the building only.

cavity width 50mm to 140mm.• Minimum masonry disturbance.

Type E cavitrays used without flashing, over an existingopening where the original damp course has failed or hasbeen omitted. The exact course in which the cavitray isintroduced varies depending on the construction detail.

The Type E is available in an infinitechoice of widths and lengths.

Type F CorrugatedFlashinguseCorrugated flashing suitable for use with plasticroof sheets only.

introductionThe new Type F corrugated flashing units can beused on porches, lean-tos, outhouses,conservatories or temporary structures havinglightweight translucent corrugated roof sheeting.The Type F flashing unit incorporates a uniqueintegral hinge, usually making it suitable for anyangle of roof from 17.5 degrees up to andincluding 60 degrees. The units are fixed simply bypositioning before securing the top of sheet fixings,which then hold the units in place. The Type F fits against the corrugations snugly,whilst the upstand springs to shape verticallyagainst the wall. The upstand can then be finishedoff with a flashing/cavitray.

Type FAS FlashingAnchoring StripuseTo secure flashing in position and ensure correctlinking with conventional DPC.

introductionThe FAS flashing anchoring and DPC integritysystem is designed to overcome problems whichcan occur where flashings are turned into walls ofbrick and stone, constructed with or without aconventional DPC material. Incorporated by thebricklayer whilst raising the wall, the Type FASprovides the facility for the flashing to be correctlylocated and secured at a later date, whilstpromoting the correct DPC/flashing relationship.The integral barbs grip the 25mm turn-in of theflashing and eliminate the need for lead wedges.When pointed with silicone sealant the jointaccommodates differences in thermal movementand prevents the cracking and falling out thatcommonly occurs when mortar is used in restrictedpointing applications.

Type GuseDPC system for general purpose applicationsincluding changes of level, diaphragm walls,roof intersections, building off the solid, etc.

introductionThe Type G is supplied in preformed lengths andpreformed angles. Long runs can be rapidly laidwith adjoining sections interlocking via integralstopends that coincide with masonry perp joints.All arrested water is discharged via caviweeps.The standard Type G profile suits cavity widthsfrom 50mm up to 140mm ands is available inlengths to suit masonry coursings. The Type G isusually supplied with a flashing alreadyattached or with an external bed lip. The Type Gis suitable for traditional and timber frameconstruction and cannot deform or misplace likeconventional roll dpc.

Type J Support and CloseruseProvides DPC support and closes cavity underparapet copings. Also provides means of closingcavity in open eaves and other eaves details.

introductionParapet construction requires a DPC immediatelyunder the coping. BS5628:Part 3 qualifies themanner in which the DPC must be supported. TheType J closer fulfils the requirements of the BritishStandard, and also the N.H.B.C. performancestandard, chapter 6.1, S4 (c) to (d). Theconventional cavity parapet is normallyterminated with copings, under which a DPC isbedded and positioned. The Type PWRB fulfils the requirements in a morecost-effective and functional manner. The barrierprojects upwardly in the cavity to provide protection,rather than vice-versa (that necessitates work to theslab to provide a channel to falls). introductionThe beak weep provides an alternative way ofreleasing penetrating water from lintels and cavitytrays installed within a cavity wall.The beak weep matches the height of a standardperp joint, but has a reduced front section (beak)shaped to be almost indistinguishable from themortar joint.The beak is finished in glass-clear polypropylene,and successfully merges with all colours of mortarand masonry making the beak weep unobtrusiveand difficult to detect. The discharge outlet is onthe beak underside, permitting water and particledebris to wash through and drop from the outlet.This shape also protects against wind-driven rain.

introductionEvery stepped and every staggered gableabutment must be so constructed to preventrainwater and dampness from penetrating belowthe abutting roof line. This is because the externalskin changes status below the roof line andbecomes an internal skin. The system fulfils threebasic requirements:1 It prevents dampness from penetrating belowthe critical stepped roof line.2 It externally weatherproofs and flashes thephysical roof/masonry intersection.3 It also prevents the inside skin from becomingdamp.The high performance Type X cavitray speeds upoperations on site and ensures a good and knownquality of build. Type X trays are handed, to suit lefthand slopes and right hand slopes. Every tray is aself-contained unit, with its own ready-shapedlead flashing attached. Select long leads to dressdirectly over tiles, or alternatively short leads todress over the upstand of a secret gutter or soaker.

Unlike other systems, the Type X has anadjustable cavity upstand so it always suits theactual cavity width and is therefore alwayscompatible. Just bed in position and flush pointas the external skin is raised. At a later date thelead flashing may be dressed.

Type H CavicloseruseThe Type H cavicloser is the first specificallydesigned universal cavicloser. It permits openingsin cavity walls to be quickly closed in a uniform,standardised manner.

introductionThe labour intensive necessity of cutting blocks andreturning the masonry to form the reveal iseliminated. The Type H cavicloser is an insulated,structurally enveloped member, which literally fillsthe gap to form the cavity wall reveal. At the sametime, the Type H insulates the reveal, minimising coldbridging. The vertical DPC requirement is created atthe same time. The Type H cavicloser is universal asits unique two-part design permits permutations toaccommodate different sized cavities and differentframe positions. The Type H benefits the contractorin terms of speed, regulation compliance, versatilityand quality of build. Being universal means moststyles of openings can be closed using the standardsized cavicloser. Building costs are reduced.

introduction The Quickcloser provides an alternative methodof closing cavity wall reveals in new-buildconstruction. It may also be employed toregularise open reveals or reveals uncoveredduring refurbishment and improvement works.The insulating medium is flexible, and containedwithin a sleeve that can be squeezed to shape tofill the cavity snugly, eliminating voids. At thesame time the Quickcloser acts as a DPC,eliminating the need for a conventional verticaldamp course. This closer utilises full-fill cavityinsulation in a sleeve that is worked to optimumshape by the installer whilst raising the cavitywall. Suitable for cavities from 40mm up to100mm.

introductionThe new Type V Contract Closer provides aneconomical way of closing cavity wall reveals.Manufactured from PVCU, the Type V is a one partcloser consisting of a ribbed face section whichspans the open cavity and overlays the inner andouter skins of masonry. Secured behind this face is aclosed cell insulating core, which is accommodatedwithin the cavity. Integral slots to both sides of thecapillary-break V shaped core housing, accept tiesand secure the closer to the masonry skins. The newType V Contract Closer permits frames to be fitted inany position within the depth of the reveal.

Type RC Refurbishment CloseruseFor insertion into existing open cavities toinstantly upgrade structures when replacingwindow and doorframes.

introductionThe Type RC Refurbishment Cavicloser fills thegap exposed when a window or doorframe isremoved from a cavity wall that has not been‘closed’. This status is regularly encounteredduring door and window replacement schemes.The Type RC has a rigid faceplate to which isattached a compressible polythene sleevecontaining a flexible insulating medium. Thisflexibility permits the sleeve to be compressed andeasily introduced into an open cavity. As thecompression releases the sleeve expands to takeup the cavity width encountered. In addition to thethermal zoning of the reveal, there are acousticbenefits, as the insulating medium interrupts thedirect sound path that previously existed where theframe meets the cavity. The Type RC supersedesthe original Type O. It is supplied in 2400mmlengths and may be used in applications where theexposed cavity width is between 40mm – 100mm.
