The Ascension of the Lord St. Ann Catholic Church May 13, 2018

Dear Friends, The celebration of the Ascension is a celebration of the culmination of our Lord’s redeeming work here on earth, and it is the final glorification of Christ in His humanity before the Second Coming. Consider what we celebrate: not simply the Son of God ascending to heaven - because as God, He never was absent from heaven - but the first entrance of our human nature, our human flesh into heaven. Before Christ died, rose from the dead, and ascended into heaven, human nature could not enter into Paradise. Now we have a concrete hope and sign of our own ascension into glory - body and soul - on the Last Day!

What an amazing event! Christ and His Blessed Mother are now present bodily in eternal glory. The Apostles were left looking heavenward - and that is indeed where our hearts should reside. In the Mass, the priest exhorts you to “lift up your hearts!” This is how the Christian should always live, with hope. Of course, the Apostles were then told to carry on with their mission of evangelizing the world, not staring with mouths agape at the sky. We too must fulfill our daily obligations, the demands of our vocations, and the daily tasks which burden us here be-low, but even though we are not liter-ally looking heavenward, we should always be living in hope of that day where we will behold Christ in His glorified humanity. In Christ, Fr Marotti

QUESTION: What’s the deal with the pipe organ? ANSWER: After the human voice, the pipe organ is the ideal liturgi-cal instrument, since it was made to mimic and support the human voice. For this reason, the Church has always asked that it be given pride of place in liturgical celebrations with Sacred Music.

Some people are concerned that it will be too loud, but I ask that everyone keep a couple of things in mind:

1. It will certainly have a fuller sound, since you will be hearing the pipes themselves, not focused through a sound system. More like hearing live music, rather than a recording. So please do not confuse volume with richness or fullness of sound.

2. Most people have experienced organ music at cathedrals or large churches, where there is often music which is more complex and performance-like. We will not do this; in fact, we have made it very clear that we intend to use the pipe organ more softly, and for its original purpose: supporting the voice, not overwhelming it.

Do you have a question for Father Marotti about the Catholic faith or a Catholic practice? Email your question to [email protected].

Adult Faith Formation Summer Opportunity

Maybe summertime is a little more flexible and the Holy Spirit is calling you to explore your faith and maybe even meet some new folks at St. Ann. We hope you will pray about and consider joining a group here at the parish to look at the contemporary issue of the lack of absolute moral truth (relativism); and ways to defend and live a more Catholic and classical of view morality that will lead to greater joy and hopefulness.

The plan is to meet every other week June through August beginning on Wednesday June 6 at 6:30 (complete schedule available on website) and watch a short video and then consider the challenges of our contemporary culture in light of the presen-tation. The material for the presentation is entitled, “Who am I to judge” authored by Dr. Edward Sri and available through the parish Formed subscription. You got a brief taste of this at the Pack the House session on April 25 that Steve Eilertson led. Steve is

willing to host these summer sessions and would love it if you would join us. The good news is that if you should have to miss a week you can still watch the video content at your home through Formed so even though you would miss the discussion you need not feel that you were out of the loop with content.

There is nothing to purchase but it would be lovely if you would contact Steve Eilertson at 269-615-9999 or the religious education office 731-0295 if you think you would like to plan to attend in case we want to plan for

a light snack we would know how much to prepare. Hope to see you on June 6 at 6:30pm

THE SISTERS ARE COMING, THE SISTERS ARE COMING

St. Ann appears to be on the very short list of parishes hosting the Sisters of Mary Mother of the Eucharist for Vacation Bible School again for 2018. We know it will be in the month of June but do not yet have the actual dates. In order to have the best possible experience for our students we are need of lots of adult and teen help to bring the week together. Adult helpers are needed for the basics (registration, snack prep, crowd control) Families are needed to host the sisters for meals (both lunch time and dinner time for most days Monday through Friday) and older teens are needed (classroom helpers with students). It is not too early to begin planning and if you think you might be able to help in organizing any aspect of this week please contact the Religious education office 731-0295 or Pat Vanderpool 967-7493 or by email [email protected]. Please join the team for VBS.
