Timeline & Procedures for The Resumption

Of Public Mass & Sacramental Life

• Regularly Scheduled Masses may resume the week of May 18

• Persons with health vulnerabilities are encouraged not to attend public Mass;

• Persons who are sick or feel sick MUST NOT attend public Mass;

• The obligation to participate in Sunday Mass remains suspended thus no sin is incurred.

• Persons are encouraged to take their own temperature before leaving to attend Mass and not come

to church if their temperature is 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or above per CDC guidelines.

• People should bring their own masks and are encouraged to wear them at least when safe distancing may not be possible. Masks will NOT be worn while receiving communion.

• Every other row will not be used to guarantee safe distancing.

• Couples and families may sit together but there must be six feet between each group.

• People are asked to bring wipes or spray to disinfect pews upon entering and leaving

• Please disinfect your hands on the way into and out of church

• In place of the usual manner of taking collections, baskets will be placed at the entrances

• The invitation to exchange a sign of peace will be omitted.

• Hand holding or shaking hands is prohibited during public Masses

• Parishioners should disinfect their hands before getting into the communion procession.

• A six-foot distance needs to be kept between communicants (except for couples and families)

• Communion will be available ON THE HAND and the sharing of the Cup is suspended.

• Communion Ministers must visibly disinfect their hands just prior to distributing communion

• Communion Ministers WILL wear masks while distributing communion

Implementing These Procedures at St. Andrew’s

On the first Sunday we return to Mass, please expect things to be different due to the requirements of safe distancing.

• We will not be able to do the usual visiting in the commons before and after Mass

• We will not be able to just enter the church and sit where we usually sit, since we are only able to use one third of our seating capacity.

• Ushers will have been trained to seat families, couples, and individuals who have let us know in advance the size of their groups.

• Every other row must be left empty.

• Seating must take into consideration that it is not safe to have people “climb” over others to get to their places. This means you may not be able to sit on the aisle. Special consideration will be given to individuals with impairments.

• Keep in mind that wearing masks means everyone may not recognize us which may make some people feel a little strange. Patience and kindness are the order of the day.

• The communion procession will be guided by ushers. Please wait until it’s your row’s turn and keep a safe distance from the people in front of you (except for couples and families)

The Good News is that on subsequent Sundays everyone be able to go to the place they were seated the first time. This too shall pass as we continue to pray for the end of this pandemic.

GRAND RE-OPENING

WELCOME HOME, CHURCH!

Beginning on Monday, May 18th, at 9am, Mass will be offered in the main church in accordance with restrictions and safeguards provided by Archbishop Coakley. Daily Mass participants are asked to take places at least six feet from other worshippers. Couples and family members may, of course, sit together. There ought to be few enough worshippers to enable seating closer to the altar. We ask you to bring a face covering with you and to use it to the extent you are comfortable but especially at times when a distance of six feet may not be achievable. DO NOT wear a face covering when receiving communion (of course). We will not be using hymnals since they could be sources of virus. Whatever music we will sing will be chosen from among pieces with which we are most familiar. We will have some sanitizer and disinfectant on hand but if you can bring some from home that would be helpful. The pews and other surfaces will be disinfected before and after Mass. Your assistance with this will be much appreciated. We will not be invited to share with one another a sign of peace nor will we join hands for the Lord’s prayer. Special directions will be given regarding the distribution of Communion. We are still working on making Baptismal water available since we have a circulating pump that keeps the water flowing. By adding a small quantity of chlorine any trace of virus should be eliminated. We will continue to Live Stream the Masses for the benefit of those who are not yet comfortable being out in public. The Archbishop has extended the suspension of the obligation to attend Mass until further notice. A more complete coverage of the Archbishop’s guidelines appears elsewhere in this bulletin.

Next meeting is May 26th All students in grades 6-12 are invited

Contact Mike Jaques or Lynn Yingling at [email protected] for access. Join us online via zoom for an hour of socialization and discussion and to connect with your parish community.

Great News for our Catechumens and Candidates and for the whole parish family. We will celebrate the Sacraments of Initiation for and with them on Pentecost Sunday. There will be one group at the 9am and another at the 11:45am. We are splitting the group up because of the limited seating in the church at this time. We want to make some seats available to family members.

YOUTH MINISTRY RENEWAL UNDERWAY

We have been conducting “virtual” Life Nights through the use of Zoom. While attendance has been lower than desired, those who have been attending are enjoying the opportunity of being together during this time of lockdown. We also conducted our first Youth & Young Adult Task Force meeting to begin looking at how we can improve our ministry with and for our younger members.

Taking the time to really identify what we are feeling can help you to better cope with challenging situations. People who are good at identifying and labeling their emotions are less likely to binge drink, be physically aggressive, or self-injure when distressed (https://mhanational.org/owning-your-feelings)

Allow yourself to feel. Sometimes there are societal pressures that encourage people to shut down their emotions, often expressed through statements like, “Big girls don’t cry,” or “Man up.” These outdated ideas are harmful, not helpful. Everyone has emotions-they are part of the human experience-and you have every right to feel them, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, socio-economic status, race, political affiliation or religion.

Don’t ignore how we are feeling. Most of us have heard the term “bottling up your feelings” before. When we try to push feelings aside without addressing them, they build strength and make us more likely to “explode” at some point in the future. It may not always be appropriate to process your emotions at the very moment you are feeling them but try to do so as soon as you can.

Talk it out. Find someone you trust that you can talk to about how we are feeling. You may find that people

are eager to share about similar experiences they’ve had or times that they have felt the way that you are feeling. This can be helpful, but if we are only interested in having someone listen, it’s okay to tell them that.

Build your emotional vocabulary. When asked about our feelings, most people will usually use words like bad, sad, mad, good, or fine. But at the root of “good, bad, sad, mad, or fine” are many words that better describe how we feel. Try building your emotional vocabulary by writing down as many “feeling” words as you can think of and think of a time that you felt that way.

Try journaling. Each night write down at least 3 feelings you had over the course of the day and what caused them. It doesn’t need to be a “Dear Diary” kind of thing. Just a few sentences or bullet points to help you practice being comfortable with identifying and expressing your emotions.

Consider the strength of your feelings. By thinking about how intense your emotions are, you may realize that what you thought you were feeling at first could better be described by another word. For instance, sometimes a person might say they are stressed when what they are really experiencing is something less severe like annoyance, alternatively anger might really be a stronger, deeper feeling like betrayal.

See a mental health professional. If you are taking steps to be more in touch with your feelings,

but are having trouble dealing with them, mental health providers like counselors and therapists have been trained to help. Some free or low-cost options are also available. Your employer might have an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) that offers a limited number of free counseling sessions, and your Human Resources department can help you access this resource. If you don’t have an EAP through work, the leaders of religious organizations like churches, synagogues and mosques often have experience with counseling.

Many of you took purple slips from the cross in the baptistry as Lent began. Each bore the name of an individual preparing to receive Easter Sacraments. We asked that you pray for them throughout Lent as they prepared to celebrate the Sacraments in Holy Week. Then along came the dreaded Covid-19 and the cancellation of all public liturgical celebrations through the end of May. So we encourage you to continue your prayers through the beginning weeks of the Easter Season until the dates for their Initiation can be announced. In the meantime, you might consider sending an Easter card to encourage them to be patient as they wait in joyful hope.
