CONTINUALLY PRAISING GOD In both the first reading and the Gospel we are told about Christ’s glorious ascension into heaven. Paul’s letter to the Ephesians reminds us that Christ has been seated at God’s right hand in heaven, above every choir of angels. There might be a temptation to stay at an awed distance from Jesus Christ. However, the tone of today’s readings is far from that temptation. The tone is exultant and the message is urgent. We are to be his witnesses, and the Gospel describes the first witnesses this way: “[W]ith great joy . . . they were continually in the temple praising God” (Luke 24:53). How can we continually praise God? The answer can be found in the second reading, in which Paul prays that God will give us a “Spirit of wisdom and revelation” in order to know Christ clearly (Ephesians 1:17). We cannot stand at a distance. We are to be enlightened and empowered. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

PARISH REGISTER

FINANCIAL REPORT

“Active” membership at a Parish enables a person to be eligible to sponsor a child for Baptism, to receive financial aid for Catholic Education, to be married in the Parish and to prepare one’s children for the Sacraments. To be an “active” member is to participate in the life of prayer and stewardship in the Parish. All adults over the age of 21, living with their parents or on their own, must register in the Parish to be considered members. The use of the offering envelopes may also help you to qualify for tax incentives. Participating in one or more of the ministries offered by the Parish is proof of the sharing of time and talent for the greater good of our Church Community. So please pick-up a registration form at the Parish Office, or print one from our website at www.stbarnabaslb.org.

For more information on St. Barnabas School’s upcoming events visit www.school.stbarnabaslb.org. The school, mindful of its mission to be a witness to the love of Christ for all, admits students regardless of race, color or national and/or ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available at the school. The school does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, disability, sex or national and/or ethnic origin in the administration of educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs, although certain athletic leagues and other pro-grams may limit participation and some archdiocesan schools operate as single sex schools. While the school does not discriminate against students with special needs, a full range of services may not always be available to them. Decisions concerning the admission and continued enrollment of a student in the school are based upon the student’s emotional, academic and physical abilities and the resources available to the school in meeting the student’s needs.

Local Archdiocese News

A Jesuit was out for a drive and crashed into another car, only to discover that the other driver was a Franciscan. “It was my fault,” each insisted-as is only right and proper with religious men. Concerned, the Jesuit said, “You look badly shaken up, Father. You could probably use a good stiff drink right now to calm down.” He produced a flask and the Franciscan drank from it and said, “Thank you, Father; I feel much better now. But you're probably shaken up too. Why don't you have a drink as well?” “I will,” the Jesuit replied, “but I think I'll wait until after the police have come.” THE BOOK OF CATHOLIC JOKES, by Deacon Tom Sheridan published by ACTA Publications, Chicago, Ill
