FROM THE SHED

We mourn the passing of a fine clubman in Andy Hart. Trevor has penned a short valete on page 4.

Andy would have appreciated my next comments on the sudden prevalence of concours bikes in the club. We were treated at the last meeting to trophies - real, glitzy ones - being handed out to three, yep 3, club members who had attended the Silverwater Show and Shine recently, admittedly a H@#$%ly show where classic BSAs would obviously “shine”. This is on top of previous awards at the CEMCC Engadine show.

Where we were once a club where owners and riders were happy to have “oily rag” machines, the standards appear to have been severely raised. This is a disturbing trend for, ahem, some of us. Are we going to see Victor polishing the Firebird? Or yours truly without an oily left boot after a hard run? What next - trailer queens?!? Brian will have to tighten his nuts and Trevor may be forced into a glossy round-tank rebuild. Where will it end?

However, well done guys, especially Joe for having revived “Black Bess” to a winning standard.

On the Club front, the 2011 Annual General Meeting is scheduled for the meeting on August 4. Nomination forms for positions are included in this issue. Please note the deadline for submission is the July meeting date, largely so the regional sub-groups can get organised. If you have any queries as to duties or amount of time involved in any of the positions, please don’t hesitate to contact the President or Secretary (see below).

There has also been some further information on the revision of Club plate ride rules from the Prez. See Page 10.We have just received an email from the Kyogle Dirt Bike Club re moves to ban off-road riding on forms of private property. A taste of this is on the following link:http://www.dirtbikeworld.net/forum/showthread.php?p=1123341. A fuller report next month.

From the (still slightly limping) Ed.

As members will know Andy had a "going away" party earlier this year that several members attended. He was intending to return to the UK, visit with the rellies one last time and spend some quality time with his wife Sharryn and their two daughters. Unfortunately cancer is a remorseless disease and he died somewhat short of the expected 12 months.

Many of you would not know Andy as he seldom attended meetings in the 2 previous halls and probably only a half dozen or so in the current club rooms. When we were at his "wake" the reasons became apparent; he was always working and thisinvolved a lot of 24 hour+ stints in public health vans, lots of conferences & frequent weekend work.

He was also a founder of the Rage Tourers (explains why we got all of those invites), ran for parliament with the Riders Rights group and was heavily involved with the Motorcycle Council. He was quite a generous man with both his time & property as several club members past and present have benefited from parts cast off his A10 which he had

just finished converting from a chopper back to standard and all club members will benefit from the pergola that he donated to the club.

Prior to the new diagnosis he was about to take on the job of Club Registrar. In the past he has hosted the club to an "on ride" barbie when we were doing amountains run on at least two occasions.

He had a brilliant mind, wicked sense of humour and sound knowledge of all things BSA. Both Shane and I have spent many an hour in the car park after meetings in deep conversation with Andy and his presence will be greatly missed.

Victor’s Run Page

Five Days in the Outback1-5 April, 2011

Six starters lined up at Kellyville for the outback tour. Victor and Jim onYamahas, Neil and Shane on BSAs, John on Triumph and Joe on Harley.

Up the Putty Rd to just short of Singleton where we turned onto the Golden Highway and on to Merriwa where we stopped for lunch. The countryside was dry-looking even though there had been so much rain in Sydney. Continued past Cassilis and turned off on the Warrumbungles Way to Coolah, arrived there about 4pm. Stayed at the same hotel as last year, but this time the hotel wasn’t very busy, no more TAB in town. Had dinner at the hotel then left for Coonabarabran early next morning.

There was hardly any traffic along the roads, apart from the Newell Highway into Coonabarabran. Neil wanted to see the Warrumbungles National Park and the radio-telescope which was on the way. Unfortunately we couldn't see theTelescope, the electricity was not working in the visitors gallery. We headed back to Coonabarabran to fill up with petrol for the run to Manilla by way of Gunnedah.

Arrived on the farm where we were staying quite late Saturday

afternoon. Neil's bike was playing up. Sunday was to be a rest day for repairs etc.

Trevor Birley, a fellow motorcyclist, also has an aeroplane and he asked us if we would like to go for a flight. I agreed to be the first and after we took off Trevor asked if I would like to have a go, naturally I agreed. I was quite nervous and as soon as I took hold of the control column I jerked the stick tothe right, the right hand wing dropped alarmingly. Trevor said just relax, be gentle - what an experience, maybe I shouldhave tried flying when I was younger. Joe was next then John and finally Neil. The others didn't want to fly.

The rest of the day was spent relaxing and even a bit of cow herding. Monday morning farewells were said and we left for Tamworth and on to Nowendoc.

The road over the mountains was windy but good, it got quite cold the higher the road went. Towards the end of the road where it met Thunderbolt’s Way, weencountered some dirt road, luckily it was only a short stretch. Turned into Thunderbolt’s Way and rode on to Nowendoc to fill up. When we got there there was a sign

saying no fuel. The Yamaha has a small tank and petrol was being used up so we took off for Barrington. I just got there with only about 1/2 litre of petrol left.

Rode through Gloucester and onto to Dungog to stay the night but it was quite early. Joe suggested Clarence Town so off we went. Monday is a bad day to be inClarence Town if you want to have a meal - nothing is open except a takeaway and IGA. The accommodation was a resort but it was cheap enough. It rained allnight and in the morning the sky was with cloud, wet weather gear was donned and we set off for Maitland and Cessnock, and stopped at Mangrove Mountain for coffee and a rest. Next stop was Pie in the Sky for a breather and then home.

There was a downpour at Turramurra; for three of us it was quite heavy but soon stopped. It was a fantastic trip, Trevor Birley was an excellent host.

Road Warrior, 26 March, 2011

We had eight riders come out to play this morning, Ray on his Bonnie, Victor, Jim, Bill and Mark all on Yamahas, Joe on his Sportie, and Shane and I on ourBeezas. We met at the BP at Asquith and made our way to the Road Warrior cafe at Mount White.

The weather was overcast and cool, great for riding. After acuppa and something to eat, and a long chit chat, we headed off and

continued along the old road to somewhere close to the Gosford quarries, where we turned around and came back.

We stopped again, this time at Pie in the Sky for another round of coffees and more chat. It was a nice ride with cool weather and no breakdowns.

The next club ride is next Sunday to Wollombi, however Vic, Joe,

Neil and Shane will be away on their 5-day run to the Warrumbungles, via Manillaand Thunderbolt’s Way, so we will need to see who's up for it, or re-schedule the ride for another weekend.
