Our Sacramental Information Sacrament of Baptism: Baptism is usually
celebrated at the last Mass on any weekend in
each of our Churches except during Lent. First
time parents must attend a pre-Baptism class
prior to the Baptism, Godparents should be
present if possible. Please call Gail Gould at the
Pastoral Center prior to the birth of your baby.
Sacrament of Reconciliation: Saturdays 3:00 -
3:30 at St. Joseph, St. Augustine and St. Francis
Xavier and at St. Denis on Sunday at 10:30 am.,
or by personal request.
Sacrament of Confirmation: If you are a Cath-
olic and have never celebrated Confirmation
and would like to call Sr. Carol Martin 623-
8823.
Sacrament of Marriage: Call the Pastoral Cen-
ter and make arrangements at least six months
in advance of your wedding date. Couples must
attend a preparation program prior to the
wedding.
Sacrament of the Sick: Please call the Pastoral
Center during the course of a loved one’s illness
so that the person may be given this healing
consolation. This Sacrament may also be ad-
ministered at Church before or after any Mass.
Eucharist to the Sick: We ask family or friends
to let us know when someone is in a nursing
home or home bound so the Eucharist may be
offered to them. Please call the Pastoral Center
at 623-8823 and we will make the arrangements
for a Eucharistic Minister to visit them.

What a stormy time we’ve had lately!! I hope you have all been staying safe in

The Kennebec Valley Community Organization (KVO) will be holding it’s
annual convention this year in St. Augustine Church Hall on Sunday, February
8th from 4 to 6 p.m. The public is invited. Come and learn of the advocacy
work and plans for the coming year. Speak to Fr. Frank for more information.
Thank you to all our parishioners who were able to join the clergy members of
the Winthrop Area Ministers Association (WAMA) on Martin Luther King Jr.
Day at St. Francis Hall in Winthrop for a panel discussion on the issues of in-
carceration in our society. It was a great way to celebrate MLK’s influence in
our nation.
The Lenten season begins Wednesday, February 18th with Ash Wednesday.

Please plan to participate in our 3 day Lenten Retreat March 9, 10, and 11 led
by Passionist Fr. Andy O’Reilly, C.PP.S. We ask all parish groups to not plan

DOES GOD GET ANGRY?
THE BIBLE DOES HAVE a lot to say about what we
popularly describe as the wrath of God. While it’s easy
to interpret that as divine outrage, it’s properly under-
stood as an expression of divine justice. Because we get
even when we get mad, it’s not instinctive for us to im-
agine that God is simply about the business of restoring
justice by means of judgment.
Job mentions God’s wrath nine times; the psalms refer
to it 25 times. The theme of divine wrath is developed
most powerfully in the prophetic tradition, where it
comes up 85 times. Even Isaiah, the prophet of soft
themes like “Emmanuel” and the faithful servant, men-
tions God’s wrath 17 times. Meanwhile Ezekiel, who
never shrinks from wild expressions, brings up divine
wrath 28 times.
Compare these numbers with the gospels, where God’s
wrath is mentioned exactly four times over four ac-
counts—a dramatic reduction. The biblical bottom line
seems to be that God’s anger is nothing to worry about.
God’s justice, however, is a much greater concern.

The St. Michael's Men prayer group will meet on Sunday Feb-
ruary 15 (3-5 PM) at St. Joseph Church. We did not meet dur-
ing the Christmas season, and last month opted to encourage
everyone to attend the Evangelization session scheduled. We'll
resume our gatherings this month with some reflections on the
Prayer of St. Francis and on the season of Lent which begins
February 18. All men of the parish are most welcome to at-
tend. Following a time of prayer and quiet reflection in the
church we gather for coffee, light refreshment and conversa-
tion in the hall.

Saturday, March 7, 2015 Doors will open at 4:30 pm for a social hour and viewing of live and silent auction items, raffle items, main raffle for a 55” ultra-high definition smart TV, and necklaces for the famous “Heads or Tails” game. Dinner begins at 6pm and will be catered by The Liberal Cup once again! Must be 21 years of age to attend.

DAR Essay Contest The Daughters of the American
Revolution (DAR) essay topic this year was: “A Child’s Journey through Ellis Island”. The
year 2015 marks the 125th anniversary of Ellis Island as an immigration station. Students were judged on
historical accuracy, originality, interest, and organization.
Essays had to be between 600 and 1000 words. For the DAR local Coussinoc Chapter, there were four winners
from St. Michael School. They were:
Grade 6: 2nd place - Madeline Levesque
Grade 7: 2nd place - Jillian Coull
Grade 8: 1st place - Gabrielle Low
2nd place - Hagen (Joki) Wallace
All winners will be honored at a ceremony at Togus Veteran’s Hospital in March. Gabrielle Low’s essay will go
