Welcome to the inaugural edition of the official Ali Bin Ali Group’sNewsletter- “the dot”!

Why “the dot”? Since the inception of the company in 1945, Ali Bin AliGroup has always been associated with the enduring presence of theBlue circle in its logo. The blue circle is a symbol of perfection & equality.Over time the group has managed to maintain the core feature of itsvisual identity-The Blue Circle or what we now proudly own & call as the“the dot”, and what better way to reflect that pride than to name ournewsletter after it.

Being one of the many new communication tools, “the dot” is morethan a newsletter. It is a place where we can go to make news and hearthe news. It is a vehicle for us to voice our thoughts, feelings, andsuggestions. It is an interactive space where conversations begin andopinions get expressed. A new medium of communication broughttogether- For the Staff, by the Staff & to the staff. “the dot” will bepublished once in every four months, but since this is the first editionand as an exception, we have extended the period to include the events& happenings of the last 6 months.

You will find that with each edition we will grow with news onhappenings, services recently introduced, special events held, new faceson our team, the talent we have on board at Ali Bin Ali, activities we’reorganising etc. As we expand in terms of a company, it is obvious for usto lose touch with each other, but “the dot” will try to reduce the spaces& bridge the gaps.

So we hope you enjoy this first edition of “the dot” and we appreciateyour feedback and encourage one & all to actively participate.

if necessary realign our Vision, and Valuestatements. So what we focused on at this offsiteevent was reviewing our Vision, Mission andValues, starting from the raw material that was puttogether by the team of our COOs and GMs from allbusinesses in ABA earlier this year at a similaroffsite meeting.”

The outcome of this meeting will flow into a finalworking session steered by the Operating Board, followed by review with the EVP and formal adoption.

Management

3. Identify whichactivities create impact.Select the few things thatyou know will get you theresults you want. This way,you don’t waste time ondoing tasks that don’t havethe intended effect youwant in the long run. Alsolearn to say “No” tounimportant things andactivities. Also, try to figureout what activities slow youdown and minimize thesedistractions.

In today’s world we have more creaturecomforts, more gadgets and in generalmore of everything. Yet, we have less

time! The funny thing about time is thatit is an equalizer. No one on earth can

claim to have more of it than the regular24 hours we each have per day. Yet somepeople accomplish more out of their day

than others. What’s their secret?

Whether you are a Managerleading a team or a fresher who

has just started off on your first job– here are some proven

management tips that can helpyou with that priceless commodity:

time!

1. Know your goalsand values. Create focusby finding out what youwant to achieve in yourlife. “If you don’t knowyour values, how do youknow that certain activitiesare in accordance withyour values or not?”

2. Write a To-Do List. You can make to-do lists for your entire year, a month, or aday. Don’t write too many tasks on yourlist, but make clear which activities aremore importantto you thanothers. Don’t betoo vague whenyou write yourtasks, so youknow exactlywhat you needto finish. Forexample, insteadof writing down “Finish report”, you shouldwrite down what specific part of the reportyou want to finish. This will push you tocomplete the task instead of dilly-dallying.

1. Set aside time for important, major activities. “Urgent small thingswill always creep into your schedule, butwho makes the choices on what to do?You; you can always allocate time for theimportant things because it’s your life, and you should have control over it.

2. Schedule matters.Schedule smaller activitiesaround bigger, more impor-tant activities becausesmaller activities are moreflexible.

3. Take time to planyour day. It is useful if youcan take at least 15 minutesa day to plan out what youneed to do. Don’t over-plansuch that your schedule istoo rigid, and don’t spendtoo much time planningsince this will waste yourtime too.

4. Be flexible withyour plans. “You neverknow when emergenciesand opportunities willcome knocking,” A rigidschedule will seem tooforbidding, and sooner orlater, you’ll lose yourinterest in life. Alwaysmake time for the funthings, and make roomfor surprises.

5. use time-management systems. These include organizers, planners, online calendars like Yahoo! and Google, and even your owncellphone’sorganizer. There aremany freecomputerapplications outthere that can helpyou plan out yourschedule, so makethe most of them.

Well it is a two-waystreet, and to be effectivecommunicators, we mustall listen well to eachother. One-way process inthis can be equated todriving down a one-waystreet the wrong way. It'sdangerous, it can get youinto trouble and it can beexpensive. Even you allmust have faced at leastonce the consequences ofnot paying attention tosomebody’s advice, sug-gestion or whatsoever.

In today’s fast paced world, lis-tening has become almost a for-gotten art. We are so busy mak-ing sure that people hear whatwe have to say that we forget tolisten. In short we talk when weare supposed to listen carefully.

To master this art is quite simpleas when you want to keep fit in,you go to GYM. But to maintainthat visit to GYM is what an art.Similarly mastering the skills for

this also needs practice. Here are some suggestions fordeveloping your listening skills:Develop the desire to listen. Youmust accept the fact that listeningto others is your strongestweapon. Given the opportunity, the other person will tell youeverything you need to know. Ifthis doesn't create desire, I don'tknow what will.

1 - Always let the other persondo most of the talking. This is asimple matter of mathematics. Isuggest a 70/30 rule. You listen - 70% of the time and you talk30% of the time.

2 - Don't interrupt. There is al-ways the temptation to interruptso you can tell the other person

something you think is vitally im-portant. It isn't, so don't. Whenyou are about to speak, ask your-self if it is really necessary.

3 - Learn active listening. It's notenough that you're listening tosomeone – you want to be surethat they know you're listening.Active listening is the art of com-municating to the other personthat you're hearing their every

word.

4 - Ask forclarification ifneeded. Thiswill clear up amisunder-standing youhave.

5 - Get used to 'listening' fornonverbal messages – body lan-guage. The other person may becommunicating with you via body

language. You need to under-stand the message.

6 - Ask a question...then bequite. This is a foolproof way tolisten.

The best way to master this is“think of yourself as an inter-viewer” – just like you see popu-lar celebrities being interviewed.Best Example is the famous andone of the oldest TV Host BarbaraWalters of American BroadcastCompany who listens carefullyand questions the celebrities. Inmy experience, after watchingher interview shows, I have de-veloped a better listening skillsthan before. The Human weakness is he or shemisses a obvious things in lifewhich contributes towards thesuccess if you understand andadopt and failure if you don’t.Learn to listen and communicateeffectively, because this is themost important ingredient thatwill reflect the “REAL YOU”whether you are in public or pri-vate, which in other words weterm as “ATTITUDE”.

Listening is an Art, if done well, gives you unexpectedbenefits. The purpose of this is to achieve a “win-winsituation. The Win-Win situation not only increasesunderstanding, affirmation, validation and appreciationbut also creates a strong foundation of trust, honorand respect. Don’t you feel special, when someonetruly listens to you?

1) Take a shorter shower. If you take long showers, considercutting it short by a few minutes. You’ll conserve water, and theelectricity needed to heat up thewater, lowering your utility billsand reducing your energyconsumption at the same time.

2) use a rag or hand towelinstead of napkins or papertowels.Reusing items instead of usingdisposable items is almost always abetter thing for the environment.Reduce the need to cut down trees, the power needed to turn them intonapkins, and the space in thelandfill once you throw them away.

3) Don’t print at least once today.Instead of automatically hitting the“print” button, think of whether youreally need a hardcopy of thatdocument. Can you email it instead?File it on your computer instead ofyour file cabinet? Read it on thecomputer instead of on paper? Youdon’t have to eliminate printingentirely, but holding off on that“print” button once in awhile couldgreatly reduce your paperconsumption.

4) Carpool once this week.Have a friend or family member orco-worker who makes roughly thesame commute as you? Try ridingtogether at least once. It save onfuel consumption, cuts your fuelspending, reduces greenhouseemissions, and you can get a goodconversation at the same time.

5) Turn off the TV for an hour.Reduce your energy consumptionand get outside and play a sport.

Or garden. Or just take a walk. Youget healthy and enjoy the naturalbeauty of your surroundings.

6) Turn off the lights. If you leave a room, even for a littlewhile, turn off the lights. You don’tneed it, and it’s wasting energy.

7) use a coffee mug instead ofdisposable. If you routinely use disposablecups at work or on the road, use aceramic coffee cup or a travelmug, reducing the amount of trashyou throw away.

8) use CFC light bulbs. If your light bulb burns out, replace

it with a Compact Flourescent bulb(those spiral-looking ones). They’remore expensive, but if you justreplace them one at a time, itdoesn’t cost much, and the energysavings is great. And as they lastlonger, over the long run, you’llsave money.

9) Skip the foil and plastic wrap.Use reusable plastic foodcontainers to store leftovers orother food in the fridge andcabinets, instead of disposablematerial.

10) Inflate your tires. Many people don’t realize that theirtires are under-inflated. Check therecommended pressure for yourtires, and fill them up to thatpressure. It only takes a fewminutes, but it will save you on fuelconsumption (a little) and moreimportantly, make your tires lastlonger and reduce the rubber that’sworn off your tires.

11) Clean up.If you go to the beach or a park, leave it cleaner than when you gotthere. Pick up some cans and othertrash that were there when youarrived. Takes a couple minutes, and makes the world a nicer placeto live in.

12) Talk to your kids about theenvironment.Just a 5-minute conversation everynow and then about fuelconsumption, greenhouseemissions, wasting food and trash, energy consumption, preservinghabitats ? this can help educateyour children about the issues thatwill be affecting them tomorrow. And an educated population willdo more to help the environmentthan anything else.

13) Reuse printed paper. If you have non-sensitivedocuments that have been printedout, but are no longer needed, trymarking the printed side, andusing the clean side for non-officialprinting. In fact, if you can getyour office to do this, you’llsave tons of paper a year.

14) Turn down yourwater heater. Most people have theirwater heater’s thermostatturned up too high, wasting energy. Turn itdown to 130 degrees, saving energy but stillhot enough to killbacteria.

15) Plant a tree.It really doesn’t take muchtime, and over time moretrees in your communitycan make a difference. Doa few every year, andencourage others to dothe same.

16) Hang out your clothes. If it’s a nice sunny day, hangingclothes only takes a few minutes, and you’re using solar powerinstead of electricity to do the job.It also makes your clothes lastlonger.

17) Get a low-flow shower head.Stop at the hardware store on yourway home, and get a low-flowshower head. Takes a few minutesto install, and it’ll save gallons ofwater a day.

18) Lower your thermostats. If you use heating, get by with less

heat and wear warmer clothes. Ifyou use air-conditioning, get by withless cooling and wear cooler clothes.

19) Participate or organize aclean-up.Sure, this’ll take a little more ofyour time, but if you don’t havemuch to do on the weekends, thiscan be tremendously fun andfulfilling. Clean up a beach, astreet, a park, a lake or a river.

20) use acryllic paint.Oil-based paints are toxic andcreate a lot of pollution duringmanufacturing. Instead, if you’regoing to buy paint, buy acryllic.

21) Clean your filters.Clean the filters of your air-conditioners once a month toimprove energy efficiency. Whileyou’re at it, change your car’sfilters as recommended in yourmanual.

22) Wash clothes in cold water.Hot water is unnecessary for mostclothes. When needed, use warmwater.

23) Fill your toilet tank.Put a plastic bottle or two, filledwith water and rocks, in your tankto reduce the amount of waterused in each flush.

24) Buy recycled products. As much as possible, get therecycled version of products youbuy.

25) Recycle.Sure, it’s a regular practice in someplaces, with curb-side pickup ofrecycled waste. But in otherplaces,

there’s no such thing. Instead, create a few containers for paper, plastic and aluminum waste inyour home or office. When it’s full, drop it off at a local recyclingcenter (look in your phone book)on your errands day.

26) Look for energy efficiency. When you’re looking to buyappliances, be sure to research themost energy-efficient ones. Theymay cost a little more, but they’llmore than make up for that in thelong run with lower energy bills.

27) Water grass early in themorning.Reduces the amount of water youneed to keep your grass lookingfabulous.

28) Plant shade trees near yourhouse. It’ll take awhile before they can makea difference, but shade trees greatlyreduce the need to cool a home.

29) use rechargeable batteries.Instead of throwing your batteriesaway all the time, reuserechargeable batteries. Costs a littlemore, but cheaper in the long run.30) Walk instead of drive.

You don’t have to do this all thetime, but walking the short trip toa store, or to lunch from work, orsome other short trip like that, canreduce the amount of fuel you useover the long term, and you shedsome fat at the same time. Or atleast burn off that morning donut.

31) unplug appliances. If you don’t use an applianceseveral times a day, it’s better tounplug it, as they often use energyeven when turned off

32) unload your car.Remove excess weight from yourcar (such as stuff that might be inthe trunk) to reduce the amount offuel you use.

33) Try cycling.Biking to work or around town canbe a great way to get in someexercise and save fuel.

34) Install a water filter. If you buy a lot of bottled water, use your tap instead. Some placesneed a filter to make tap watertaste drinkable, but they don’t costmuch and they can save money, water, and plastic bottles over time.

35) use cloth shopping bags.Don’t cost much, and can save alot of paper or plastic.

36) Mend your stuff.Try not tothrow stuff away and buy newstuff if the old stuff can be fixed.Torn clothing? Takes a few minutesto sew up.

37) Buy durable.Look for long-lasting, well-madeproducts instead of cheap, disposable ones. Use lessdisposable plates, cups, utensils.Use cloth diapers instead ofdisposable.

38) use your oven less. The oven not only uses a lot ofenergy, it heats up your kitchen, requiring more cooling. Instead, use toaster ovens, crockpots, microwaves, and electric grillswhen you can. And when you douse your oven, open it less – youlose 25% of the heat every timeyou open the oven door.

Eat light, small, frequent meals.Start the morning with asweet, juicy fruit at breakfast.Ripe summer fruits are exactlywhat your skin craves forduring this season. Citrus fruitsare also very cooling. Eat wholeor extract their juice, store inthe refrigerator and sip oftenthroughout the day.

Include salads in your diet.Consuming leafy lettuce andsummer greens, corn on coband cucumbers, in salads aredelicious ways to stay cool. These foods contain asignificant amount of waterand can actually thin the blood, which has a cooling effect.

The summer is already here & your skin seems to besucking the heat in deeper into your body. And throwin a little pollution and each second becomes purehell when you are outdoors.
