When the apostles first spoke of Jesus, it changed everything. Consider that they were just twelve men. To embrace Christianity one risked losing their property (it was illegal) or even their lives in the worst of times. Yet Christianity grew. There was something compelling about their message, and their message was Jesus.

The summary of who Jesus was and what he accomplished is called the kerygma. It is a very basic statement of belief. The first apostles were missionaries, men who traveled and proclaimed the Good News of Jesus, the Christ, the Son of God. I invite you to hear the kerygma proclaimed by the missionaries of the Neocatechumenale Way on Wednesday of this week and Monday of next week.

Students at St. Joseph will be trained this week help as servers and as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. Consider if you would like to assist during liturgy as a lector, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, choir member, usher, or Mass captain/sacristan. Perhaps you assisted before the Mass times changed and would like to become familiar with the ministry where you currently attend.

We are nearing All Saints’ Day (November 1). Did you know that full-length movies for many Saints are available for free through FORMED? Who will you or your children learn about this week or next?

St. Stephen and St. Mary Cemeteries On November 2, 2017, to recognize All Souls Day, St Stephen Cemetery (1314 Greenwood Ave, Hamilton) will have a burial for cremated remains (ashes). If you have a loved one’s cremains and wish them to be buried, please contact St Stephen Cemetery office 737-1600 for more information. Proper burial of cremated remains, according to the teaching, “prevents the faithful departed from being forgotten, or their remains from being shown

a lack of respect, which eventuality is possible, most especially once the immediately subsequent generation has too passed away.” (The Catholic Telegraph August 2017).

St Mary and St Stephen Cemeteries have a new website: www.stmaryststephencemeteries.com

Stop by the St. Julie Church Entrance and support the Baked Goods Sale! The PREP students appreciate your generosity as they collect money for various charities: Rice Bowl, Thanksgiving Baskets, Catholic Relief Services, Pregnancy Center East, Inc., etc. Come and taste some of their delicious baking. Thank you to all the parents who attended the Confirmation Parent Meeting last Sunday. If you were not able to make it, call Mary Pat Austing at 863-1040 ext. 815 as soon as possible or email: [email protected]. First Reconciliation Text: Chapter 3 is due this week in PREP class. Incontrol Parent Meeting for PREP for grades 6-12 on Sunday, November 5 at 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM during PREP. Parents are asked to come to St. Stephens Hall on the first floor of the Fenmont. Pregnancy Center East, Inc. will give a presentation on chastity. The InControl program presents to thousands of school age youth each year. This is the 5th year at PREP. Come and hear how you can help your maturing child be healthy and happy. Visit www.pregnancycentereast.com for more info. InControl classes during PREP will be on November 5 for high school and on November 12 for grades 6, 7, 8. Thanksgiving Food Drive at PREP Starts Nov. 5-19. Please send in cans of green beans, yams, corn, cranberries, gravy, and packages of cookies, stuffing, instant potatoes and large foil baking pans. On November 19, grades 6-12 students and their families will be staying after PREP to sort canned goods and share a simple lunch.

Our pastoral region is sponsoring a series of cathechesis every Monday and Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM at St Joseph’s to discuss how embracing our faith as adults can nourish, strengthen and sustain us not only through difficult and challenging periods of our life but also accompany us in our moments of joy - and aid us in becoming instruments of His evangelization. As we all have deeply

personal or perplexing questions that can confound us, these discussions may offer hope and joy while rediscovering Jesus Christ and His teachings. It is a way to revive the richness of the gospels and the way in which the Gospels can positively impact lives today. No matter what your current level of faith might be—you will find these talks enlightening and inspiring. Just Come and listen!

Am I suffering and do not know why? Do I understand the meaning of life? Do I believe that God loves me as I am

with all my faults? Do I know what faith is, what it means to

be a Christian , and why it matters for my concrete daily life?

World Mission Sunday: Pope Francis reminds us that “World Mission Sunday invites us to reflect anew on the mission at the heart of the Christian faith. The Church is missionary by nature; otherwise, she would no longer be the Church of Christ...” Currently more than 1,100 mission dioceses in Africa and Asia are struggling to build up their own faith communities. So, please be generous this weekend.

St. Vincent de Paul Society In the Gospel today Jesus says:

“Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.” When God is the center of our lives there is no problem with giving others their due.

Through your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul you are helping your neighbor who are hungry, hopeless, and frightened to know that they belong to God.

Catholic Ministries Appeal

Thank you!

Archbishop Schnurr has sent a thank you to our parish for our generous contribution of $22,403.00 to the Appeal, which is 94% of our parish goal.

In total, the CMA exceeded its $5 million goal with over $5.3 million pledged from more than 28,000 households throughout the nineteen counties of the archdiocese. The success of this year’s appeal will provide a path of hope to thousands right here in our local communities.

Thank you again, and please continue to pray for our Archdiocese as we work to spread the Gospel here in our local Church.

Our pastoral region is part of the Butler County Family Promise which provides overnight lodging and support services to homeless children and families in Butler County. They partner other faith congregations to provide 24/7/365 days-a-year shelter and services to eligible families. Once enrolled, families are “hosted” by local congregations who take on the responsibilities of sheltering and feeding families; families who spend their days working with FP staff to find sustainable housing, employment, and transportation services, all within 90 days of program entry. Here families are housed at Dot’s house four times a year for one week periods. Please be generous in supporting this important work.
