Ballot Format The arrangement ot the ballot created in BOSS. Ballots may b€formated for the eslate PVS or for Ballot Now.

The election industry term for an electronic machine at which a votercan view and vote a ballot.

A rsporl that the JBC prints when the polling place lD is setected.The report contains the cunent date and time, iurisdiction name,election name, election date, polling place, and number of precinctsenabled.

A Hart lntercMc electronic voting input devica without audiocapability. An el4tronic ballot is presented on this unit.

In the conteli ot an election, a test to check the accuracv of a pieeot voting oquipmsnt. lt is accomplished by feding test ballots forwhich the results are already known (i.e., a'test decld) through theballot counting system and comparing the resulb wilh the expsc.tedresults.

Moblle BallotBox (MBB)

A PC card that holds all of the ballot information for the eslate EVS.An MBB is placed in the JBC unit, and an MBB is us6d in the BallotNow computer. Cast Vote Records are stored on MBBs.

NeturorkConflguratlonReport

A report printed on the JBC after booths are assigned. The reportcontains the ssrial number, software version, PUB count, and PVTcount tor the JBC and each eslate unit.

PC Card A pieae of hardware about the size of an ATM card. lt is aninformation storage d6vice, similar in function to a floppy dlsk lt isalso called a "PCMCIA' card. ln the eslate Electronic Voting Systemit is called a Mobile Ballot Box (MBB)

Party A pomical party. For example, Democrat or Republican.Polllng Placs Whsre voters phrsically go to vole. A single polling place, during

early voJing, can support multiple precinc.ts.PUB Count A sirdigit number, shown on the Network Configuration Report from

the JBC that indicates how many votes have been counted on thatmachine for th€ cunent election.

Preclnct A jurisdiction subdMsion for election purposes.ProvlslonalVoter

A voter who may not meet the qualifications for voting at that pollingplace, but is auowed to vote on a "provisional balloF under conditionsby state election law. Because the voter is hrovisionaf, hidher ba otmust be rctriavable by election officials under cartain conditions thatvary from state to state. Also called a voter with a "challenoed ballof.

PVT Gount A six-digit numb€r, shown on the Network Configuration neport fromthe JBC that indicates how many votes have been counted on thatmachine in its lifetime.

Retdgual Cod6 A unique number asigned to a provisional ballot to enable wviftretrieval of that ballot from the eslate system bv election ofticials.

SelectWhsl The rotary wheel on the eslate and DAU eslate that allows a voter tonavigate the ballot and highlight choices by tuming th€ wheel. lt isalso called Rotary SelectrM Navigation Sf/stem.

A JBC report that automatically prints when polls are suspendsd inEarly Voting. The report lisb the PUB count and PvT count of theJBC and eSlate units, a Daily (ACCESS CODE) Summary, and aCumulqlive (ACCESS CODE) Summary.

Tactlle InputSrYltches

Also called "jelly s,vitches" or'jelly buttond.Red and grsen ?addles" that enable voters with disabilities to vot€without using ths SELECT whesl and ENTER button on the eslate.Voters without flne motor control use these. The FED tactile inputswitch is similar to the eslate's SELECT wheel. The GREEN tactileinput switch is similar to the eslate s ENTER butlon.

Tallyru The sslate EVS tabulatlon software. After an election, the Tallysoftwaro counts the votes on the MBB(s) and producos rspotts onthose cast votes.

Tally Raport A JBC report that is printed when polls are closed on election day.includes the date, time, precinct, a tally of votes for each 6!nt6t,and an ACCESS CODE Summarv.

Tralning Poll workers

Poll workers must bo adept at operatlng the eslate, DAU, and JBC (if appllcabla). lf Pollworkers are comfortable with the polling plac€ components of the eslate ElectronicVoting system, then ihey will be mrnfortable assisting voters.

To accomplish this comfort, and knowledge, level, at least two Poll workers (thoserunnlng the JBC) from each polling place should go through Hart InteroMc's eslateElectronic Voting System Polling Place Operations Training Manual and courgework witha Hart lnteroMc Training Specialist or a trained county employee (trained through ourTain-the-Trainer program). The Poll worke/s eSlate Op€rations Quick Reference, andthe estate Polling Ptace S:fstem Quick Referene, should also be available al eachpolling plac€.
