Brothers and Sisters,
Pray for me! Very o en in the Chris an
life you will hear these three simple, but
very profound words uttered. A request
for prayer can come in many forms. Some‐
one may ask for himself, herself or another person. Addition‐
ally, you may communicate your own need for prayer to a
family member, friend, to members of our parish community
in person, or by phone, mail, email, or social media. A few
months ago, we sent a text to Holy Name of Jesus parish‐
ioners through Flocknote asking how we could pray for your
needs… over 1,100 parishioners asked for specific prayers
(which we obliged). Regardless of how prayer is requested,
Christians for generations have come to learn that the power
of prayer is great and strong, whether it is be for one’s per‐
sonal relationship with God or communally, when the Church
prays united together.
The beau ful reality in the Catholic Church is that our pray‐
ers for one another do not end here in this life. According to
the Church’s teaching on the communion of saints, we can
offer mutual prayer and support past this life into life to
come. St. Pope Paul VI upon speaking of the communion of
saints said, "We believe in the communion of all the faithful
of Christ, those who are pilgrims on earth, the dead who
are being purified, and the blessed in heaven, all together
forming one Church; and we believe that in this communion,
the merciful love of God and his saints is always a en ve
to our prayers.”
Our Church is more than what we see. Our Church encom-
passes the unseen reality of the mys cal communion of
saints described above… how easy it is for us sensory human
beings to forget that we are part of a vast cloud of witnesses
who care deeply about us! Praying connects us to that loving
Body of Christ that we cannot see with our eyes or embrace
with our arms. Through prayer, we traverse physical bound-
aries. In as much as the pandemic’s physical restric ons
remind us of the value of our rela onships with friends and
family here on earth, these restric ons also underscore our
need to strengthen our connec on with Christ and with the
Church triumphant in heaven. Prayer is an incredible gi we
can offer one another whether for us pilgrims on earth or
for the repose of the souls of our loved ones who have died.
The Mass remains the most powerful way to pray for one
another for there is no greater prayer on earth than the
living gi of Christ’s Real Presence in the Eucharist. St. Pope
Paul VI once said, “The Mass is the most perfect form of
prayer.” And it was also St. John Vianney who shared about
the power of the Eucharist; “There is nothing so great as the
Eucharist. If God had something more precious, He would
have given it to us.”
Remember, you are part of the mys cal Body of Christ and
nothing can separate us from Christ’s love – not death, fires,
or even a pandemic. Love is such a powerful bond and it is
prayer that keeps this bond alive and well. Keep me in your
prayers as I pray for all of you. I look forward to every Mass
where we can powerfully pray for and with each other!

Our parish is alive! Despite the challenges we have endured, our parish is
alive because God is with us. In July and August, we witnessed the following:
21 infant bap sms; 124 first communions;
youth confirma ons; 52 adult confirma ons;
12 older youth and adults became full members of our Catholic faith
through the Sacraments of Ini a on: Bap sm, Confirma on, and Eucharist.

Hermanos y hermanas en Cristo:
“¡Ora por mí!” En la vida cristiana escu‐
charás muy a menudo estas tres palabras
sencillas pero muy profundas. La oración
puede pedirse de muchas formas. Uno
puede pedir oración por uno mismo o por otra persona.
Además, uno puede comunicar su propia necesidad de
oración a un familiar, amigo, a los miembros de nuestra
comunidad parroquial en persona, por teléfono, correo,
correo electrónico, o las redes sociales. Hace unos meses,
enviamos un mensaje de texto a los feligreses del Santo
Nombre de Jesús a través de Flocknote preguntándoles
cómo podíamos orar por sus necesidades… más de 1,100
feligreses pidieron oraciones específicas (las cuales ofrecimos).
Independientemente de cómo se solicite la oración, por
generaciones los cris anos han sabido que el poder de la
oración es grande y fuerte, ya sea por la relación personal
con Dios o en comunidad, cuando la Iglesia ora unidad y al
unísono.
La hermosa realidad en la Iglesia Católica es que las ora‐
ciones que ofrecemos unos por otros no terminan aquí en
esta vida. De acuerdo con la enseñanza de la Iglesia sobre la
comunión de los santos, podemos ofrecer oración y apoyo
mutuo más allá de esta vida en la vida venidera. El Papa san
Pablo VI dijo al hablar de la comunión de los santos:
"Creemos en la comunión de todos los fieles cris anos, es
decir, de los que peregrinan en la erra, de los que se purifi-
can después de muertos y de los que gozan de la bienaven-
turanza celeste, y que todos se unen en una sola Iglesia; y
creemos igualmente que en esa comunión está a nuestra
disposición el amor misericordioso de Dios y de sus santos,
que siempre ofrecen oídos atentos a nuestras oraciones”.
Nuestra Iglesia es más de lo que vemos. Nuestra Iglesia
abarca la realidad invisible de la comunión mís ca de los
santos descrita anteriormente... ¡qué fácil es para nosotros,
los seres humanos sensoriales, olvidar que somos parte de
una vasta nube de testigos que se preocupan profundamente
por nosotros! La oración nos une a ese amoroso Cuerpo de
Cristo que no podemos ver con nuestros ojos ni abrazar con
nuestros brazos. A través de la oración cruzamos los límites
sicos. En la medida en que las restricciones sicas de la
pandemia nos recuerdan el valor de nuestras relaciones con
amistades y familiares aquí en la erra, estas restricciones
también subrayan nuestra necesidad de fortalecer nuestro
vínculo con Cristo y con la Iglesia triunfante en el cielo. La
oración es un regalo increíble que podemos ofrecernos unos
a otros, ya sea por nosotros que peregrinamos en la erra o
por el descanso de las almas de nuestros seres queridos ya
difuntos.
La Santa Misa sigue siendo la forma más poderosa de orar
unos por otros, porque no hay oración más grande en
la erra que el don viviente de la Presencia Real de Cristo
en la Eucaris a. El Papa san Pablo VI dijo una vez: "La Santa
Misa es la manera más perfecta de hacer oración". Y
también fue San Juan Vianney quien compar ó sobre el
poder de la Eucaris a; “No hay nada tan grande como la
Eucaris a. Si Dios tuviera algo más precioso, Él nos lo
hubiera dado".
Recuerden, ustedes son parte del Cuerpo mís co de Cristo y
nada puede separarnos del amor de Cristo, ni la muerte, los
incendios o incluso una pandemia. El amor es un vínculo tan
poderoso y es la oración lo que man ene vivo y sano este
vínculo. Me encomiendo a sus oraciones y ofrezco las mías
por todos ustedes. ¡Espero con expecta va cada Misa en la
que podamos orar poderosamente por y con los demás!

renewed racial unrest in our communi es. With so many
injus ces present in our world today, it can be hard to
remember that nothing exists in a vacuum or silo. A key theme
in Laudato Si’ is the idea that everything is connected, a fact
clearly evident in today’s challenges. Caring for crea on
responds to both the “cry of the earth” and “the cry of the
poor”.
During this Season of Crea on, Holy Name’s Care for Crea on
Ministry invites you to renew your spirit with prayer, study,
and ac on.

Cornelio era un ciudadano romano que sucedió a san Fabián en el papado, luego de 14 meses sin obispo. El candidato que aspi‐raba al cargo le creó serios problemas, pues calificó de ilegítima la elección papal de Cornelio. Además, se oponía a que se reci‐biera en la Iglesia a los apóstatas, mientras que el Papa Cornelio sostenía que sí, que podían ser readmi dos luego de una peni‐tencia. En el 253 se declaró una persecución contra los cristianos y Cornelio fue desterrado sufriendo el cautiverio y posteriormen‐te la decapitación. Durante su destierro recibió una carta del obispo Cipriano, quien le felicitaba por sufrir en nombre de Cristo. Este obispo se había conver do a los 45 años al cris a‐nismo, renunciando a su vida placentera y abrazando no sólo el Evangelio, sino también a los autores cris anos, entre ellos a Tertuliano, quien le influyó notablemente. Gracias a su conoci‐miento de oratoria y retórica impulsó enormemente el cris a‐nismo en África. Como obispo, fue firme y carita vo, enfrentó la persecución y fue decapitado. Ambos, Cipriano y Cornelio son recordados en la Plegaria Eucarís ca I del Rito Romano.

con nua y sus esfuerzos para crear un entorno parroquial que
exhorte y fomente el discernimiento son dos formas importes
en que pueden ayudar. Otra forma de apoyar a los seminar‐
istas es donando al Fondo de Desarrollo Diocesano (DDF).
El DDF provee los fondos para las necesidades educa vas y la
formación de nuestros seminaristas diocesanos. Si aún no lo
han hecho, por favor hagan una promesa y donen al DDF.
Hay otra forma de ayudar directamente a nuestros seminar‐
istas, Oliver y Manuel. De vez en cuando, ellos tendrán nece‐
sidades personales que no cubre la diócesis, como comprar
ar culos de aseo personal, reparar computadoras personales,
reparar vehículos u otras necesidades. Los invito a que formen
parte de mi grupo para apoyarlos. Si quieren ayudar, contribuyan
