Presidents Report
Gnomes at Floriade - Bly, Tim, Bill and I did several shifts as well asinvolving Bills sister Barbara & Jon her grandson one day when we wereparticularly short an excellent week but pretty hectic. Sunday was prize
presentation for the gnomes, gnome pickup and packup - a good day butstill 4.30pm before we left.
Bill and I also assisted in the pickup from Floriade on Monday morningand attended Canberra Easts meeting on Monday night.
Natalie, Joan, Trent and Roni went to Rotary Conference on the weekend I understand a good time was had by all!
Last week is Hat Day for Mental Research there were a few wackiest/prettiest/anything hats and we enjoyed the pizzas and company on thenight. Our speaker unfortunately did not come.
This week is our Board meeting lots to discuss so please be there ifyou can.

The Rotary Club of Jerrabomberra will be hosting an information night presented by FelixMollel & Kim Saville from the School of St Jude in Arusha, Tanzania. Felix will bespeaking about the School of St Jude and how he came to work there. He will talk about hisfamily life, his Maasai tribe and growing up in Tanzania.
He will explain how St Judes has empowered him, along with 400 other Tanzaniancolleagues, to develop skills, learn English and as part of a community, fight poverty througheducation. Guests will be captivated by Felix's story.It is also the story of how an Australianwoman made a huge difference in an African country with the support of many Rotary clubsin Australia and is continuing to do so. It really is a celebration of success and triumph of thehuman spirit.
This is the first time that Felix has travelled outside Africa so it will be a very special timefor him. There will be time for questions and answers.
All district Rotary club representatives, family and friends are invited to attend this eveningon:
Thursday, 31st October at Jerrabomberra Public School Hall at 7.30 pm. Tea and coffee willbe provided.

Polio Eradication Update
For The Week Ending October 12, 2013
The Final Seven
Pakistan - 39 Polio cases recorded in 2013 compared to 43 on this date in 2012, with themost recent case reported on Sept. 10, 2013 in North Waziristan - an area whereimmunizations were suspended in June.
Afghanistan - 6 Polio cases recorded in 2013 compared to 21 on this date in 2012, with therecent cases reported on Aug. 27, 2013 from the Kunar province.
Nigeria - 49 Polio cases recorded in 2013 compared to 93 on this date in 2012, with the most
recent cases (from Kano) reported on Sept. 10, 2013. Oral Polio vaccine will be administeredwith measles vaccine during Child Health Days in the North & central areas of Nigeria inearly October.
Somalia - 170 Polio cases recorded in 2013 compared to 0 in 2012, with the most recentreported on Sept. 7. Permanent Vaccination posts have been established along entry & exits
points on the Somalia-Ethiopia border.
Kenya - 14 Polio cases reported in 2013 compared to 0 in 2012, with the most recent case
reported on August 14.
Ethiopia - 4 Polio Cases reported in 2013 compared to 0 in 2012, with the most recent casereported on August 30. Vaccination campaigns are planned for Sept. 26-28.
South Sudan - 3 Polio cases reported in 2013. Vaccination campaigns are beingsynchronized with Sudan and Sub-national Immunization Days are taking place in Ugandathis week.
