(PIA) -- Organizers led by

the National Historical Com-

mission of the Philippines

(NHCP) said the 114th Inde-

pendence Day celebrations

dubbed “Kalayaan 2012”

will be reflective of the Fili-

pino culture and arts. The event commemo-

rates the country's independ-

ence from Spain on June 12,

1898, and will have for its

theme “Kalayaan: Pananagu-

tan ng Bayan para sa Tuwid na

Daan.”

Festivities will begin

with Paco Park Presents

“Panata sa Kalayaan,” a free

musical tribute to renowned

National Artist for Litera-

ture Amado V. Hernandez

on June 8, Friday at 6:00

p,m. at Paco Park in San

Marcelino, Manila. This

will be free concert featur-

ing soprano Raye Lucero of

other hand, will stage

NSO Romblon conducts Updating of the List of Establishments By Dinnes Manzo ROMBLON, Romblon, (PIA) -- The National Statistics Office (NSO) is presently conducting nationwide the 2012 Updating of the List of Establishments (ULE). Enumeration of establishments was started last May 2, 2012 and will be end on June 16, 2012 in the growth centers or barangays in the province where significant change in status/characteristics of estab-lishments were observed to have occurred. The ULE is a regular activity of the NSO and is undertaken pri-marily to provide an updated and reliable sampling frame for the census and survey of establishments. The ULE involves listing of new establish-ments and their characteristics, updating the status and characteristics of old establishments and de-listing “closed” establishments that should no longer form part of the List of Establishments (LE) in each enumera-tion areas in the province. The 2012 ULE is being conducted in preparation for the 2012 Census of Philippine Business and Industry (CPBI) and other establish-ment/enterprise surveys. In Romblon, the statistical staff of NSO Romblon is currently enumerating the establishments in 17 municipalities of the province.(Romblon NEWStat/DM/PIA-IVB/Romblon)

Boac Food Processing Center –

Soon to Open!

Rosemarie Revadeneira/Boac Agriculture’s Office With the vision of improving the lives of Boaceños

and developing tourism sector in the municipality, Hon.

Roberto M. Madla continued to push his dreams of estab-

lishing a Boac Food Processing Center to offer safe, qual-

ity and nutritious processed meat and veggie-based prod-

ucts.Mayor Madla then sought assistance from the DOST-

MIMAROPA thru the Provincial S&T Center-Marinduque

for the actual visit and site assessment of the proposed

Food Processing Center believing that the DOST will be

of great help in this kind of endeavor.

Last May 14, 2012 the Provincial Science and

Technology Center-Marinduque headed by PSTD

Bernardo T. Caringal, facilitated the site visit and meeting

with DOST-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI)

staff, Ms. Cecilia Quindara and Mr. Jaypy De Juan and

Mayor Madla to assess the needs and possible DOST in-

terventions to conform with the Good Manufacturing

Practices (GMP) requirements for a food processing cen-

ter.

Some issues raised were the identification of spe-

cific commodities/sector to be catered by the processing

center and the proper lay-outing of the center. Meat proc-

essing, as the no. 1 priority of Mayor Madla, was identi-

fied together with the veggie-based noodles and other na-

tive delicacies as important commodities in the locality.

The DOST-FNRI staff suggested for the re-

layouting of the processing center in accordance with the

Food Safety standards and in compliance with GMP.

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan,

(PIA) -- Hinihikayat ng Provincial Health Of-

fice (PHO) ng Pamahalaang Panlalawigan ang

lahat na itaguyod ang ABKD o Aksyon Baran-

gay Kontra Dengue, isang pamamaraan na

ipinalabas ng Department of Health (DOH)

upang maiwasan ang pagdami ng lamok sa

mga kabahayan at bakuran. Kaugnay ito ng pag-obserba ng Dengue

Awareness Month ngayong buwan ng Hunyo.

Una, butasan, biyakin o lagyan ng lupa

ang mga lumang gulong upang hindi maipunan

ng tubig at pangitlugan ng lamok. Takpan ang

mga drum, timba at iba pang ipunan ng tubig

upang hindi pamahayan ng kiti-kiti at linisin ito

minsan sa isang linggo.

Palitan ang tubig ng plorera minsan sa

isang linggo. Itapon ang iba pang bagay na

maaaring pag-ipunan ng tubig at pangitlugan ng

lamok tulad ng lata, bote at tansan. Linisin ang

alulod ng bahay upang hindi maipunan ng tubig

at pamahayan ng kiti-kiti.

Magpatingin agad sa health center kung

may sinat na ng dalawang araw.

Base sa talaan ng PHO, umabot sa 429

ang naitalang kaso ng nagkasakit ng dengue

noong nakaraang taon mula sa Norte at Sur ng

lalawigan. Mula noong Enero hanggang Mayo

ngayong taon, umabot na sa 84 ang kaso ng den-

gue sa mga munisipyo.

Nagpalabas naman ng health advisory ang

PHO kung saan nakasaad ang mga impormas-

yong maaaring makatulong sa pagsugpo ng den-

gue.

Ang dengue ay isang sakit na naisasalin

sa tao sa pamamagitan ng kagat ng babaeng

lamok na “Aedes” na may dalang dengue virus.

Ang mga sintomas o mga palatandaan ng sakit na

dengue ay mataas at tuloy-tuloy na lagnat na tu-

matangal ng dalawa hanggang pitong araw; pa-

mumula ng balat sanhi ng mataas na lagnat; pag-

durugo ng ilong o gilagid; walang ganang ku-

main; pagkahilo at pagsusuka. (PIO/OCJ/LBR/

informed Sec. Montejo. “Each

agency has a very important

role in the program to signifi-

cantly reduce the number of

dengue cases among our

school children.”

The program has

identified 31 priority areas that

will receive the first batch of

OL Traps totaling some

wide. DOST produced the

initial batch of traps and has

transferred the production of

OL pellets to a private entre-

preneur.

DOST, through its

National Capital Region of-

fice, has also began training

teachers who will serve as

OL Trap coordinators. Said

coordinators learn the proce-

dures of using the OL Trap

and preparing monitoring re-

ports. They also learn more

about dengue and other anti-

dengue initiatives of the gov-

ernment.

“It’s not rocket sci-

ence,” said Department of

Education Undersecretary Je-

sus Lorenzo Mateo. “The OL

Trap is a very simple technol-

ogy but is effective in helping

decrease dengue cases among

schoolchildren.“

“We are happy that

DOST and the Department of

Health is partnering with De-

pEd in this project,” Mateo

added.

-- Inilunsad ang Enhanced Justice on Wheels

(EJOW) program na pinangunahan ng Supreme

Court (SC) sa harap ng bagong City Hall sa baran-

gay Guinobatan. Layon nitong mas higit na

mailapit sa mga mamamayan ang hukuman at ma-

pabilis na makamit ang hustisya. Layunin nitong mapabilis ang pagresolba ng

mga kaso at asunto sa mga hukuman sa Calapan at sa

buong lalawigan ng Silangang Mindoro.

Sinuportahan ito ng pamahalaang lungsod ng

Calapan, sa pakikipag-ugnayan ng Integrated Bar of

the Philippines (IBP) – Oriental Mindoro Chapter at

pamumuno ng pangulo nito na si Atty. Charlotte

Aguba-Goco at ng City Legal Department sa pangan-

gasiwa ni City Legal Officer Hospicio Laygo, Jr.

Hangad din ng naturang gawain na mapaigting

ang ugnayan ng bawat opisyal sa lahat ng hukuman sa

iba’t-ibang bahagi ng bansa upang lalo pang mapabilis

ang paghahatid ng hustisya sa mga nangangailangan

partikular sa mga mahihirap.

Pinamahalaan ang nasabing programa ng SC at

pinaunlakan ng ilang mahistrado na binubuo nina Jus-

tice Mariano Del Castillo, Justice Jose Perez, Deputy

Court Administrator Raul Villanueva at Court Admin-

istrator Jose Midas Marquez.

Nakiisa rin sa programa si Judge Manuel Luna,

Executive Judge ng Regional Trial Court (RTC) at

ang mga miyembro ng IBP-Oriental Mindoro Chapter.

Bahagi ng nabanggit na paglunsad ng pro-

grama, nagbigay ng Information Dissemination and

Dialogue para sa mga opisyales ng barangay kaugnay

ng mga ipinatutupad na batas sa kanilang nasasaku-

pan. Ito ay upang mas mapatatag ang barangay justice

sa lungsod at sa lalawigan.

Dagdag pa rito, nais ng Supreme Court na

matulungan ang bawat opisyal na makilala at maging

lubos ang pag-unawa sa mga batas na ipinatutupad sa

barangay.

hayag niya ang kanyang pagsuporta sa mga inobasyon

sa hukuman na isinasagawa sa bansa sa pangunguna

OL Traps to all public ele-

mentary and secondary

schools nationwide before

the rainy season comes.

“DOST will pro-

vide OL Trap kits to every

public school classroom all

over the country,” DOST

Sec. Mario Montejo said.

“OL Traps prevent the lar-

vae from maturing into den-

gue-carrying mosquitoes,

thus we aim to contain and

reduce the spread of the dis-

ease in places where mos-

quitoes congregate and

breed during daytime, like

classrooms."

The OL Trap is a

simple technology that kills

the eggs and larvae of the

female Aedes aegypti mos-

quito that carries the dengue

virus. The black container

attracts mosquitoes to lay

their eggs on the lawanit

strip soaked with the OL

pellet-water solution. The

OL pellets, made of organic

and non-toxic material, at-

tract mosquitoes and kill

their young, in effect reduc-

ing the number of the next

generation of mosquitoes.

"Born to Love and be Married" was the occasion's theme. It coincided

with the birthday celebration of the town's chief executive who turned 55.

Those who signed up for the mass wedding were couples who've lived to-

gether from one year to ten years without benefit of marriage.

Buenavista Mayor Russel S. Madrigal acted as the solemnizing officer,

Today is Thursday, karamihan sa mga nasa disyerto ay half-day laang from work, iyong medyo masuwerte, wala silang

pasok. And then bukas, Friday naman ay day-off, chance to do a lot of household chores: maglaba, maglinis ng kuwarto, kusina,

banyo, magluto, kumain, magpahinga habang nanonood ng satellite TV (sports or movies) or kung may kadutdutan - mga ilang

oras sa harap ng computer hanggang sa makaramdam ng antok. Life is so simple but hard for us OFWs dahil ganito laang naman

natin kung gugulin ang ating konting panahon kapag out of work. Siyempre pa, calling our families back home tops it all. Ku-

mustahan blues, bilin dine, bilin doon, pabili dine, pabili doon. That's how our life is pero despite of that, nandoon pa rin sa atin

na po sila. Ito po ang tinuturol natin kung bakit tayo kahit nasa malalayong bansa nagtatrabaho - ay nagkakaroon ng pag-

kakataong maikipagpalitan ng kuru-kuro sa kapwa natin mga ka-MOSAG on how they could simple start their own livelihood

projects. Sila na pong mga nauna nang magpundar ang makakapagsabi on how they feel ngayong nakikita na nila ang bunga ng

Tañada: “Ang taong bukas, 'di takot sa batas! Panahon na ng FOI!”

Following the heels of calls for greater transpar-

ency at the close of the Corona impeachment trial, Deputy

Speaker Lorenzo "Erin" R. Tañada III challenged his fel-

low legislators to do what the Senate does and move for

the immediate passage of the Freedom of Information

(FOI) Bill into law. "It should move at the same pace that

the House made former Chief Justice accountable in our

impeachment complaint."

Tañada lauded the developments in the Senate of

his priority advocacy, the FOI Bill or House Bill No. 53.

Stating that "the issues on transparency and accountability

have been the cornerstone of the bill. It was meant to

break the shroud of secrecy especially in the context of

public governance and leadership."

"Walang lugar sa ating pamahalaan ang pamu-

muno ng isang public official o karaniwang empleyado na

palaging pinagdududahan dahil walang malinaw na im-

pormasyong nanggagaling sa ating mga ahensya," Tañada

added.

"Ang mga taong hindi bukas sa katotohanan, ito

lang ang takot sa pagiging batas ng FOI bill. Panahon

nang ipasa ang FOI!" Tañada insisted.

The Senate version of the FOI has been signed by

22 Senators last Monday, and plenary debates com-

menced afterwards. Meanwhile the draft substitute

bill in the House, has been wallowing in the Com-

mittee on Public Information since February 2011

under Eastern Samar Rep. Ben Evardone, the Com-

mittee Chair.

The draft substitute bill, in its current version

has been the product of more than one year active

consultations with various interest groups, media

and broadcast owners, as well as the amendments

coming from the Communications Group of the

Aquino Administration. The Malacañang version

was submitted to the House at the midway through

the Corona impeachment trial early this year.

"Sa hinaba-haba man daw ng prusisyon, sa

approval din ng FOI ang huling tuntong. Ito ang da-

pat ang panghawakan ng bawat kinatawan ng ating

mamamayan sa Kongreso," Tañada expounded.

Deputy Speaker Tañada is the principal au-

thor of the FOI Bill whose passage was stymied un-

der the previous House leadership allied with Gloria

Macapagal-Arroyo. ###
