THE COLLECTS - 1st Sunday after Christmas (Page 159 BCP) Almighty God, you have poured upon us the new light of your incarnate Word: Grant that this light, enkindled in our hearts, may shine forth in our lives: through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The Holy Innocents (Page 183 BCP) We remember today, O God, the slaughter of the holy innocents of Bethlehem by King Herod. Receive, we pray, into the arms of your mercy all innocent victims; and by your great might frustrate the designs of evil tyrants and establish your rule of justice, love, and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

REFLECTION FIRST LESSON: In the opening lesson the prophet Nathan receives the Lord’s promise to David concerning the future of the kingdom.

1st LESSON: 7:30a.m. - Leonie Gilkes 9:15a.m. - David Worrell

FIRST LESSON (OLD TESTAMENT): Isaiah 61:10-62:3

I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall exult in my God; for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation, he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. For as the earth brings forth its shoots, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations. For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until her vindication goes forth as brightness, and her salvation as a burning torch. The nations shall see your vindication, and all the kings your glory; and you shall be called by a new name which the mouth of the Lord will give. You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God.

REFLECTION THE PSALM: A hymn of praise to the Lord who rules over nature and has shown faithfulness to Jerusalem and God’s people Israel.

PSALM: PSALM: PSALM: PSALM: 147 (7:30a.m. - Page 662 BCP)

1. O PRAISE the Lord, for it is a good thing to sing praises unto our God : yea, a joyful and pleasant thing it is to be thankful. 2. The Lord doth build up Jerusalem : and gather together the out-casts of Israel. 3. He healeth those that are broken in heart : and giveth medicine to heal their sickness. 4. He telleth the number of the stars : and calleth them all by their names. 5. Great is our Lord, and great is his power : yea, and his wisdom is infinite. 6. The Lord setteth up the meek : and bringeth the ungodly down to the ground. 7. O sing unto the Lord with thanksgiving : sing praises upon the harp unto our God; 8. Who covereth the heavens with clouds, and prepareth rain for the earth : and maketh the grass to grow upon the mountains, and herb for the use of men; 9. Who giveth fodder unto the cattle : and feedeth the young ravens that call upon him.

10. He hath no pleasure in the strength of an horse : neither delighteth he in any man’s legs. 11. But the Lord’s delight is in them that fear him : and put their trust in his mercy. 12. Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem : praise thy God, O Sion. 13. For he hath made fast the bars of thy gates : and hath blessed thy children within thee. 14. He maketh peace in thy borders : and filleth thee with the flour of wheat. 15. He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth : and his word runneth very swiftly. 16. He giveth snow like wool : and scattereth the hoar-frost like ashes. 17. He casteth forth his ice like morsels : who is able to abide his frost? 18. He sendeth out his word, and melteth them : he bloweth with his wind, and the waters flow. 19. He sheweth his word unto Jacob : his statutes and ordinances unto Israel. 20. He hath not dealt so with any nation : neither have the heathen knowledge of his laws.

REFLECTION SECOND LESSON: In this reading Paul explains what the role of the law has been and how, in our new relationship of faith, we have become heirs of the father.

2nd LESSON: 7:30a.m. - Victoria Husbands 9:15a.m. - Mothers’ Union

SECOND LESSON: SECOND LESSON: SECOND LESSON: SECOND LESSON: Galatians 3: 23-25, 4:4-7

Now before faith came, we were confined under the law, kept under restraint until faith should be revealed. So that the law was our custodian until Christ came, that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a custodian; But when the time had fully come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" So through God you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son then an heir.

GRADUAL HYMN - 91

REFLECTION THE GOSPEL: The Gospel opens with a hymn to God’s Word, the expression of God’s very being and the creative power of all life, who has now become flesh and lived among us. The Word is the Light of all humankind, and was witness to by John the Baptist. Although the world made by the Word, did not recognize the Word those who did believe in the Word have been given the right to become children of God. The law came through Moses, but grace and truth come through the only Son who makes the father known.

THE GOSPEL: THE GOSPEL: THE GOSPEL: THE GOSPEL: John 1:1-18

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God; all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came for testimony, to bear witness to the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness to the light. The true light that enlightens every man was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made rough him, yet the world knew him not. He came to his own home, and his own people received him not. But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God; who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father. (John bore witness to him, and cried, "This was he of whom I said, `He who comes after me ranks before me, for he was before me.'") And from his fulness have we all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God; the only

THE NICENE CREED - Page 104

Bidding Prayer Let us pray for the Church and for the world, glorifying and praising God.

Bless the worship of the Church, that it may be filled with reverence for the holy birth…Teach your faithful people to treasure the message of salvation and to ponder it in their hearts.

Give peace to the world, peace between nations and races, peace where people are in dispute…May the love of the Holy Family of Bethlehem draw all into the way that leads to eternal life.

Grant to us the light of faith given to the Shepherds, that we may make known the wonder of the nativity…As we rejoice at this time with our families and friends, make us truly grateful for the wonderful gift of the Holy Child.

Have mercy on all who are sad and lonely at this time, the sick and injured, the bereaved and those who are near to death…May the name of Jesus be their strength.

We pray for those who in this world gave thanks for the birth of their Lord and have passed through death to be born to eternal life in him…May our worship this day be joined with theirs.

We offer our prayers through Christ, given the name of Jesus in his humanity. Amen.

Persons needing envelopes for 2015 are asked to give their names to the Rector. Thanks to all members who have adjusted to the monthly envelope system. This continues to be working well, as we have been able to reduce the cost of the envelopes and also the wastage. The persons responsible for the counting of money on Sundays are finding the job much easier.

We are in the process of assembling a tent to house the playground for the Day Care Centre. The tent has been donated by Mrs. Regine Sixt and her Charity “Drying Little Tears” will provide the equipment for the area.

Smile: It was Christmas Eve in at the meat counter and a woman was anxiously picking over the last few remaining turkeys in the hope of finding a large one. In desperation she called over a shop assistant and said, 'Excuse me. Do these turkeys get any bigger?' 'No, madam, 'he replied, 'they're all dead.'
