Response: It is right to give God thanks and praise. Purify us, O God, by your daily visitation, so that when your Son Jesus Christ comes, he will find in us a mansion prepared for himself. We thank you for this time of waiting. We thank you that our time of waiting for Jesus is almost over. May we await the Light of the World with joyful anticipation.
Leader: We bless you, Eternal Father, giver of all good things, for you sent your Son into the world not to condemn, but that the world might be saved through him. Help us to celebrate His birth with joy and faith that we may be drawn close to him, God with us, Christ our King.

A retiring collection will be taken after the services on this Sunday to collect money to purchase flowers for Christmas and also items for hampers.
1. Tickets are available for our Flower and Garden Festival and we need persons to help distribute and sell them.
2. The new CD done by our Choir is available, the cost is $40.00. The Choir looks forward to your support.
I am looking for persons to form an Altar Guild, with specific reference to looking after the linens and items used at the altar. In previous years persons were allocated a month to help with the washing of the linens. Many of these persons have died and the burden now falls on a few persons. If you are interested in this particular ministry, kindly give your name to the Rector, or indicate your willingness to help in this important area. This will be followed by a meeting to put these efforts and ideas in place.

The Old Testament lesson presents an ancient prophecy which foresees the day when a
new ruler shall come forth for Israel out of David’s city of Bethlehem in Ephrathah.
Psalm: 80
A lament and a plea to the Lord, the shepherd of Israel, that God will turn away divine
anger and restore the people.
Second Lesson (Epistle): Hebrews 10:5-10 The New Testament reading describes the purpose of Jesus’ coming into the world—to
make an offering in his body for our sanctification.
The Gospel: Luke 1:39-49 (50-56) The Gospel tells of Mary’s visit to her kinswoman Elizabeth, and this humble woman’s
song of thanksgiving to the saviour God who has called her to be the mother of the
Lord.. Elizabeth is herself pregnant with a child who will be John the Baptist. Even in her
womb this baby is joyful in Mary’s presence. All generations will call Mary blessed.
First Lesson (Old Testament): Micah 5:2-4
You, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose origin is from of old, from ancient days. Therefore he shall give them up until the time when she who is in travail has brought forth; then the rest of his brethren shall return to the people of Israel. And he shall stand and feed his flock in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God. And they shall dwell secure, for now he shall be great to the ends of the earth.
Psalm: 80:1-7 (as found in Hymns Ancient & Modern)
1. HEAR, O thou Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a sheep : shew thyself also, thou that sittest upon the cherubims. 2. Before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasses : stir up thy strength, and come, and help us. 3. Turn us again, O God : shew the light of thy countenance, and we shall be whole. 4. O Lord God of hosts : how long wilt thou be angry with thy people that prayeth? 5. Thou feedest them with the bread of tears : and givest them plenteousness of tears to drink. 6. Thou hast made us a very strife unto our neighbours : and our enemies laugh us to scorn. 7. Turn us again, thou God of hosts : shew the light of thy countenance, and we shall be whole.
Second Lesson (Epistle): Hebrews 10:5-10
When Christ came into the world, he said, "Sacrifices and offerings thou hast not desired, but a body hast thou prepared for me; in burnt offerings and sin offerings thou hast taken no pleasure. Then I said, `Lo, I have come to do thy will, O God,' as it is written of me in the roll of the book." When he said above, "Thou hast neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings" (these are offered according to the law), then he added, "Lo, I have come to do thy will." He abolishes the first in order to establish the second. And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
The Gospel: Luke 1:39-49 (50-56)
In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a city of Judah, and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy
visitation, so that when your Son Jesus Christ comes, he will find in us a mansion

Spirit and she exclaimed with a loud cry, "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, when the voice of your greeting came to my ears, the babe in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfilment of what was spoken to her from the Lord." And Mary said, "My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden. For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed; for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. [And his mercy is on those who fear him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with his arm, he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts, he has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted those of low degree; he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent empty away. He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his posterity for ever." And Mary remained with her about three months, and returned to her home.]
Bidding Prayer
Joyful in the presence of the Lord, let us pray for the Church and for the world. Prepare the Church to receive with joy and thanksgiving the coming of the Lord at his Nativity…May all Christian people join with Mary his Mother to proclaim his greatness. Raise up the lowly ones of the world and give them fullness of life…Be merciful to those who are deceived by power and wealth…Do not send the rich empty away. As we prepare again to celebrate this Christmas time, bless us, our families, friends and neighbours, with purity of spirit and holiness of desire…Shield us from selfish pleasure, make us mindful of the needs of many in our community. We pray for all who are hungry, whether for food to sustain their bodies or faith to nourish their souls…Comfort and heal those who through sickness or poverty can feel little joy at this time. We pray for the departed who have magnified their Lord on earth and now praise him in his heavenly Kingdom…May they find their eternal joy in the company of the Blessed Virgin and all the saints. We pray in the name of Christ, Son of God and son of Mary. Amen.
