Design TechnologyOur Technical team has expert knowledge in product design and material selection. Along with our practical engineering expertise and the latest diagnostic and analytical tools we are able to develop solutions to customers’ needs. Through our design processes we obtain the results our customers require for the HPHT envi-ronments which are increasingly in demand.

Concept Design

Rubberatkins prides itself in its ability to create elastomeric solutions in the world’s most difficult environments.

Finite Elastomer Analysis

Rubberatkins uses FEA software to optimise the initial design stage and to troubleshoot any potential problems. We ensure maximum accuracy by performing in-house testing of the specific materials.

With FEA we are able to:

• Understand the deformation of elastomers

• Improve selection of the correct material for individual applications

• Optimise component design prior to cutting steel tooling

• Evaluate failures

• Redesign existing components to overcome known problems

• Import all standard CAD export files for analysis

• Utilise our in-house materials testing facilities to model Linear & Non-Linear behaviour

Rubber TechnologyRubberatkins in-house Rubber Technologists develop specialist materials for individual applications. Rubberatkins’ R&D department has designed and tested over 1500 compounds.

Compounds are designed to suit a wide range of environmental conditions:

• High Temperature

• High Pressure

• Anti-Vibration

• Anti-Extrusion

• High & Low Coefficient of Friction

• Explosive Decompression Resistance

• High Compressive Force

• High Abrasion Resistance

• NORSOK Approval & NACE Approved Compounds

• Chemical & Gas Resistance (incl H2S)

Failure Analysis

Rubberatkins provide a unique Indepen-dent Elastomer Analysis, by which we can determine material characterisation using thermal analytical techniques. This knowledge allows us to understand the compatibility of elastomers with chemi-cals and gases as well as their physical properties and chemical make-up which can assist in evaluating reasons for failure of components.

Elastomer Testing Capabilities

Rubberatkins laboratory has a range of analytical equipment capable of testing for all material properties:

• Tensile Properties

• Bond Strength

• Stress Strain Curves and Compounds

• Fluid Resistance

• Swell Testing

• Chemical Compatibility Testing

• Abrasion Resistance

• Carbon Dioxide Decompression

• A Complete Range of Equipment for Material Analysis:

TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis) cou-pled with IR (Infrared Spectroscopy)

DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry)

TMA (Thermomechanical Analysis)

DMA (Dynamic Mechanical Analysis)

ManufacturingM a n u f a c t u r i n g i n A b e r d e e n , Rubberatkins is equipped with prec i s ion mould ing presses capable of moulding up to 1.25 metres x 1.25 metres (4.1 feet x 4.1 feet).

All Design and Manufacturing is covered by our ISO 9001 Registration.

Product Testing

Testing a new product can be an expensive and time consuming process. Having a failure while the product is in use is even worse. Rubberatkins test house can prove product performance negating the need for full tool testing.

Rubberatkins test facility tests up to 30,000psi and 650°F (343°C) and, with multiple test cells, testing lead-time is dramatically reduced.

Rubberatkins perform testing on packer elements to ISO 14310 V3 & V0. Alterna-tively test procedures can be tailored to better represent the individual conditions.

Inevitably some products fail during testing. Rubberatkins analytical experience allows us to accurately de-termine the root cause failure and redesign the product.
