A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 12, 2020

“Thus says the Lord: Just as from the heavens the rain and snow come down and do not return there till they have watered the earth, making it fertile and fruitful, giving seed to the one who sows, and bread to the one who eats, so shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth, my word shall not return to me void…achieving the end for which I sent it.” As our own gardens are bursting with colorful flowers and the vegetable plants continue to grow, the image of the seed, fertility and fruitfulness are so appropriate. WELCOME BACK TO MASS

Tuesday, July 14, 2020 St. Kateri Tekakwitha 8:00AM Elizabeth Troy Wednesday, July 15, 2020 St. Bonaventure **6:30PM Parish Anniversary Mass For the Living and Deceased Parishioners Thursday, July 16, 2020 Our Lady of Mount Carmel 8:00AM Joseph McElvaney Friday, July 17, 2020 8:00AM John & Anna Rehnert Saturday, July 18, 2020 **4:00PM Colleen Beaumont (Queen of the Universe Cemetery, Weather Permitting) Sunday, July 19, 2020 Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time 8:30AM Deacon John Pogash 10:30AM Ann Louise Bowman

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK The prophet Isaiah could not have had the scientific understanding we have today of the weather and the water cycle, but he nailed it in the metaphor we hear in our first reading for this Sunday. Water falls from the sky in the form of precipitation, provides hydration for plants and trees so they bear fruit, collects in rivers and lakes to provide a necessary resource for humans and animals, then returns to the heavens having nourished and sustained life here on earth. So too does the Word of God. When spoken from the heavens, it has a creative and transformative effect. It does God’s Will here on earth. It nourishes us and sustains us even as it rises back to heaven to continue the circle of life.

**CHANGE IN MASS SCHEDULE Wednesday we will celebrate the 12th Anniversary of our parish with Mass at 6:30PM. There will be no morning Mass that day. PARISH MASS SCHEDULES & SACRAMENTS IN PART A OF THE GREEN PHASE No one is obligated or pressured to attend Mass at this time! Do not come to church if one feels ill! Still must wear masks in the presence of others! Still must maintain social distance!

Saturday Open Air Vigil Mass at Queen of Universe Cemetery. Please arrive at 3:30PM; Mass at 4PM. No Mass in event of rain. Please bring a lawn chair, bug repellent, and a hat for the sun. Sunday Masses: 8:30AM & 10:30AM. Doors open 30 minutes before Mass.

Please stay home if you feel ill or have symptoms of the Coronavirus or have been exposed to someone who is suspected of COVID-19. SPECIAL COLLECTION Each year our diocese and our parish take up a special collection for the Mission Cooperative to help promote the physical and spiritual well-being to the Catholic Church in the Third World Nations. This year when we were informed that it had been cancelled because of the Pandemic, we cancelled the envelope that normally comes with the June-July mailing. This year there will be no missionary to speak at Masses but it is important that we support their efforts. Therefore, the envelope will be included with the August-September mailing. We ask you to drop the Mission Co-op envelope in the basket anytime during August. This year our Parish’s efforts will benefit the Dominican Friars.

Many Capital Improvements have been made without a plea for additional financial help. While many people are still away from church because of Covid-19, we desperately need new floor covering for the church and to replace an inadequate sound system. We would just like to make you aware of our parish’s needs.

PRAYER AGAINST CORONAVIRUS

Lord Jesus Christ, our Divine Physician, we ask you to guard and protect us from Coronavirus COVID-19 and all serious illness. For all that have died from it, have mercy; for those that are ill now, bring healing. For those searching for a remedy, enlighten them; for medical caregivers helping the sick, strengthen and shield them. For those working to contain the spread, grant them success; for those afraid, grant peace. May your precious blood be our defense and salvation. By your grace, may you turn the evil of disease into memories of consolation and hope. May we always fear the contagion of sin more than any illness. We abandon ourselves to your infinite mercy. Amen. - Pedro de la Cruz www.CatholicPrayerCards.org We continue to add more videos of Masses, messages, and other specials to our YouTube channel and Facebook. Until we go completely green, Mass will continue to be videotaped and added to YouTube on Sunday afternoons. ST. CLAIR ECUMENICAL FOOD PANTRY Under the direction of Pastor Jack Murray of the Wade UCC Church, the churches of St. Clair are going to create a food pantry to assist the needy in our community. Volunteers are needed to help with the distribution of the food. If you can help, call 570-429-1951 and leave a message. Location: St. Clair-Wade United Methodist Church, 23 N. Front St., St. Clair. Areas Served: St. Clair, New Castle Twp., Arnots Addition, Mill Creek and Dieners Hill. When: Even months, first Thursday, 11am-noon, next one is August 6. EFFECTS OF COVID-19 In a recent article from The New York Times that appeared in the Republican Herald, it was explained that as time goes on we see that Covid-19 affects not only the lungs but also the kidneys, the heart, and the circulatory system. In some individuals, it depletes essential cells and weakens the immune system. Please wear a mask whenever you leave home and always maintain social distance. If someone in your home becomes ill with COVID-19, it’s important to protect all members of your household from becoming ill as well. Tips to protect yourself and other household members include:

• Separate yourself. Limit contact with the ill person as much as possible—while still caring for the person who is ill. If you can stay in a separate area of the house and use a different bedroom and bathroom, that would be ideal.

• Make sure that you have good ventilation—like an open window. Doctors have discovered that the respiratory droplets can linger in the air for several hours.

• Separate commonly used items. Items such as dishes, utensils, cups, towels and bedding should be thoroughly washed with hot water

and bleach (when appropriate). Use disposable gloves when handling contaminated items. Also, the ill person should use the same items after thoroughly cleaned vs. mixing the items other household members may use.

• Use a lined trash can to dispose of the ill person’s trash separately than other trash.

• Disinfect and clean frequently. Items to daily disinfect include: countertops, refrigerator handles, tabletops, doorknobs, cabinet and drawer hardware, desks, bedside tables, light switches, remote controls, computer/tablets/keyboards, headphones, cell phones, sink faucets, toilet handles, and soap dispensers. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has a list of cleaning products that are safe to use around the house. Also, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) offers tips on how to effectively clean.

If sharing a bathroom with an ill household member, disinfect the area after each use. Wear a mask and gloves and wait as long as possible before entering to clean the bathroom. • Wear a face mask and gloves when interacting with the ill household member. Also, the ill person should wear a mask when anyone is in their area. • Minimize face-to-face and hand-to-hand contact by placing meals and drinks outside of the door vs. handing the items directly to the ill person. • Maintain open communication with the ill person’s physician. Keep the physician updated on current symptoms to determine if hospitalization is needed. • If you are living with someone who has COVID-19, it’s important to quarantine yourself for a minimum of 14 days. • Monitor your own health for symptoms for COVID-19. * It’s important to stay current with all information and guidance provided by the CDC, your physician, and your local health department. *
