(Dr) Prem Fernando Email: [email protected] 142, Oxford Rd, Kidlington, OX5 1DZ, Tel: (01865) 377093 Part of the Arch Diocese of Birmingham, Registered Charity Number 234216 Parish School: Temp. Reflecting through the readings and preparing for this weekend what I wish to highlight out of many, is the entrance antiphon of the missalette (the sheet with the prayers and the readings for Sun- day). It is a typical child’s prayer and I suppose whether heard or not, said or not, it is eve- ry child’s prayer that rises from the very depths of their hearts. They cry for love, security, attention and guidance!! In fact any development psychologists would agree on them as basic human needs! Children depend on the parents and the society for this provision. As parents; familied or not, with children or without - its immaterial, we are all ‘parents’ to our children and we would want to protect them as the apple of our eye. The sacrifices you parents make, the dedication you have, battering you take and the extent to which you go to, in taking good care of your children is remarkable. Often I wondered how you do it. That again I trust, you would not want to do it at the expense and dignity of other children, liking your children more depriving another. I am sure you must have shown much love and care to others even when you might have not shown in the same way to your own. There is something special in that kind of love and it has inspired the world throughout history. It has hinted at a possibility of changing our human course. Now, we could have such inspiring love only if we ourselves have experienced such love. But how could we, if we do not see ourselves as Children of God and so see in this one God the Father (excusing the human limitations of expression and conception) the parental care. Could we say that this entrance antiphon is our own prayer, morning and evening? Does it make sense and any meaning to us? If it does well done, bravo! Looking at my own brothers and sisters, and my friends how they bring their children up I have marvelled as to how they cope. Many things at the same time, running here and there, wanting everything and anything, second to none and first to everyone. Often load- ed with such junk, and worst, unhealthy and unconsciously distorting our own children who depend on us for guidance and direction. Is there some quiet, reflective time! I know everyone tells what to do and not to do, and how to do, probably you had enough of it! But wouldn’t it be lovely to feel that we do not have to do everything what others do, have what others have and so prioritise! Can we give to God what he deserves! PRAYER TO THE HOLY TRINITY FOR THE PREPARATION OF MASS Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, come to us and renew us as we gather to celebrate this Sunday Mass. As we connue our pilgrimage of life, help us to become beer Chrisans on earth so that we may rejoice with you for ever in Heaven. To the Holy Trinity be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
