Marietta is still looking for its first win of the season after fall- ing to Capital last week by the score of 42-13. The Pioneers are 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the OAC. Top-ranked Mount Union blanked Muskingum in New Concord last week 37-0. The Purple Raiders enter tonight’s game 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the OAC. THE COACHES: Marietta’s Andy Waddle is in his first season at the helm of the Pioneer football program. He is the 29th head coach in program history. Waddle, a 2003 graduate of Wittenberg University, spent the last eight seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater, including the last seven as the defensive coordinator. The Tigers won four North Coast Athletic Conference championships and made trips to the NCAA tournament during Waddle’s time at Wittenberg. Mount Union is coached by Vince Kehres, who is also in his first season as the head coach of the Purple Raiders. Kehres, a 1998 graduate of Mount Union, spent 13 years on the Purple Raider coaching staff including the last eight as defensive coordinator before taking over for his father Larry Kehres. As either a player or coach, Kehres has been a part of 10 of Mount Union’s 11 national championships. ALL-TIME SERIES: Saturday marks the 52rd time that the two teams will meet on the gridiron. Mount Union holds a 42-8-1 lead in the series. The series began in 1933 with Mount Union winning 20-0. The Purple Raiders have won 33 straight against the Pioneers dating back to 1980. Marietta’s last victory over Mount Union was a 20-6 decision in 1977. LAST MEETING: Mount Union led 24-0 at halftim en route to a 52-0 win at Don Drumm Stadium. The Purple Raider defense held Marietta to zero yards rush- ing and sacked the Pioneer quarterback nine times in the game. T.J Lattimore carried the ball 18 times for 100 yards and two touchdowns.
