Objectives

• Survey Point• Project Base Point• Set up Shared Coordinates• Shared Sites and manage Locations• Single building sites• Multiple building sites

Page 5: The Revit Theory of Relativity: Understanding Shared Coordinates

AutoCAD Ruined us!

• Does Revit have a 0,0?• YES!• Where is it?• About right there…

Page 6: The Revit Theory of Relativity: Understanding Shared Coordinates

Project Base and Survey Points

• Revit projects do not have AN origin… • They have TWO origin points!

Page 7: The Revit Theory of Relativity: Understanding Shared Coordinates

Survey Point

• The Survey Point is the coordinates in the World • It is “shared” by all buildings on the site• It defaults to 0,0,0 • You CAN move it!

Page 8: The Revit Theory of Relativity: Understanding Shared Coordinates

Project Base Point

• The Project Base Point is the local “Internal” coordinates• It is used ONLY by the building• It should match the building form and layout• You CAN move it!

Internal and Shared Coordinates

Page 10: The Revit Theory of Relativity: Understanding Shared Coordinates

Positioning Tools

• Mirror Project• Rotate Project North• Specify Coordinates at a Point• Report Shared Coordinates

Locations and Sites

Page 12: The Revit Theory of Relativity: Understanding Shared Coordinates

Single Pair of Files

• Create two files: site and building• Create building geometry with convenient orientation to sheets

• Link building to site• Link center to center• Move and/or Rotate the linked file

• Establish the shared coordinates• Duplicate or Rename the shared Site• Save

• Cross-link• Link by Shared Coordinates

Page 13: The Revit Theory of Relativity: Understanding Shared Coordinates

Multiple Files

• Create three or more files: site and building A, Building B, etc• Create building geometry with convenient orientation to sheets

• Link building A to site• Link center to center• Move and/or Rotate the linked file

• Establish the shared coordinates• Duplicate or Rename the shared Site• Save

• Repeat• Create additional shared Sites

• Cross-link• Link by Shared Coordinates
