WHAT IS THE FEAST OF THE EPIPHANY ABOUT?WHAT IS THE FEAST OF THE EPIPHANY ABOUT?WHAT IS THE FEAST OF THE EPIPHANY ABOUT?WHAT IS THE FEAST OF THE EPIPHANY ABOUT? According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church #528: The Epiphany is the manifestation of Jesus manifestation of Jesus manifestation of Jesus manifestation of Jesus as Messiah of Israel, Son of God and Saviour of the world. the great feast of Epiphany celebrates the adoration of Jesus by the wise men (magi) from the East, together with his baptism in the Jordan and the wedding feast at Cana in Galilee.

In the magi, representatives of the neighbouring pagan religions, the Gospel sees the first-fruits of the nations, who welcome the good news of salvation through the Incarnation. The magi's coming to Je-rusalem in order to pay homage to the king of the Jews shows that they seek in Israel, in the messi-anic light of the star of David, the one who will be king of the nations.

Their coming means that pagans can discover Jesus and worship him as Son of God and Saviour of the world only by turning towards the Jews and receiving from them the messianic promise as con-tained in the Old Testament. The Epiphany shows that “the full number of the nations” now takes its “place in the family of the patriarchs”, and acquires Israelitica dignitas (is made “worthy of the heri-tage of Israel”).

FEAST DAY OF THE MOST FEAST DAY OF THE MOST FEAST DAY OF THE MOST FEAST DAY OF THE MOST HOLY NAME OF JESUS HOLY NAME OF JESUS HOLY NAME OF JESUS HOLY NAME OF JESUS ---- JANUARY 3 JANUARY 3 JANUARY 3 JANUARY 3

St. Paul in his Letter to the Philip-pians wrote, “So that at Jesus’ name every knee must bend in the heavens, on the earth and under the earth, and every tongue pro-claim to the glory of God the Fa-ther: Jesus Christ is Lord” (2:10-11). Just as a name gives identity to a person and also reflects a person’s life, the name of Jesus reminds the hearer of who Jesus is and what He has done for us. Keep in mind that the name Jesus means “Yahweh saves” or “Yahweh is salvation.”

It’s a shame that the lovable name of Jesus, so pow-erful and salvific, is so often invoked in vain or in

blasphemy. To more greatly honour the name of Je-To more greatly honour the name of Je-To more greatly honour the name of Je-To more greatly honour the name of Je-sus, ensure that you and your family avoid making sus, ensure that you and your family avoid making sus, ensure that you and your family avoid making sus, ensure that you and your family avoid making
