MARCH FOR LIFE 2019
December 29th and 30th Page Three
“Because you are God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves
with heartfelt mercy, with kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear
with one another; forgive whatever grievances you have against one
another. Forgive as the Lord has forgiven you. Over all these virtues put on
love, which binds the rest together and makes them perfect… Joseph went to
the region in Galilee. There he settled in a town called Nazareth.”
We are still admiring the many gifts of Christmas. The packages have been opened and
their contents displayed. There are gifts you still have to be shared with others. You did
not deliver them yet. They are the virtues enumerated by St. Paul in his letter. Surely
there is someone waiting to receive your gift of patience, humility and kindness. It is not
too late to make sure they receive it. The gift of love is the gift wrap, bow or ribbon to
bring everything together.
Can’t you see the Holy Family, settling down after their journey from Bethlehem to
Egypt, happy to take a few minutes to relax and be glad that they have a home. As this
special family began to accustom themselves to a new experience, they surely must have
been glad the infant Son was with them. As we settle, as we approach a new year, may we
find the same Lord as the center of our attention with our family in our home.

READINGS FOR NEXT SUNDAY
First Reading: Isaiah 60:1-6 Isaiah rejoices over the light and glory that will shine upon Jerusalem. He describes how the wealth of nations will be brought to Jerusalem, and travelers will arrive bearing gifts and praising God.
Second Reading: Ephesians 3:2-3a, 5-6 Paul explains to the Ephesians that the Gentiles are now co-heirs with the Jews. Through Jesus, they became members of the same body. Therefore, they would receive everything God had promised the Jewish converts if they followed Christ's teachings.
Gospel: Matthew 2:1-12 Astrologers from the east came looking for the newborn king of the Jews, which greatly disturbed King Herod. Herod wanted to kill Jesus, and asked the astrologers to return and tell him where Jesus was. The astrologers found Jesus and brought him gifts, but received a message in a dream telling them not to return to Herod.

A Prayer for Families We bless your name, O Lord,
for sending your own incarnate Son, to become part of a family, so that, as he lived its life,
he would experience its worries and its joys.
We ask you, Lord, to protect and watch over this family, so that in the strength of your grace its members may enjoy prosperity,
possess the priceless gift of your peace, and, as the Church alive in the home,
bear witness in this world to your glory.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, Holy Family of Nazareth, watch over all families and be for them
an example of love and goodness. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Thank you to all the won d erf ul bakers who so g e n e r o u s l y contributed to our annual Christmas Cookie Project. Our friends at
Lounsberry Meadow and our homebound parishioners were so grateful for the Christmas cheer delivered by Sr. Elsa and her team. We are so grateful for your gifts of kindness and thoughtfulness.

FAITH FORMATION
ALTAR SERVERS NEEDED Students in 3rd grade and beyond who are interested in training to be an Altar Server are encouraged to have a parent contact the parish office to let us know so that training can be set up for you. What a wonderful choice to begin the new year serving at
holy Mass! Serving at the Altar is a great gift to Jesus and this community and will deepen your love for Jesus in the Holy Eucharist.
Our church is open daily from 7:30am to 9:00pm, closing on Saturday and Sunday after the evening Mass. On the third Friday of each month we have Adoration and the praying of the Rosary particularly focused on families – come, bring your children and grandchildren and teach them to speak to Jesus present in the Blessed Sacrament. On First Fridays we have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament after the 8:30am Mass through the night until 8:00am on Saturday. If you are awake because you have many concerns, come talk to Him. Jesus is absolutely and truly present in the Most Blessed Sacrament – many, many Saints became Saints because they knew and responded to this truth.
“Do you realize that Jesus is there…especially for you- for you alone? He burns with the desire to come into your heart.” St. Therese of Lisieux
