The Rotary Club of Acton Serving Acton, Rockwood & surrounding areas
The Minutes of our Rotary Club Meeting of Tuesday, April 2, 2013
President-Elect Bill Beaton presided.
The Rotary Grace was offered by all Rotarians and this was followed by a Toast to the Queen.
Nine members were in the house.
GENERAL
President Dick Crane is hospitalized in
Milton and is undergoing many tests to
determine exactly what has led to the
lack of sensation in his hands and feet.
A Board meeting was held prior to our
April 2 meeting, chaired by Bill B.
Congratulations to our new Rotarian Bob
Hammond who was inducted into the
Rotary world and our club. Bob’s
enthusiasm, drive and smile are
welcomed by all.
We look forward to the return of
vacationing members next week. Our
thoughts go out to members under the
weather and we look forward to their
return to health.
THE FALL BEEF DRAW
The members of the New Fundraising Ideas
Committee have decided to bring back the
previously popular Beef Draw, and to hold it
at the Acton Fall Fair. The committee has met
and will work to iron out further details and
report back.
Rotarian Bill (B) has contacted George
Henderson re: booth availability.
Rotarian Robert is investigating sources and
prices of beef.
Rotarian Bill (B) will look after procurement
of tickets. The price will be $5 per ticket or
$20 per book of 5 tickets.

ROTARY ADVENTURE IN CITIZENSHIP (RAIC)
Alexandra Armstrong is Acton Rotary’s
representative at the RAIC in Ottawa April
28 thru May 1,
Among her assignments, Alexandra has
prepared a video entitled “What does being
a Canadian mean to you?”, and this can be
seen on
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W01fR
5ihtTs .
Alexandra’s parents have advised that they
will take her to the airport and back, so we
will no longer have that responsibility.
PYTHON’S PIT – March 23
Congratulations to the winners. After much
deliberation in the high school section, the first
place winner of $2,500.00 was Ryan Muil of
Christ the King Catholic Secondary School in
Georgetown, the creator of Muil-E’s Hot Sauce.
Second place and winners of $1,500.00 were
Pamela Kitching and Salina Jackson for Heels
with New Heights from Acton High School.
This competition was the inaugural edition and
shows promise that it will continue next year
RECORD & MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS STORAGE
It had previously been mentioned that
records and miscellaneous items
(equipment, banners, furniture) are
spread out amongst various members,
and we collectively have lost track of
them. This not only puts us in a
vulnerable position if members leave, but
also means that we could have useful
assets that we don’t know about.
President Dick has now have received
lists from all members. Due to the
medical complications that Dick is
experiencing, this project will be on hold
and will be reviewed at a later date.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS CURLING ATHLETES IN ACTON
We have received a request for continued support for the newly formed Special Olympic Curling
Group. The club believes this is an important program for our community and with the assistance
of the Acton Curling Club and their facility, we should once again provide financial support.
Moved by Rotarian Fred and seconded by Bill (V), support for $500.00 - Carried
CHARITABLE STATUS & PAYPAL ACCOUNTS
Treasurer Robert has been working to
determine what has to be done in order to
obtain a facility that will allow us to
collect payments via credit cards. The
solution for our club is to use the services
of Intuit Canada. The Board of Directors
has approved Robert and Bill (B) to
proceed on required paperwork quickly.
This credit card service should be in place
in time for the Spring Gala & Auction
Rotarian Glenn has continued his
investigation into what is involved in the
charitable status project. More to follow.

SPRING GALA – April 26
Canvassing instructions and lists
have been passed out to all
members and aggressive
canvassing has started.
All members are urged to work
hard to make this our most
successful fundraiser ever. Brian
will require lists of donated product
starting next week. Follow-up with
contacts is required by each
member.
Robert distributed tickets to those
in attendance. Sell – Sell – Sell.
ACTON ROTARY’S SIXTY-FIFTH (65) ANNIVERSARY DINNER
ACTON’S SATURDAY TRUNK SALE
Rotarian Robert reports that approvals for the use of the Hide
House/Go Station property is proceeding well and we expect
to be able to service the majority of Saturday work shifts and
‘max-out’ our revenue from this project. Robert will present a
work ‘booking’ sheet in the next few weeks.
Saturday, October 19, 2013 is
now booked with the Acton
Town Hall Center for our club
celebration. Rotarian Bob has
developed a spread flow sheet to
track our progress to a
successful evening. Invitation
lists are under development.
Food catering considerations
and guest speakers are being
discussed.
More details will follow.

Moved by Rotarian Bob MacKinnon and seconded by
Rotarian Bob Hammond - $300.00. Carried.
ACTON ROTARY’S INTERNATIONAL PROJECT
Moved by Rotarian Herb and seconded by Rotarian Bill
(V) $2,500.00. Carried.
Last year, Acton Rotary
sponsored an evening BBQ in
the parking lot of St. Alban’s
Church. These BBQ’s are held
the 3rd
. Friday of each of the
summer months. We have been
asked once again to host an
evening and provide the
supplies and manpower. Feed
the hungry – a worthy project.
We hope to host on Friday, June
21 (to be confirmed).
The Cameroon Sport Field
project is a success and a further
commitment for 2013 funding is
being requested.
Rotarian Herb will follow-up
and advise Treasurer Robert
when to ‘cut the cheque’. Funds
are considered available in mid-
May.

50/50 DRAW
Continuing to grow, our
marble draw now totals
$135.00
With 28 white marbles and
one black marble in the bag.
New Rotarian Bob pulled
the lucky ticket and Kim
won the chance to pull the
elusive black marble from
the bag. Alas, there was not
to be a big winner this week.
And now, the pot will
continue to grow and grow.
With nothing further for the good of Rotary, we stood adjourned at 8:22 p.m.
