JAPAN ATTACKS PEARL HARBOR

DECEMBER 7, 1941

PRESIDENT ROOSEVELTADDRESSES CONGRESS

AFTER A VOTE OF 82-0 IN THE SENATE AND A 388-1 VOTE IN THE HOUSE IN FAVOR OF DECLARING WAR ON JAPANPRESIDENT ROOSEVELT SIGNSTHE DECLERATION OF WAR ON DECEMBER 8, 1941.

1942

The US reports a total of 44,143 total of men killed, wounded or missing

The woman’s first Air Force service (WASP) is established is established in the United States.

The first nuclear chain reaction is discovered by Professor Fermi and a team of scientists begin working under the name of the Manhattan Engineering District.

1943

The first Quebec summit opens with the allied plans for the invasion of France being approved by Roosevelt and Churchill.

Plan have been made for the invasion of Europe and its post-war reconstruction

1944

Total U.S. casualties so far are put at 19,499 killed, 45,545 wounded, 26,339 missing and 26,754 captured.

President Roosevelt is elected for a fourth term and Harry S. Truman becomes the Vice-President.

Total U.S. war casualties are now reported to have passed the 500,000 mark.

The United States issues its casualty figures

• 135,323 killed

• 362,824 wounded

•75,844 missing

• 65, 146 captured

APRIL 1945

PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT DIES OF AMASSIVE CEREBRAL HEMORAGE INWARM SPRINGS, GEORGIA.

VICE PRESIDENT HARRY TRUMAN IS SWORN IS AS THE 23RD PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

AUGUST 1945

A U.S. b-29 “Engola Gay,”drops a three metre long Atomic Bomb, “Little Boy” on Hiroshima, Japan.

The attack killed 140,000 Japanese.

"Little Boy" unit rests on a trailer cradle in a pit below the open bomb bay doors of the B-29 Superfortress bomber "Enola Gay" on the 509th Composite Group base at Tinian Island in the Marianas Islands in 1945. Little Boy was 3 m (10 ft) long, and weighed 4,000 kg (8,900 lb), but only carried contained 64 kg (141 lbs) of uranium which would be used to create a nuclear chain reaction, and resulting explosion. AUGUST 9, 1945

• The second Atomic Bomb was dropped, “Fat Man,” was dropped on Nagasacki, Japan by the B-29, “Box Car.”

• 113,000 people die. Which is two thirds of the cities Population.

•Japan surrenders on August 14, 1945

•The surrender will be signed on August 31, 1945In Tokyo, Japan
