It was wonderful to see so many grandparents, parents and family members attend the different shows and support our children. We look forward to sharing the photos and video with you when they become available. Brisbane Catholic Education have recently updated the media consent and that was sent via a parent slip last week. It asks parents to indicate if they agree with their current permissions. I encourage you to read this carefully as it is very explicit with what the permissions involve. Next week, we will be filming for a promotional video. We will only be selecting children who have Broad/Public permission. If your child has this permission and you don’t wish them to be involved, please email the school office. Recently, I read a blog from the Presentation Sisters where some of the key messages included: The courage for encounter We look for leadership, inspiration and reassurance, as well as some confirmation that what we do and how we are inspired to act together with others, is significant. Being truly present to one another, being open to mutual encounter with the other who comes as a stranger The responses needed are a word of hope, a listening heart, a compassionate presence, a healing glance So, let us continue to take the message from Nano’s story to have courage like she had to follow her mission, regardless of where that might lead. This is what it means to carry her lantern in the dark and treacherous times of the 21 st century. Let us all keep in our prayers those affected by the bushfires and still experiencing drought. Compassion is understanding and caring when someone is hurt or troubled, even if you don’t know them. It is wanting to help, even if all you can do is listen and say kind words. You forgive mistakes. You are a friend when someone needs a friend. Fr. John started teaching catechism to children in Ars and opened a school which he called ‘La Providence’. It soon became a place where orphans and abandoned children were brought to be looked after in SJV’s compassionate care, no child was ever turned away. "But a certain Samaritan, who was on a journey, came upon him; and when he saw him, he felt compassion (Luke 10:33)

On Tuesday this week classes from Prep to Year 2 along with some of our parents joined the Parish at 9:00am to celebrate Mass with Fr Prem. Our Year 2 students, who were involved in sharing actions during the reading of the Gospel, are to be congratulated for their enthusiastic and respectful manner demonstrated during this role. Our Year 1 students also did a wonderful job leading the actions with Mrs Horn for the entrance
hymn.
Spring Christmas Stall
A huge thank you to Jan McDiarmid and the SJV Sustainability Team for providing our school community the opportunity to purchase a range of beautiful homemade gifts. Your time and effort with preparing these gifts and running the stall are truly appreciated. A wonderful way to inject
more funds into the sustainability projects!

The Australian Reading Hour is an important annual campaign encouraging Australians of all ages to read for one hour. We know here at SJV that all our families understand the importance of daily reading. On Thursday 19 September, stop what you’re doing for one hour and pick up a book. Easier said than done in the busyness of life. Even if you can’t make the whole hour, see the time reading with your child as a
time to learn, escape and relax.

This week, overdue letters will be sent home for lost books during the term. If a book is not returned on the due date, library staff send home a reminder slip which goes into the library bag. Reimbursement is not required until the end of term as often the book is found within a few weeks. If your child has misplaced a book, please let the library know asap so they can continue borrowing. Storing books in the same place at home is key to your child being organised with their books every week. There will be holiday borrowing in week 10 for children to stock up with
reading for the holidays.
Thank you for your tremendous support of our dino-mite Book Fair two weeks ago, with $1500 of sales going to library resources! Books have now
finally arrived and been sent home with your child.

Supervision of students does not commence until 8.15am. Students should not be arriving at school prior to 8.15am unless they are attending Outside School Hours Care. Outside School Hours Care provides supervision from 7.00am. Parents are asked to use OSHC should their
