WHAT IS AUTOMATED SYSTEM?

For example:Traffic light system

Robot arms in car manufacturing industry

To control and monitor the temperatures of dangerous chemicals processes in such places as oil refineries

A system in which computers are used to control machines and equipment.

AUTOMATED SYSTEMS IN INDUSTRY Car Manufacturing factory use an

assembly line to put cars together Food processing in Factories Use of conveyor belt to move the

parts from one part of the factory to the next

Robots programmed to move slowly around factory

Industrial process control Plastics injection molding Machining and metal processing

OBJECTIVE OF OUR PROJECT

Use an algorithm to achieve efficiency and automation in industry. Intelligent conveyor belt system is one of those types of different view for automation in machines. In automation, conveyor belt system is widely used and most efficient and cost effective regarding to other automation systems.

ABOUT OUR PROJECT

Today in industries , an object is manufactured with little variation like color, size, etc.

For sorting them on color and size bases we use manual labor.

For this all industries will spend huge amount as wages and take a lot of time for processing.

By considering this we made a project that sort objects bases on SIZE passed through an automated conveyor belt.

PROJECT REQUIREMENTS

Conveyor belt Object detecting IR Module Microcontroller (atmega-32) Motor driver Geared DC motors Pulley Grove Electromagnet Software Proteus

AVR Studio 5.0 eXtreme Burner - AVR

Page 13: Thesis Presentation

Conveyor belt:

Durable and Reliable

Manufacturing Distribution

Higher volumes with smaller storage space and with less labor expense

Controlled by electrical motor

Page 14: Thesis Presentation

IR Module :

There is an obstacle > the green indicator light on the circuit board > count time

Detection distance: 2 ~ 60cm Detection angle: 35 ° 3mm screw holes for easy mounting Dimensions: 3.1 x 1.5cm

Page 15: Thesis Presentation

Microcontroller (atmega-32) :

32 input/output configurable pins 4ports X 8pins = 32pins 32 Kbytes Programmable flash memoryWith10,000 read/write cycles Can handle 3 external interrupts High frequency operation to ensure accurate length measurement

Motor driver:

Maximum Input Voltage 12 V

Peak Output Current (100 ms non repetitive) 1.2 A

Over temperature protection

Logical ”0” input voltage up to 1.5 v (high noise immunity)

Page 18: Thesis Presentation

Geared DC motors:

DC 12V 400rpm gear motor metal gear motor

Widely used in Machine tools, automatic transmission devices, currency count machine

Exchange positive electrode and negative electrode to change the direction of rotation

Large torque and small volume

Page 19: Thesis Presentation

Pulley:

A pulley is a wheel A pulley uses rope that goes around the pulley in its groove The rope attaches to objects Force is applied to the other end of the rope

Page 20: Thesis Presentation

Grove Electromagnet:

Working Voltage : DC 5V Working Current : 400mA   Load Weight : 1KG 1KG peak suction  Low standby current  Grove - Electromagnet can shuck 1KG weight and hold on

Page 21: Thesis Presentation

LIMITATIONS Variation of length Misalignment of the object Wear and tear of belt Heating of motor driver L293D Only metal object sorting

Costly for small scale industries

Sorting dependent of fixed length of object

Continuous usage leads to deterioration of components

ADVANTAGE

o Time saving and efficiento Increase in production capacity and qualityo Decrease in total manufacturing costo Less manual worko Easy analysiso Sorting based on sizeo Safetyo Lower costs in the long run

Page 24: Thesis Presentation

FUTURE ENHANCEMENT Robotic Arms can be used instead of Electro-magnet Non-metallic object can be sorted using robotic arms

Any specific color object can be sorted using color sensors Can be used to sort only particular objects from a group

Can be used in industrial level to sort materials according to their temperature by using temperature sensor

Page 25: Thesis Presentation

APPLICATIONS

Object detection Size detection Sorting Material Testing Medical equipment

Page 26: Thesis Presentation

CONCLUSION Existing sorting system are more time consuming and less efficient

Our project of automated object sorting can be more updated which can make average industrial value

Efficiency can be increased by further enhancements in this project

We now have very few people working in factories. This means that factories can be designed around the automated systems, not the humans
