From the Desk of Father Ed:
Dear Parishioners, This weekend we celebrate the Third Sunday of Advent. Our third candle is lit from the Advent Wreath. The color of the third candle is rose signifying joy at the closeness of Christmas. We have been waiting for three weeks in the Season of Advent and now the Lord’s coming to us again at Christmas is close at hand. In our Gospel this weekend St. John the Baptist was also waiting for the Messiah. John wanted to know if Jesus was the One that all the Jewish people were waiting for, that is, the messiah, the anointed one. John had been arrested by King Herod and so from his prison cell he sent his disciples to ask Jesus this question, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?” Jesus told John’s disciples of the many miracles that He performed, healing the blind, the deaf, the lame, lepers, and He raised people from the dead. They were all signs that the ancient prophecies written about the coming messiah were being fulfilled in Jesus. As we celebrate the Third Sunday of Advent we are reminded that the celebration of Christmas is close and our Lord wishes to come to us with His grace in a new and loving way. This Sunday’s Gospel reminds us that like St. John the Baptist we don’t have to look any further because Jesus is the Messiah, He is our Lord and God. It is through Him and with Him and in Him that we find the source and summit of all our joy. Come Lord Jesus! Our Lady Queen of Peace, pray for us, Father Ed, Administrator
Parish Life: This past weekend our parish youth group, “Catholic Teens” at their Sunday meeting decorated Gingerbread Houses. The houses were prepared and baked along with all the candy and icing trimmings by our parishioners Tammy & Howard Drake and family. A special thanks from our teens and myself to Tammy & Howard and family for a fun evening. A special thanks to the Knights of Columbus for supporting our parish food pantry and for their donation of winter jackets for children in need. We have over 70 families or individuals that our food pantry services. Thanks to the members of the Men’s and Women’s Club for helping decorate our parish for Christmas. Thanks to Robert and Beverly from “Holiday Tree Farm” for donating the beautiful trees for our Sanctuary. Thanks to the members of our Parish Outreach for organizing and distributing the gifts from our giving tree. And special thanks to all our parishioners that participated in the giving tree by buying gifts for those in need, and for donating food to our food pantry. Once again our evening of 24 hours of continuous Adoration was very successful. We had over 50 people participate throughout the 24 hours by coming to visit our Lord in prayer...What a great blessing for our parish! I want to especially thank our members of the parish Evangelization Team for organizing the event...We hope to have another evening of 24-hour Adoration on the First Friday of Lent.
This week’s bulletin contains a profit and loss statement for the parish for the year end of June 30, 2016. It is an overview of the parish’s finances. As you can see from the figures we are not in the red as we were in the previous year, however we only showed a profit of little over a $1,000. I want to personally thank you for your financial support of the parish and I encourage you to continue to be generous and help your church. Please continue to help us not only to pay the bills but also to help the parish grow and thrive now and in the future.
