We had some interesting weather. An ice storm just before Christmas left us powerless for 2&1/2 days with the temp. getting down to 4C (38F) in the house. Then we received a deep freeze. Daytime temps of -20C (-5F) with -30C (-25F) with the wind chill. Fortunately, I was in Mexico where the temps were 33C (90F). DEAR FELLOW 1929 BUICK OWNERS

Well, winter is here in NA and 29 Buicks are in their cocoons until Spring.

I’m a bit late with this issue having just returned from Brazil visiting my daughter and grandchildren. Nice and warm there, too.

Wow, our Post Office just raised postage rates over 33% starting in March. I can hold mailed NEWS-LETTER prices this year but think they will have to go up to next year. Switch to email and save a price increase.

members at the Marina Port Cafe! We had cars from all ages, the oldest being my 29-58. My whole family

dressed period costume which madeit even more spectacular !”

move the crank enough to get a gap of approx. 8mm between bottom of con rod and crank on #2.I covered the the crank with thick gasket paper and secured with cable tie. Then I inserted the wooden block previously fabricated into cylinder #2, marked it carefully to ensure it would not drop more than 5mm and gave it gentle persuasion with a dead blow hammer. Piston dropped surprisingly easily – so a added lots of Plus Gas and left it overnight.Today, I could move piston #2 up and down by hand from under the car - it was tough going when the piston got towards the top of the block. So I cleaned the top of the bore with emery cloth and coated the cylinder lining with oil - then managed to gently knock the piston up out the top of the blockAs always with old cars, two steps forwards, one step back. I discover that on cylinder #1 the white metal in the cap has significant damage/hole (see pic – triangular hole).

Tim Wilkinson’s Rod Cap w/triangle hole

I had a chat with a white metal specialist this morn-ing, emailing him the image of the cap. He said he wouldn’t bother replacing white metal. Interestingly he added that a lot of cars that age would never have had perfect white metal linings when new, they were often pitted/holed. He sent me some im-ages of what looked like shocking badly damaged linings that were still running fine in engines. The piston rings on #2 are badly stuck in the pistonI’ve managed to gently tap and get parts of the rings “out”, but I’m doubtful if they will “pop” back out, even with a massive splash of penetrating oil – we’ll see next weekend. So, with a set of gaskets from Al Lambert and a couple of bits from Bob's, I will get it back together and see if I can get it running - very exciting !”

GARY BLESI (26 & 27) writes: “I purchased a 29-27 in 1988 with the intention of restoring it. I spent the next few years gathering parts from all over the USA, inc. some NOS parts. I spent many days in auto scrap yards pulling parts off 29 Buicks and

from other 29 GMC cars which also fit 29 Buicks. I even picked up a parts car and in 1991 bought a 26 and decided I’d restore the Coupe, not the Sedan.

29-26 - This is what I started with. I received fenders and hood. I used a radiator from one of my parts cars. It’s ber-

ing rebuilt, now.

regulars and caught up with the past year’s news. We had good weather and sales from Tues. PM through noon Thurs. Then the skies let loose. I understand there was 9” of rain on Thurs. and Fri.

WHAT DID THEY SELL FOR

29-44 was listed for $49,950 OBO on eBay. Didn’t sell. Reduced to $39,950 OBO (6 offers) but obvi-ously not high enough as then re-listed back at $49,950 OBO (3 offers) (go figure ?).

29-27 sold for $11,729 in spirited bidding (42 bids).

29-41 in Canada, offered for sale at $35K or trade for 12 ton float and truck on Kijiji Canada.

Gary Blesi (26&27) found 2 different Speedo Driven Gear castings. Most common is one on left without shoulder. The shoulder would have given cable more support. Casting # is the same. Anyone have an idea when the unit with the shoulder was used ?

A 29-49X in India. Recently received photos of a 29 -49X in India. Car was totally restored as these pics

show. Interesting - the car has a Flint production plate vs Canadian when there would have been pref-erential Commonwealth tariffs available.
